Elora’s face was a partial smile and a measured scowl she was not happy the way the assignment had come down, now she was not going to be well liked by the crew. In the end though she had a job to do. Her black hair was pulled back into a tight bun, her command uniform fight tight, leaving little to one imagination around her fitness level. She hand never gotten out of the pro athlete mindset and was constantly working out and improving herself.

Stepping off the transporter pad she looked around to see if anyone other than the transporter operator was her to great her.

The one to greet her was her only immediate superior officer, the commanding officer himself. Shock stood with his hands clasped behind his back, his back straight, and waited while Elora Myles energized aboard. She had not been his choice, indeed, Starfleet had appointed him. He had thought it was an odd, but looking at Myles’s records, she seemed a logical choice. Despite that, he had some curious thoughts about this whole situations.

Once she stepped off the pad, he raised his right hand in the traditional Vulcan V-shaped salute.

“Peace and long life, commander. It is agreeable to meet you. I am Shock, commanding officer aboard this ship. Welcome aboard.”

“Peace and long life, Captian Shock. Elora Myles, you new Executive Officer.” She said her face curing into a sort of smile. “It is a pleasure to be here.

She looked at him. “You have a copy of my transfer orders? “

“Yes,” he said bluntly, as he made a gesture inviting her to follow him out of the transporter room. “It was unusual. It shall not be held against you, but I was curious to see it. I look forward to collaborating with you.”

Once they left the transporter room, “Where do you wish to go first?”

Elora fell in next to him, she was used to being inserted in against peoples will, her SRU time had been like that the dumped her in command of a team that had been together for a long time having just lost their Lieutenant. “We’ll Sir I guess I would like to talk about your expectations and then get to work. The I would like a tour of the containment area and the the ARU. ” he stated.

To Shock, Elora Myles seemed like she wanted to prove herself. He was curious to what thoughts and feelings she brought into this position. The context of her appointment – by passing the commanding officer – was as unorthodox to him as it would be to her. That she did not ask to find her cabin and get herself settled also raised an internal eyebrow. She was an interesting character, Shock thought, and she would make a fascinating and curious first officer indeed.

“My expectations?” Shock asked, his intonation rising slightly. He tasted the words in his mouth. Elora Myles was a formidable character, right to the point, but not a sociable type. There was something un-human-like about her – culturally speaking only. “Relationships take time to build. It will take time for us to find the right balance, find the right equilibrium of our strengths, mediating each our weaknesses. That is what I expect. Otherwise, I trust you will act as honourably and loyally as your rank and experience would indicate. What thoughts do you have about it? What do you expect, or even, wish of me?”

He began leading her away from the transporter room. They were heading to the containment area, but Shock decided to take the “slow route”, as to allow for more conversation on the way there – but also for Elora to familiarize herself with the ship infrastructure.

Elora did not look at the Captain as they walked, she wanted to get oriented. She had spent the past week reviewing the layout, though the containment area was redacted so she had not been able to commit that to memory. “I just want direct, be direct please it prefer to not have to guess what you are asking me to do. ” somehow she did not think that would be a problem but it was her expectation. She noted the slower route to containment. She looked around as they walked but she did not speak. She had nothing to say at the moment.

Shock nodded. “Then I ask for reciprocity: can you be direct with me, as well, in private, while supporting my decisions outwardly?”

Elora gave a small nod. “I can do that Sir, ” she responded as they walked down the halls of the ship. “Why the Leviathan for you Sir, were you assigned or did you choose it?”

Shock thought for a second, analysing how to approach the question. He had himself not been sure exactly how he has been assigned there, only that he had been. He decided to give Elora the context.

“I was assigned,” he said. “Before my assignment, I had not known of this particular ship. I knew such existed. The Leviathan had had an unstable period of several shifts of commanding and executive officers in a short period of time. When the last intended commanding officer and chief of operations, some four months ago, dissolved en route to the Leviathan in a curious and unknown phenomenon, Starfleet Command assigned me here and briefed me sufficiently for me to take on the reins of command. However, we still do not know how and what caused the dissolution of the intendees who failed to arrive.”

He turned to his executive officer.

“And as for you? Did you choose or were you chosen? Or perhaps, both?”

She looked at him sizing up how to answer, she had been assigned so that was not a lie. “I was assigned, though I’m not entirely sure how I fit into the equation that is the Leviathan yet. ” she said with a small wink and laugh. Things were getting a little heavy after all this was her new team even if it was only for this mission.

“Neither am I,” Shock replied, having promised her directness. He caught up with her joke, but decided not to say more on that.
