Finn decided it was time to start making his rounds getting to know the ship’s personnel. The best place to start being with the commanding officer of the marines they were carrying around. He felt decently ready for this meeting after the briefing he had received from his own CO and made his way up to deck 29. Also, while he wasn’t a marine himself, he had come up through security on the Belle Meade and figured they would have some common ground there. Finding his way to the Marine Headquarters he stepped inside and looked around for the Colonel’s office.Once he found the office, he stepped up and thumbed the chime to announce himself and waited to be acknowledged.

A lound WOFF came from inside, just a single bark.
Hammond looked up from his work and over at Kilo, “Good girl, go lay down” Kilo looked at the Colonel licked her lips then went and laid down on her bed. “Come!” he called out two the door. The door slid open. “Ah Lieutenant Commander Grady” he said said. “I was curious as to when you would grace me with your presence, please come in have a seat” he offered, he recognized him from his file, he reviewed all senior personal that came on board. Kilo’s eyes bore holes into the man but she did not move from her bed.

Commander 7th Marine Expeditionary Unit “Iron Valkyries” (CAG)Finn gave the dog a wary side-eye as he entered. There had been tons of dogs around the stables back home but none of them had quite the same intensity he was getting from this one. None of them had been working dogs and, to be honest, many of them had been dumber than a sack of rocks. He moved over to take the seat offered by the Colonel.
“Thank you, sir. Apologies for the delay, the Captain and I were getting acquainted over some stacks of paperwork,” he grinned at the other officer and then chanced a glance back over his shoulder at the dog and offered her a tentative smile as well.

Kilo licked her lips and was staring two small holes into the mans head. She always found new people interesting but knew better than to engage with out an ok from the Colonel.
“Well that is fine, I have a stack of it myself. How can the 7th help you Lieutenant Commander?” he asked pouring some coffee from his press.. “Coffee?” he asked, a smile formed on his face, It’s actual coffee a friend of mine sends me a batch from time to time.

Commander 7th Marine Expeditionary Unit “Iron Valkyries” (CAG)Finn nodded with a smile, “Thank you, sir. There is nothing like a fresh pressed cup of coffee. It was a morning ritual with my mama back on the farm with her French press. I’ll have to keep in mind where the good stuff is here on the ship.”
He breathed in the comforting scent of the dark liquid and was taken back to some of those memories growing up: some kind of pastry baking, bacon or sausage frying up in a pan and always coffee in the chill morning before heading out to the stables.
He returned his attention to the Colonel, “I guess I’m more interested in making sure I understand how we all work together. On the Belle Meade, where I served before this, we didn’t have any marines on board so, while I get the general concept, I assume there are some subtleties that occur in ‘real life’.”

Colonel Hammond smiled as he pushed the cup over to Grady and then began to pour his own. “Well, Captain runs her ship, I run my Marines.” he said plainly. “All Marine operations flow through me, though there is some crossover, for example a few of your medical personnel are cross training with the SAR teams to help create a mobile medical, Normally we would have our own flight surgeons and we have a few but mostly you all handle the medical checks. Ship security is handled by your teams, but if boarding were to occurs you would have 500 Marines ready to defend the ship.” he said with a grin. “Woe to anyone who tries to board the Chimera”

Commander 7th Marine Expeditionary Unit “Iron Valkyries” (CAG)Finn accepted the cup and inhaled deeply before taking a sip of the dark liquid. He allowed himself a deep sigh. “Yep, that’s the stuff right there!”
He smiled back at the Colonel and relaxed back in the chair holding the warm cup in both his hands while he considered the explanation. “That makes good sense and I imagine you and the Captain have it all down to a smooth process. I am glad there are ways to have some crossover, its good for our officers to see the other side of things and be a cohesive Starfleet front.”
Taking another sip of the coffee he gave a more sly grin, “A small part of me would love to see someone try to board. We could play back the video monitors of their faces when they came around the corner and saw all that green and yellow staring back at them. Hope their pants are waterproof or we might have a little mess to clean up.”

He could see the small curl of a smirk on the corner of his mouth. “Might not be a bad exercise to run some drills with the two response teams, make sure we are communicating effectively” he noted. “As long as chain of command is clear for the given mission we should not have much trouble. The Chimera’s fleet officers are top notch” he said pulling on his coffee.
Kilo’s eyes had not really left Grady since he entered the room. She was watching him like he was a new curiosity, or , or it could be like he was a piece of meat, it was hard to be sure.”

“I like the idea of some joint drills. Maybe some joint mingling sessions as well. While we are separate parts of any mission, we are all part of the bigger picture and I think its important that we can all work together efficiently and effectively but also get to know each other to remove the mystery,” he considered what that would look like. “‘Course this is a big ole beast of a ship so I don’t expect we will get to know every single person. The guys and gals in green should just be like any other officer here, inside the respective chains of command of course.”
He took another sip of his own coffee, his neck itching faintly as Kilo’s eyes bore into him. He wondered if it would be worth trying to make ‘friends’ with her.
