There was no way to test her theory but the Atlantis could use their scanners to do some deeper ground penetrating scans. This type of scan was not typically done for away teams since there was more to worry about on an away mission coming at you at ground level instead of coming at you from 100 kilometers below the surface. =/\= Atlantis Bridge, do a deep ground penetrating scan of the surface around the bunker.=/\=. Kelly didn’t want Jenn to be right based on the idea of thousands of sleeping insects below her feet however even extinct volcanos had heat far below the surface. It would be a natural incubator is her XO’s theory was correct.

Having come from a world of ice and insects being rather rare and insignificant the kind of critters he was more familiar with was what he found on other worlds. He really had given them little thought. “Insects can be dormant for long periods can they not?” he asked. “Or even in an extended pupae stage where they await certain conditions before emerging?” That, he thought, was about the limit of his biology of insects and that he learned from colleagues talking of butterflies and the likes that he had only seen in simulations.

“We’re coming along, Captain!” Trainor called out from the controls. He had some interesting encounters from his time lost in space, but giant insects would have made his skin crawl. If the theory was correct and they were to wake up, the team would be done for.

For now, it appeared that his Starfleet training in breaking encryptions was paying off, though the runabout’s computers were doing most of the work.

“Captain, we’re not going to tell any of the locals about the Federation’s doing are we?” Tenzing asked. “The Darkness appears to be POed as is, and I don’t want to see what happens when we increase that by 10 fold.”

“Telling them would not be my first choice,” Kelly replied to Tenzig as she waited to see what the deep-ground scans of the planet by the Altantis’ sensors would show along with any information they might have learned from the fleet of shuttles trying to hack the alien computer.

OOC: I;m not sure what you maybe looking for, its a pretty normal planet. There isn’t anything odd.

From the other room O’Farrell was listening. “Taking responsibility would be a poor choice. I’m no saying if we are ta deny it, but there are too many unknowns. We are postulatin’ that the wave did this, but we don’a know for sure. We don’a know what they were doin’ here that might have altered the effect or what spacial and quantum anomalies it encountered that might have changed the effect of the wave. And even more dangerous,” Cara looked at them all through the glass, “The darkness might see what happened ta them as divine intervention. We say we are responsible and we could be lookin’ at bein’ eaten alive as heretics.”

“Responsibility implies intent,” Jen added. “In no way from my recall was this even an experiment that went wrong. As much as Starfleet wants to right wrongs, right now we are making suppositions. We can’t right what we don’t even know the extent of the problem. Even if it is fixable now.” He glanced to O’Farrell and Tenzing. “I don’t relish being eaten either.”

OOC: There have been tons of things I’ve had to take responsibility for that I never intended. In fact, that’s most of the things I’ve had to take responsibility for.
OOC: True! But perhaps not in the eyes of our good XO :)

That being said the computer on the runabout, broke through both the computer encryption and the computer language. The two systems were interacting with each other, confusingly with the Federation officers still having no understanding of the language that the computer was originally programmed in. They now had all the functionality of the designers of the system. They also had the history of the system, what they did not have was a translation of the logs.

There was a beep from one of the crew working on the computer encryptions. “What do we have?” he asked.

The last event ordered was the mixing of the dark matter and the biomemetic gel. The ratio was recorded (but not relevant to the explanation) At that point a micro rift where a “wave” radiated from interacting with the matter/gel mixture and created an even larger wave and an even larger rift. The data then seemed to stop suddenly.

OOC: I’ll assume that we’re not able to read just the logs but that the rest would include imagery?

OOC: The key point is that here is no language comprehension so logs are just gibberish, if someone could figure out which the logs were. The pictures would exist if you could figure out where to look. It would be very similar to opening a computer and checking each file one at a time for the appropriate pictures.

“Um from what I can tell the last entry in the computer logs shows that when the dark matter and biometric gel were combined a micro rift occurred which radiated into an energy wave that kept growing and growing until,” Lexi’s voice got quiet as she struggled to talk and understand what the data said, “nothing. The data seems to have stopped.”

Jen held up his hand. “Remind me .. what is dark matter and biometric gel to do with one another?” he asked. “Besides a big boom.” Was that how the genesis project went? Mix these two compounds and then .. boom? “When did this occur? Can we correlate time stamps?”

Technically the Genesis project was classified and certainly the elements that caused a planet destroying, star creating device was very much something Star-Fleet had no interest in sharing. The time stamps of the two events were very closely aligned, the time stamp on the alien computer was easy enough to translate, but harder to match specifically as the reference points used by this race and Star-Fleet were not matched. They could scroll backwards and use math to figure it out and the results were so close to defy the possibility of not being identical.

While Jen waited for an analysis to come he perused the consoles and the imagery that was there which was their language. A Rosetta stone of sorts would have been nice but so be it. Time may tell. What does one get when one crosses .. that old joke came to mind. It seemed to be more of a Terran bit of humor that formed these jokes; Andorians didn’t have such topics. They could too easily come to blows if it hit too close to home or was perceived to have. But what if they were trying to do something else other than a wormhole? What if it was, as some would call it, a kind of Frankenstein experiment? That didn’t end well, according to the Earth fable. Life of sorts was created but not accepted. What may this have done? What biometric gel did they use? Their own?

OOC: There was no connection with biomimetic gel and dark matter to anything related to the Genesis wave/device. The Genesis device (classified) amongst other things used proto-matter. Presumably to cause the life generating wave.

On this side of the galaxy - whoever here used dark matter to open a micro worm hole. The theory here would have been the non-reactive gravity wave dark matter creates. Why they used biomimetic gel was unknown as that substance was not known to have a use beyond genetic research and modification. There could have been another objective to the research that was not micro worm holes and the worm hole was actually a side effect.

Dark matter could have gravitational lensing effects and force the biomimetic gel to cause a temporal change to development.

“Could the dark matter have caused some kind of exothermic reaction on the biometric gel? Maybe it has nothing directly to do with the Genesis wave. The Genesis wave did cause a temporal distortion though right,” Kelly wore a slightly perplexing expression. It had been a lot of years since she studied this at the academy. “Lt. Spock…he died there but when they came back Spock was a child that was going through some rapid growth. Anyone else remember any of this,” she looked at her crew.

OOC: Lieutenant Spock. He probably was the oldest Captain in Star-Fleet.

IC: It seems likely we had two experiments that had an integrated reaction and two separate effects on the two ends. The integrated reaction was the wormhole and on the Federation side was the regeneration of a whole world and on this side, with the rapid evolution of a planet full of a race.
