Once he had programed a typical Ferengi home and hid the projector that would show Frax’s ‘moogie’ underneath a cushion, Rado sat down and thought about his recent promotion. Chief of Security. Was he even ready for such a responsibility? How would he handle it? What did the new captain even see in him? Did Nightroad read the essay he had written at the academy? He prayed to the Prophets for some answers yet felt nothing.

His crisis of faith was interrupted by the holodeck doors opening up.

Sickbay

Dr. Royce administered a mild stimulant to her Ferengi patient, Frax. After a delay of about 15 seconds he started to come around. He kept mumbling, but the only thing she could make out was “Moogie”, whom she assumed was his mother or grandmother. He was not fully awake and aware of his surroundings, both for his own protection until she determined the source of his hypertension and also he would be more likely to talk freely. Speaking softly to him “Frax, Im going to take you home, would you like to see your Moogie?” He mumble something in Ferengi, but judging from his bio signs he wanted to go. She helped him up and supported and guided him out of sickbay and to the holodeck.
Holodeck
As the holodeck doors swished open, Frax took in his surroundings and again began mumbling, excitedly obviously pleasantly surprised. She saw Rado Gainn in the corner, but she wasn’t certain he was visible to Frax. She shot Gainn a questioning look.

Upon noticing the arrival of Ensign Royce and their Ferengi friend, Rado activated the ‘moogie’ projector from his new PADD and readied the potential responses. Once he had that arranged, he hurriedly gestured for Ensign Royce to join him in the corner.

Frax looked around as he entered the holodeck, slightly discombobulated. As he looked around, he wondered whether the whole affair had been a dream, and that he had woken back up on Ferenginar.

“Moogie?” he asked, quietly, into the darkness.

OOC: Just a gentle reminder that you should let other role players act out their characters, including NEs, unless they have said otherwise. Frax is one of the Non-Player Characters that I have been using as part of the plot line.

Rado pressed a button on his PADD, turning on the projection of Frax’s Moogie.

OOC: My sincerest apologies. I didn’t realize that I was doing that. My bad.

Dr. Royce saw Rado in the corner and as soon as she was satisfied Frax would be stable, she went over and stood next to him. She adjusted the settings on her PADD to be able to monitor Frax from a distance. She then spoke to Rado in a whisper, “have you enabled a force field so that Frax cannot see or hear us? And just for your information, with the medications on board Frax, he probably won’t remember this.”.

“Well, I suppose that, uh, makes things easier.” Rado said quietly. “As for the force field, I, uh, made one. But’s a little…uh…” He paused, looking for the right word. What words can adequately describe a holodeck force field that looks like it was constructed by a six-year-old with shaky hands?

He settled on a close enough word. “It’s, uh, a little rudimentary.”

“Moooooogieeeee?” Frax slurred, clearly still groggy.

Realizing he should get the projection up and running, Rado activated the force field around him and Royce. Once the force field covered them, Rado pressed buttons to that would make the projection responses to Frax fairly automatic.

“Hello, Frax,” The projection said, “How are you, my child?”

“Mooogiiiieeeeeee!” an excited Frax exclaimed, before he trotted over to the hologram at a quick pace. “Such a bad dream!” he said, before breaking down into tears. “There were these small robots, that attacked the ship we were salvaging. Then the Federation appeared, and tortured me; those evil hewmons.

Rado was torn. On one hand, they hadn’t actually tortured Frax, but by the looks of it, Lt. Cmdr. McClearly was about to. But on the other hand, he knew he shouldn’t defend what happened. He especially knew he shouldn’t defend it via Frax’s “Moogie”.

Also, he was a Bajoran, not human. Were…were his nose ridges not prominent enough?

“I am so sorry that,” The projection responded, “But you are safe now. Just relax. They won’t hurt you anymore.”

Royce continued to monitor Frax, noting a slight, but expected rise in blood pressure when he began to cry. Noticing Rado’s expression of self doubt, she spoke quietly to him, “He’s stable and doing well, but it would be a good idea to keep it as direct and brief as possible. Trust me you will be the first to know if he shows signs of too much stress.”.
