Cherp’Eng rematerialised on the transporter padd in the main transporter room of the Manhattan. The transport vessel that brought him to rendezvous with the Manhattan wasn’t overly comfortable for him with his long limbs, but he persevered and it had only been a couple of days and he wasn’t sitting in the seats for the whole trip. Some of it was spent sleeping and all of it was spent caring for the egg that was his offspring currently secured in its container in his right hand. Over his left shoulder was a duffel bag and his other belongings would be over shortly. He stepped off the padd and let his transfer orders be scanned.

“Lieutenant Cherp’Eng, Chief Science Officer, newly appointed,” he said, then, looking at his egg, added with a smile, “and my plus one.”

“Welcome to the Manhattan,” the transporter operator said, giving the directions to the CSO’s quarters, “Your other belongings will be taken to your quarters, Lieutenant.”

“Thank you, ensign,” Cherp’Eng replied, before exiting the transporter room and heading down the corridor to the turbolift that would take him to the deck on which his his quarters were located. He got stares, curious stares, which he wasn’t bothered by. He knew it was because his people were quite rare in Starfleet, he knew them all, and he could count the number of them on both hands and still have 2 digits left over.

Reaching the turbolift door, he reached out and tapped the button, calling it to his current deck. When it opened, an officer was inside already.

“Hello,” Cherp’Eng said, “I’m Cherp’Eng, the new CSO, and this is my plus one.” He nodded to his egg still in its incubation container.

OOC: OK who’s going to step up to the plate and sign up to be a meaningful adult in the little tyke’s life? It may involve watching the egg and controlling any instincts to cook it up and serve it for a meal.
That would be a unique selling point to get people back to the Manhattan, Terry … watch over the little birdbrain and make sure he/she doesn’t mistake the warpcore as a toy.

The officer, a Trill Ensign, dressed in the Science uniform looked up at Cherp’Eng.

“Oh, Chief Cherp’Eng,” the Trill replied, “welcome to the Manhattan, I’m Jaiden Millis, Science Officer. I heard you were coming. An Avisarite? Tinear Millis, a prior host served as part of the team that made first contact with your people. I’m overjoyed that I’ll get to work with you.” The Ensign’s eyes fell on the egg in its incubation contained held by Cherp’Eng. Oh, and you’ve got an egg with you? Tinear said that raising your young is a social affair, with all adults in your flock taking responsibility for it. How are you going to … oh wait, can I help with it? I’ve had hosts who’ve been mothers three times and fathers twice, so I know the basics.”

Cherp’Eng smiled, “hello Ensign. I’m pleased to meet you. Your former host was correct, it is a social affair amongst my people, and if you think you’d be up for it, I’d appreciate you looking after my egg when I’m on bridge or away team duty.”

“Thank you,” Jaiden said, “may I take your egg off your hands now, Lieutenant?”

“Yes, thanks Ensign,” Cherp’Eng said, “be careful, even in the incubation holder, my egg is fragile.”

The incubation device was handed over, and Jaiden held it as though it was containing an incredibly valuable and rare item … which of course, to Cherp’Eng’s eyes, it was.
