The excited Zaharan arrived wearing a long skirt made of natural fibres and a loose top. Her hair was pulled back in a style that seemed popular down below and she was still amused at the brown colour, having had green hair all her life. She shifted the satchel on her shoulder that carried a few essentials that would not turn any heads if seen in public (like a notepad and a writing implement). She had a tricorder on person but it was tucked in a large inner pocket of the oversized jacket she wore. She wouldn’t bring it out unless it made sense to.

She smiled at the transporter operator and waited for the others. Was she being an overeager ensign? Probably, but she wasn’t about to apologize for that.

~Ensign Ka’Sora

The door slid open and what was the new look for the CO came in. He smiled at Ka’Sora and said “Beat me here? I must be slipping.” and he chuckled. He carried a similar satchel to hers, as seemed to be the norm for the people below them, and he had his communicator hidden inside his shirt where he could access it with a tap. He wore calf-length boots made of leather and loose pants and a loose light coat. In the small of his back was a tricorders that would begin a continuous low-frequency scan once they arrived planetside. And tightly secured under a broad leather bracer-like arm cuff (also seeming to be the fashion of the culture below) was a hold-out phaser. “So… you ready for this Ensign?” he asked, his excitement noticable.

Cochrane, CO

“I think so!” Ka’Sora said, nodding her head. “I’ve never had this opportunity and these people could very well provide clues to how my people might have reacted to the influx of new knowledge. No matter what, it’ll be fascinating and important to my research.”

Bjarke walked through the door, ducking to avoid hitting his head again. He was wearing similar clothing to the captain, his gear and reflection save the small hunting knife he always carried, hidden under his tunic.

“Are you sure about this captain?” He asked looking g around at everyone else realizing he stood out considerably.

Lieutenant Bjarke Viktorsson
Diplomatic Attaché

“You are above average in stature for certain, Lieutenant.” Cochrane said with a chuckle. “But not outside of the physiological standards we have gleaned.”

Cochrane, CO

Bjarke had never met a Vulcan his size let alone one that was as wide, if the captain felt like it was ok he would go on his good wisdom.
“I just hope I can keep up with you all,” Ka’Sora said. She turned her gaze on Cochrane. “I will let you know if I’m struggling, but the gravity is even higher down there, which for all of you might just be a bit more tiring, but for me could be quite a challenge. I don’t want to cause issues for the team, so if it becomes too much of a problem, I probably should return to the ship.”

~Ensign Ka’Sora

He looked at Ka’Sora she seemed like she was strong enough to handle it but he was not sure what the difference was for her. He would help in whatever way he could.

Lieutenant Bjarke Viktorsson
Diplomatic Attaché

Sebastian stepped into the transporter room, similarly dressed like Cochrane and Viktorsson, all tech gear hidden carefully in the folds of the outfit.

He stepped over to Ka’Sora and held out his hand. In it was a piece of chocolate and a small cup of peanut butter. “Here. This is just a sample, but it should give a good taste of what your in for when we get back. Plus, it’ll give little extra boost of energy you might need with the higher gravity down below.”

Ka’Sora accepted the cup but was a bit hesitant. She really appreciated the thought behind the gesture, but eating an unfamiliar item right before an away mission seemed a bit risky. What is she reacted unexpectedly?” It was probably fine, but could she take that risk? Still, standing there holding it was not useful either and she didn’t want it in hand when they beamed down.

He nodded to the Captain and reported, “All ready, sir.”

Lt. Cmdr. Sebastian d’Aramis
CIO-USS Manhattan

The Zaharan at least popped the piece of chocolate into her mouth, knowing it was okay since she’d had it before. She felt a small amount of heat on her cheeks as she tried to figure out what to do with this slightly awkward situation she found herself in.

~Ensign Ka’Sora

Sebastian watched Ka’Sora’s hesitation and reacted. Taking the cup from her and placing it on the transporter console, he added, “You are soooo right. We’ll have that treat when we get back. Then, you’ll experience pure . . .happiness.” He finished with a wink and a smile.

Ka’Sora flashed him a smile and nodded. There was time for that later.

Eilah stepped into the transporter room with a small smile. “All good to go on my end,” he said as he took his position.

~ Fayth, COS

“All right. Places people. Make sure your translators are active and hidden.” Cochrane said. He stepped up on the pad and waited for the others to join him.

Cochrane, CO
Bjarke smiled he was ready and excited for the mission, he still wondered about his size, soon the transporter chief energized and they were on there way.

Lieutenant Bjarke Viktorsson
Diplomatic Attaché

Ka’Sora double-checked everything, shifted her satchel securely on her shoulder and stepped up onto the transporter. She was as ready as she’d ever be!

~Ensign Ka’Sora

The transporter energized with its characteristic whine and soon the away team found themselves in a field of tall grass on the outskirts of a city. A soft breeze brushed their skin as they got their bearings - the air cool but not cold. A dirt road passed within sight of where the team stood, though it seemed at the moment to be empty.

Cochrane tapped his communicator through his clothes and said =/\= Away Team to Manhattan. We are planetside. Switching comms to send only. If you need us, send a soft static burst. Cocrane out.” He looked at his team and said ” Everyone ready? Let’s start walking.” and he made his way to the road.

Cochrane, CO

As soon as he materialized, Sebastian’s eyes were searching the landscape. The transporter chief assured the team there were no natives near the beam down sight. Still, the Intel officer did so out of habit.

As he fell into step alongside Cochrane, he reported, “All clear, sir.”

Lt. Cmdr. Sebastian d’Aramis
CIO-USS Manhattan

Looking around the landscape Bjarke tried to take it in without being to obvious, he started making mental notes about what he saw.

Lieutenant Bjarke Viktorsson
Diplomatic Attaché

It was not only her first away mission but one where they had to be exceedingly careful. Ka’Sora took a deep breath as she absorbed her surroundings. She didn’t want to say anything just yet and followed along, letting her unique viewpoint as a Zaharan and expertise as a sociologist frame what she was seeing. Even the ecology of a place was important as it told you about the conditions people were dealign with and that informed the solutions they built into their society.

~Ensign Ka’Sora

Able felt his arms to ensure everything rematerialized then went to his tricorder to see what he could figure out.

Nightroad, Engineer

Once everyone was settled, Cochrane moved the party to the nearby road and started walking towards the town. As they moved, his eyes took in their surroundings: the weather, geography, plant and animal life, and all the rest. But he was especially conscious to be on the lookout for natives.

Cochrane, CO

Bjarke was feeling self conscious now, it was clear he was very tall compared to everyone else. It was not like him to slouch, but he was concerned it would cause some questions they did not want to answer. He had to think, maybe a genetic defect?

Lieutenant Bjarke Viktorsson
Diplomatic Attaché

Seth kept tapping his machine waiting for a reply.

Nightroad, Engineer
(OOC: So sorry! I should be much more regular with replies going forward.)

The road wound on for a while, still no natives in sight, as the party got closer and closer to the town. After a few minutes of travel, those looking were able to spot movement - maybe someone out for a stroll? It certainly didn’t appear big enough to be a vehicle.

Gamemaster Amdirgol
GMT

With her exceptional hearing, smell, and eyesight, Ka’Sora fixed her gaze in the direction of the movement. She should be able to quickly tell if it was a living creature or not.

~Ensign Ka’Sora

Cochrane noticed the Engin’s attention and slowed his walk slightly. “Remember… mirror body language and gestures. A friendly wave may not mean the same to them as it does to us.” he said softly to the group.

Cochrane, CO

“Aye,” Seth replied as he continued to look around to take in all the surroundings. He still felt a little nervous.

Nightroad, Engineer

Sebastian raised a hand to his brow, shielding his eyes from the sunlight, hoping to get a clearer look at who was approaching. . . .

Ruki had been there all along, he was just incredibly sneaky and silent that the rest of the members of the party may be excused for thinking he’s only just suddenly appeared. He subconsciously moved in front of the CO … in case whoever was coming was not friendly, the CO would not go down, like Noel.

Ruki Jowa - COS - USS Manhattan

As the figure got closer, it became clear that it was in fact a single person, in what the crew had identified as casual wear. They raised their chin slightly, continuing to walk towards the away team. “Hello.”

Gamemaster Amdirgol

Ruki raised his chin slightly in response. He didn’t say or do anything else.

Ruki Jowa - COS - USS Manhattan

Bjarke figured he would let someone else do the initial contact, he was more of a negotiator than someone who made fake idle conversation. He smiled though

Lieutenant Bjarke Viktorsson
Diplomatic Attaché

Sebastian lowered his hand as the figure approached. He nodded in acknowledgement to the newcomer but said nothing in return.

Lt. Cmdr. Sebastian d’Aramis
CIO-USS Manhattan

Able watched the interaction and kept his head low and inconspicuous.

Nightroad, Engineer

Cochrane mirrored the chin raise and said “Hello. Could you tell us if we are we on the right road to get to the city?” No use trying to blend in if we can’t pass for locals to a single individual he thought to himself. Besides, they needed to know if the Universal Translator had sufficiently parsed the language so they could be understood.
