Kaia scratched her nose as she stood at the arch, making final adjustments to her Holodeck program. After discovering that one of her ancestors had been part of the crew that made first contact with the Federation, she’d gotten an idea in her head and now, months later, was finally ready to see the fruits of her labour. Invitations had been sent out; specifically to Ka’sora and Shedda, who she considered friends, and also to Bjarke, who she thought might be interested more for scientific reasons.

The program itself was a re-telling of recorded history - or at least, a re-telling of the set up to the first contact event. Like any holodeck program, she’d had to include various contingencies, alternate paths in the likely event that her friends and colleagues didn’t make the same precise choices that the Federation Captain and his crew had made. The adaptable programming of Holodeck intelligences was pulling a lot of weight here, and she had uploaded the biographies of both ship’s crews. She was excited to see what kind of alternate telling they might come up with.

The invitations read roughly as follows (the specific invitation is what she sent to Ka’sora);

“Dear Ka’sora,
I know we have discussed our different cultures, and you enjoy learning about other people. I have put together a Holodeck program that I am quite proud of, and wonder if you might like to join me in exploring it. The program ‘stars’ Captain Orville Fleet and the crew of the Constellation-Class USS Kepler, in the year 2250. You (and a few other friends and colleagues) are invited to participate in a particularly interesting mission the Kepler went on in that year. Please don’t research it, it’s more fun if you go in blind! I have some ideas for what position in the crew you might take, but please let me know if you want to be something different. Please let me know your interest in this venture, and your availability.

The ‘bridge crew’ of the Kepler consisted of the following individuals;

Captain - Orville Fleet; Male Human
XO/Security Chief - Thelos sh’Reni; Female Andorian
Medical Chief - Caitlan Frakes; Female Human
Science/Library - Hrash; Male Caitian
Engineering - Taylor Weyer; Nonbinary Human
Pilot/Weapons Control - Kylie McLaren, Female Human [Will Remain NE]
Navigator/Astrogation - Satok; Male Vulcan
Communications - T’Sai; Female Vulcan

[OOC: Anyone feel free to join in, and claim any of the positions. Don’t worry about your characters species or gender matching that of the NPC, these are just the people who will fill any unclaimed roles in the bridge crew.]

The invitations had been sent out a few weeks ago, and today was the day that everyone who wanted to join had decided was the best day to have their little adventure. Kaia was excited, and waited at the door to the Holodeck for a few more moments before retreating within to fill her own role in the holo-adventure.

Ka’Sora replied with an enthusiastic yes! Also that she was very open to whatever role Kaia thought she would fit best.

Sebastian buzzed the comm button on the holodeck door before entering. He didn’t want to just walk in unannounced and surprise anybody that might already be in there. Entering the deck a moment later, he spoke, “Got room for . . . .one. . .more?”

Looking around, he noticed he was the first guest there, expect for Kaia.

“I promise, I didn’t look into this event as you asked everybody not to. I admit I haven’t been involved in many first contacts, so. . . . “

Kaia didn’t appear to be in the holodeck, which had already set itself to a replica of a constellation-class bridge. Her voice came over the comms. “Good evening, Lt. Cmdr! Welcome! Plenty of room.”

The bridge was mostly dark, with little spotlights up on each of the bridge stations. “Just choose a bridge station. Once you’ve chosen, there are era-appropriate uniforms in the conference room if you don’t already have one. It’s more fun with a little immersion.”

“Well, if options are still available. . . . . ,” he moved to the center seat and sat down, “I’ve always wondered if I’d make a good captain some day. i guess here’s my chance to see.”

Sebastian stood and moved to the conference room to change . .

When it came to leisure time, Shedda was lucky to arrive right on time. The duties of first officer never really ended. She loved her work, but she was glad she was able to arrive on time for Kaia, even if she wasn’t early. The doors to the holodeck hissed as they slid open and she walked onto the bridge of a Constellation Class starship. “Hello,” she called out. She walked over to the science station, her fingers trailing along the antique equipment and she peered through the microscope like viewer with a grin.

“Hi, Shedda! Glad you could make it!” Kaia’s voice came over the comms again. She bounced in place, excited to get started but patiently waiting for the remainder of her friends to arrive.

Stepping onto the holodeck and into the simulation, Ka’Sora marvelled at the sight. Golden eyes wide, she turned and took it all in. “Hello, Commander,” the Zaharan said when she saw Shedda. “This looks like it will be very interesting, don’t you think?”

With Ka’Sora’s arrival, the cast list was updated, one of the stations blinking on and off to communicate it was where, on Ka’Sora’s request, Kaia had decided to place her.
