“Sociology, though I minored in Anthropology during my undergraduate studies,” Ka’Sora said, her golden eyes glimmering. “Though specifically, my research is about social change and development in different species and how they are affected by technological changes and development. My own people’s history just…” She shook her head, trying to find the right words. “Fascinated me, I suppose is the simplest way to describe it.”

“It is a fascinating field,” Mal’athar agreed. “To study it those changes as they happen. To watch transformation as it happens. Knowing where it was, where it is, and where it might go next.”

“What about you, Commander?”

~Ensign Ka’Sora

“My background is in archology and anthropology. The planet I grew up on, had a lot of ruins from some ancient culture. I was fascinated by them growing up. Trying to figure out who they were, what happened to them, what their lives were like.” The commander had a wistful smile remembering all the days she spent scrambling around the ruins and digging in the dirt.

Cmdr. Mal’athar, XO

Bjarke stepped into the Gardens with a bit of awe, his full sleeve nordic tattoos covered the exposed arms and shoulders that the tank top that clung to his well muscled chest did not cover. The lose sweat pants he war draped his legs in mystery though judging by the man’s nearly seven foot hight and broad shoulders, there was likely more muscle waiting there as well . Slowly he walked the path taking it all in, not really paying attention to anything else. He was humming a small folk tune that Ragna and him would sing while they played vikking raider. He frowned a little he missed her, and was worried about her, he was not going to be around to try and keep her out of trouble all though it was more like resolving trouble. He laughed a little sitting down next to the pond.

Ka’Sora beamed. “I find it fascinating too, and it makes me really excited to be out here in the Delta Quadrant. In some ways I feel more connected to Zaharans from the past who took the information they were given with great curiosity and set out on a path they couldn’t fully envision. I don’t know what will happen out here, but I can’t wait to find out.”

~Ensign Ka’Sora

“It’s very exciting,” Shedda agreed. She saw movement near by and looked over, “Lt. Viktorsson! How are you?”

Cmdr. Mal’athar, XO

Bjarke had been day dreaming about time in a longship fighting the seas. When the commanders voice cut through. He stood stretched. “Ah Commander, ” he bellowed as he walked over. “Just getting in some thought time, and you?” He said looking at the woman that was with her.. “Lieutenant Viktorsson,” he said holding out his massive hand.

“Sun time. I can use my sunrise lamp, but it’s nice to get out for awhile,” Shedda said.

Her tall ears twitched amongst her curly green hair and Ka’Sora eyed the hand with intrigue. “Ah yes, the Human greeting.” She stood up and while the Zaharan was not short by any means, compared to Viktorsson, the thin and light boned woman was tiny. “I’m Ka’Sora.”

She reached out her taupe hand to take his and couldn’t help but giggle at the drastic difference between their hands. “I think this might be one of the times when my own people’s greeting might suite better. Or maybe it would just emphasize how tiny my hands are compared to yours,” she said, her golden eyes alight.

~Ensign Ka’Sora

Bjarke’s laugh filled the area, “It does seem to be quite the contrast” he mussed, “I’m afraid I’m unfamiliar with your customs, though I would be interested to learn” he noted.

Lieutenant Bjarke Viktorsson
Diplomatic Attaché

“Join us. Ka’sora was just telling me how she wants to share more of her culture with us.” She turned to the Ensign, “I would be interested to learn as well.”

Cmdr. Mal’athar, XO

“If that is ok with you ?” He said looking at Ka’sora, he was very interested in learning about her people. He already missed his family and friends so it was nice to have some social time.

Lieutenant Bjarke Viktorsson
Diplomatic Attaché

“Of course,” the Zaharan said with an eager nod.

Kaia wandered into the garden, a PaDD tucked under her arm, planning to sit and read in the presence of nature for a while. She wasn’t surprised to see that some people seemed to already be here, but was pleased to note her new friend Ka’Sora among them. Deciding to say hi, she wandered over in their direction, lifting a hand in greeting.

Shedda waved her over, “Kaia, come join us. Have you met Lt Viktorsson? He’s our new diplomatic officer. Lt Viktorsson this is Lt Kaia, our Chief Engineer.”

Cmdr. Mal’athar, XO

Bjarke looked down at Kaia a large smiled still plastered across his face. “Pleasure” he said holding out his hand as he took a knee to bring him self closer to eye level. His Six foot eight inch (203.2cm) frame doubled hers. She would have to crane her neck to look up at him which he did not want to make her do.

“Greetings, Bjarke. It’s nice to meet you,” Kaia dipped her head in greeting, and touched her palm to her chest briefly. “You don’t need to crouch down to talk, I’m perfectly capable of hearing you,” she chuckled, flicking her large, catlike ears. “Plus, it’d be somewhat difficult to walk and talk if you’re on your knees.”

Lieutenant Kaia
Chief Engineer USS Manhattan

Bjarke smiled stood, her head now back down just above his waist “We’ll it’s a pleasure to meet all of you, ” he boomed, “Are we walking or sitting” he asked.

Shedda grinned, but restrained the chuckle building. Kaia was indomitable. Shedda liked her and respected her. She’d earned her position 100 times over.

Cmdr. Mal’athar, XO

“Hello Kaia,” Ka’Sora said with a wide smile. There was something nice about being in a random spot on the ship and actually knowing someone. She was amused that the people she had been thus far had been predominantly from he senior staff. She wasn’t entirely sure why that felt odd, but it was also amusing.

~Ensign Ka’Sora

“I believe Ensign Ka’Sora was about to tell us about her people” he noted.

Lieutenant Bjarke Viktorsson
Diplomatic Attaché

“Ah, wonderful. We have a standing date to share food from her world,” Kaia nodded happily. “I was going to sit and read, but learning is preferable.”

Lieutenant Kaia
Chief Engineer USS Manhattan

“Well we were just sitting, but since this is Ka’sora’s impromptu lesson…” Shedda began turning to look at the ensign, “What do you prefer? Sit or walk while we discuss?”

Cmdr. Mal’athar, XO

For a moment Ka’Sora wore a bewildered look and then she burst out into laughter and wobbled her head. Her experience in sharing her culture thus far had been one on one, and that had been mostly true at the Academy as well, though there was that one time in class she ended up giving an impromptu comparative lesson. Still, there was no reality where she was doing a teaching session with members of the senior staff. “We can walk if people want, and I am curious to see more of this garden.” She wanted to add that she didn’t wan’t to ruin the commander’s alone time, but that seemed irrelevant at this point.

“First, though”- she looked up and eyed Viktorsson-“I guess is the lesson in Zaharan greeting,” she said with a slight giggle. Ka’Sora held up her hands vertically in front of her, facing her palms towards the giant of a man. “And now you shall see why I was so amused with the idea. You simply touch your palms to mine to show there is openness between us and we both bow our heads.”

~Ensign Ka’Sora

Bjarke’s laugh could only be described as a boom, it was gutteral and full of joy as he their had pressed together. He cleared his throat shaking off his laughter, and then bowed his head. “Palm to palm like this?”

Lieutenant Bjarke Viktorsson
Diplomatic Attaché

Her golden eyes were alight and her lips were fighting the smirk that desperately wanted to reveal itself. “Yes,” she said and then touched her hands to his. As she bowed her head to him briefly, she started shaking.

By the time Ka’Sora lowered her hands she was full out laughing because of the sheer absurdity that was their hands size difference. “Sorry, we just don’t have people are tall as you on my world. Our formal greeting does seem rather funny in other contexts.”

~Ensign Ka’Sora

Bjarke smiled warmly, lowering his hand as his laugh subsided. “It is amazing ya? Thank you showing teaching me” he noted. “I would love to learn about all your customs when you have time” he noted. “It is always better to learn first hand than from books, when I can I try to live among a people for a few months at least.”

Lieutenant Bjarke Viktorsson
Diplomatic Attaché

“How many people have you lived with? Was one your favorite?” Shedda asked.

Cmdr. Mal’athar, XO

“My home planet has people his size, and larger,” Kaia said with a small smile, wanting to contribute. “Although tall for a human, you’d be quite average for a laleri.”
