The mission orders came through on a Priority One channel. There was no audio, no one telling them what to do; just an encrypted message from Star Fleet Intelligence.

(OOC: Excited to get sim started, dropping T’Mor on the bridge in preparation. - Ava)

T’Mor, being only a junior level officer free from the burden of Command, was not aware of the new orders. She continued to man her station on the bridge. Focusing on the task at hand, observing the usual subspace turbulence for anything out of the ordinary, as one does. Blissfully unaware as to what would soon come.

|Lt., j.g. T’Mor, Scientist|

Sara saw these new orders and closed her eyes for a moment. After a deep breath, she opened her eyes and spoke. “Helm you’re going to receive coordinates. Lay in a course. I don’t know what we’re in yet- but we’ve been ordered to drop everything and attend to this so it must be urgent.”

-CO

The helm officer nodded and said “Aye, Captain. Coordinates coming in now. Looks like we are headed…” and a puzzled look came over his face and he turned to face Kiernan. “Um, Captain? I think there may be a mistake. These coordinates aren’t anywhere.” and he shook his head. “No no… I mean they are literally in the middle of nowhere. The closest system from that point is at least a standard month at Warp 5. And its going to take us almost two and a half weeks at Warp 6. Can we get a confirmation on these?”

GM

At the Intel station located at the rear of the bridge, Kohana tapped into the helm console to access the coordinate. He then began a search for the area in an effort to find out the significance of the area. . . . .

OOC: Somehow the sickbay thread got thrown into the middle of this main sim thread ??

Lieutenant Kohana Black Wolf
Chief Intelligence Officer/Helm USS Asimov

T’Mor may have been the on-duty bridge science officer, and by no means would Demil usurp that outside of an active mission scenario - after all, what good were department duty schedules if one arbitrarily ignored them - but that didn’t mean the CSO wasn’t on the bridge. He was at one of the aft stations, having been multitasking keeping a pulse on general ship happenings that might affect the science dept and running some data from an experiment. At the helm officer’s question, he shunted that experiment to the console in his office and pulled up the area surrounding the coordinates, researching any known anomalies or phenomena in the area as well as the most recent detailed scans of that space.

Lieutenant Demil Lis
Chief Science Officer

Both searches returned quite similar information. The coordinates were in an area of space where there was literally nothing. It was between systems, no celestial bodies of any kind, no government claimed it, and there were no artificial habitats or structures of any kind…

Quite literally, there was nothing there. It was empty space. The one item of interest is that a Federation Star Fleet Deep Space Exploratory Vessel named the USS John Brown had disappeared with all hands in this general area three years ago. And this is when both researchers were lucky to be on an Intelligence vessel: there was a Classified report (both of them having the clearance for such matters) that had been filed less than one standard day prior that stated the Executive Officer of the ship, Commander Jed, had been found alive on Oed V- a Federation colony on the FAR far side of Federation space less than two days prior.

(OOC: So to make sure I understand this correctly - John Brown vanishes 3 years ago. 2 days ago the XO shows up on Oed, leading to a report yesterday?)

Shara got the ping they had received new orders and entered the bridge. Taking her seat, she accessed the classified file and snorted. “Needle in a haystack. Fun. Novel, even,” she quipped in Sara’s direction.

Sara rolled her eyes. “Fun is one way to describe it. You wouldn’t happen to know any secret spy tricks for getting needles out of haystacks, would you?”

-CO

“Some. Depends on the needle, and depends on the hay,” Calloway said with a tiny smirk.

“You can always jump in with both feet, Captain, roll around for a while and hope you get poked,” Kohana joked. “But my search did find something. The USS John Brown disappeared in this area where the coordinates point us. No trace of her or the crew was ever found. That is, until yesterday. The John Brown’s XO, one Cmdr. Jed, was found alive on Oed V.”

Lieutenant Kohana Black Wolf
Chief Intelligence Officer/Helm USS Asimov

Shara turned in her seat to look at Black Wolf. “Really? Any other details, like how or what condition he was in? I’m going to pull his file up on the viewscreen.” Shara entered a few commands and had the officer’s record displayed so they could reference it as they chatted.

~Shara Calloway, XO

The file came up and showed a Bolian male with a large smile. A Science officer, his record was above average with several commendations and a citation application from an Admiral for a Daystrom Award. He had been assigned to the John Brown as Executive Officer specifically for its last mission: deep space exploration of a previously unexplored region of space that had been neglected by… well… everyone because of the absolute lack of anything. No celestial bodies, no systems, no asteroid fields or anything. But it hasn’t been studied or verified by any government in the Federation or other known organizations… so that’s why they were there.

Outside of his record was the report from two days ago:

At 1950 local time at the Wild Fork Restaurant on Oed V, Commander Jed was found when he emerged from the kitchen and moved into the main dining area carrying a large knife. A former Star Fleet Ibtelligence officer who was familiar with the Commander before his disappearance recognized him and approached. Jed seemed to recognize the officer, but then collapsed into unconciousness. Commander Jed was aided by a present Star Fleet Medical officer and transported to Star Fleet Medical facility on Oed V. Upon arrival he was significantly malnourished, delusional, and showed signs of extreme muscular atrophy. The Commander is currently in a medically induced coma.

GM

“If it’s alright, I’d like to reach out to the Intel and Med officers who found him. Reports are all good, but maybe they can share personal observations, get something straight from the horses mouth, per say.”

Lieutenant Kohana Black Wolf
Chief Intelligence Officer/Helm USS Asimov

Shara looked at Black Wolf and nodded. “Do it. Be discreet as necessary.”

~Shara Calloway, XO

“I would also like to either be a part of that call or have access to transcripts,” Demil requested. “Primary sources could end up being incredibly valuable.”

Lieutenant Demil Lis
Chief Science Officer

Calloway nodded. “Two heads are better than one in this,” she said. “Go with him, Lieutenant Lis.”

OOC: Lis can join Black Wolf in the Main Sim- A Small Chat thread.

~Shara Calloway, XO

Turning her attention to the screen with the information on it, Shara rose from her seat and stood in the middle of the bridge and glanced at Sara. “I’m going to do some more digging. I want to verify the orders before we engage warp,” she said, before moving to a back console.

=/\=Computer, display origin code in a side bar,” she said, looking for the sender’s location code as well as verifying tags that would tell her if not the exact person who send the message, then the sub-department within S.I. They had ways to verify their identity and S.I. would never send them orders they couldn’t verify unless they had been given a heads up that that sort of secrecy was forthcoming. Even then Shara was a skilled programmer and could suss out things in the code others might not be able to. Though what she wouldn’t give to have Faye next her just now. She’d make quick work of it all and have the audacity to appear bored.
