Lisa paced around her quarters mind racing with new ideas. She looked over at a folder on the corner of the room. It had red tape around it. Her failed experiment. Don’t go there she thought and put it out of her mind. She didn’t have time, she had her check in with Paddy today. She made some quick notes on one the many padds around the room, tied her hair up in a greasy ponytail and left for the CNS office. She almost made it to the turbolift when…Did you leave the light on? She knew she hadn’t. She fought hard against the urge to go back and check. What happens when you don’t check?
“The warp core explodes.” She muttered to herself as she returned to her quarters. The light was off. This happened another two times. The warp core wasn’t going to explode today, not on her watch. Eventually she made it to the the Counsellor’s office. She pressed the chime and waited to be called in, making notes on a pads while she waited. She was always working on something.
Lt (j.g) Lisa Caldwell (Eng)
A voice came up from behind her, “A little light on your feet today Lieutenant,” the voice rounded the corner to reveal itself as Lieutenant Patrick McMillan, the Asimov’s counselor, “I was just about to come back to prep for your appointment, come on in!”
-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counselor-
Lisa jumped, spun round and brandished the padd as a makeshift weapon and let out a squeal upon hearing the voice behind her. She went red with embarrassment at that.
“I’m sorry Lieutenant, I wasn’t expecting you to be out.” She replied, then realised she was still holding the padd in the air put it down by her side. She went a deeper shade of red.
“Thank you, I hope I’m not too early!” She said following Paddy into his office.Lt (j.g) Lisa Caldwell (Eng)
‘Not at all!’ Paddy straightened a few of the couch cushions in the centre of his office and gestured for the Engineer to take a seat, ‘Can I get you anything?’
-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counsellor-
Lisa smiled slightly at Paddy’s relaxed manner. She hadn’t been looking forward to this, but her reservations were out to rest rather quickly.
“Just water please Sir. Thank you.” She replied taking a seat.Lt (j.g) Lisa Caldwell (Eng)

“Jesus Lieutenant, me father was sir, Paddy or Lieutenant is fine, It’s Lisa isn’t it?” Paddy placed a cup of water on the table and took a seat opposite Caldwell, resting his hands comfortably across his chest.
-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counsellor-
Lisa gave Paddy a small smile and nodded.
“Very well, Si.... Paddy.” She replied correcting herself.
“Yes, Lisa. I’ve not long arrived.” She added. Paddy would have seen the notes from her check up with Dr Sorel and the scans that showed evidence of post traumatic stress. Lisa took a sip of water and her thoughts turned once again to the incident. She tried hard to concentrate but felt herself thinking back.Paddy would see Lisa staring off into the distance, like her mind was somewhere else.
Lt (j.g) Lisa Caldwell (Eng)
Paddy followed the Chief Engineer’s eyes, “Ah, now I know that look, we can take this as slow or fast as you like Lisa.”
-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counselor-
Lisa, returning to the present shook out of it
“Hmm? What? Oh, sorry Paddy. I… I find it hard to concentrate and focus sometimes. Since… Since the…” She stopped mid sentence, took a deep breath and then continued.
“Since the incident.”she replied thinking back, once again to that awful day. She could almost smell the smoke and hear the klaxons. She clenched her fists tightly under the table.Lt (j.g) Lisa Caldwell (Eng)

‘That’s what I’m here for Lisa, but we’ll only go as far as you want to,’ Paddy said gently, ‘If that sounds like a plan?’
-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counsellor/-
Lisa breathed heavily at the soft, calm manor in which Paddy spoke and nodded.
“I’m ready. Where would you like me to start Paddy?” She asked trying to mentally prepare herself.Lt (j.g) Lisa Caldwell (Eng)

“Tell me what can you recall about the incident, if you are willing to of course.”
-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counsellor-
Lisa gritted her teeth and drew a deep breathing nodding. She clenched her fist and closed her eyes her right leg bouncing up and down on the ball of her foot.
“I.....I had just finished typing up the improvements I was going to make to the warpcore. I thought…knew that what I had planned would improve efficiency by 100%.” She began taking it back to just before nearly blowing up the ship. She could see her old quarters, neat and tidy…well tidy-ish. More than they had been recently. There was still the piles of PADs with notes and drawings, but they were neatly stacked. A fiesta red Stratocaster hung on the wall- pride of place. It was badly chipped but it was old. She smiled as she remembered.
“I was in my quarters and had finished breakfast and my morning coffee.” She could smell the fresh beans. “I picked up my notes and then headed straight to Engineering.” She remembered walking through the corridor smiling at passers by who nodded respectfully and gave a small “Chief”. She had been well liked and respected.
“I walked to Engineering and then gave out the jobs for the day. It was a normal morning.” It had been. “I won’t give you the details of the improvements that I made, I don’t want to bore you.” She stated as she remembered working on them with Davies. He had been her friend and Second. They had worked away for what felt like hours.
“poured over everything, we ran hundreds of practice runs and then we were finally ready. I was at the main computer by the warp core and I hit the button. Everything was fine and working as intended and then....then.” Suddenly her mind was a blur, the klaxons began to sound, she could hear them clearly. Everyone was panicking, she was panicking. Her breathing increased and she began to rock back and forward in her chair.
“The warpcore core will explode…the warpcore will explode.” She stated over an over again as she remembered. She could hear the computer warning of the inevitable overload and counting down, minutes turned to seconds. The klaxons seemed to get louder and louder, overwhelming her senses. She cried out in pain, she was going to die. She knew she was going to die, everyone was.
“The warpcore is going to explode.” She almost yelled forcing her eyes open. She looked horrified at Paddy.
“The warpcore is going to explode, I have to stop it!” She exclaimed beginning to rise out of her chair, her forehead had hints of perspiration and her eyes were full of tears that began to stream down her greasy face causing streams of pink to appear as they began to wash away the grease.Lt (j.g) Lisa Caldwell (Eng)
Paddy stood quickly, grabbing Caldwell’s hands, “LISA! Lisa look at me, you’re ok, you’re not in Engineering now! Breathe deeply, nice and slow and steady.”
-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counselor-
Lisa barely heard Paddy to begin with. She tried to shake him off instinctually, she looked directly at him when he said her name.
“I need to.... I have to....the warpcore....the warp core…” She stuttered and then the panic was over. A wave of emotion hit her and she burst into tears. She slumped into the chair put her head into her hands and began to sob.Lt (j.g) Lisa Caldwell (Eng)

Paddy took Caldwell’s hands, “It’s ok Lisa, you’re safe. The warp core is fine. Do you mind if I make a call?”
-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counselor-
Lisa gripped Paddy’s hands firmly as she sobbed.
“I… I guess so.” She replied slightly confused as to why Paddy would want to call someone in the middle of their session.Lt (j.g) Lisa Caldwell (Eng)
<Bump>“It won’t be right now,” Paddy clarified, “But if you’re happy to, I’d like to work with Sickbay to see if we can help control those visions of… the incident.”
