Ranlei shrugged “It wasn’t exactly a romantic moment. It was more that I have had some very bad experiances with females who assume I threaten the fidelity of their relationship so I tend to shy away from women who are being extra nice in what can only be called self defence. So she was being insistant about us doing a excercise program together. I was uncomfortable so tried to disengage and she ordered me to participate. Iobliged the request by kissing her. She may not of meant it in a sexy ual manner but I am a Green Orion . Sexuality defines pretty much every time interaction I have ever had with every person I have ever met. Which includes the Aznaxian Ambassadors son. Think of a squid only twice as many tenticles intelligent and they have a helium gas bag so float in the air. Fun date though.” Ranlei said with a great deal of amusement and a mischievious grin, She was likely pulling the councilors leg but her smile actually got brighter as she seemed to reflect on the memory. Snapping out of it she said, “Yeah Doc that sounds good. Ihaven’t been able to deal with it on my own.”, as she tried to bring her thoughts back to business.

“If you were uncomfortable with that situation and power was misused, I hope that you filed a report with the appropriate chain of command,” Katie murmured, her voice and her facial expression growing serious and concerned despite Greene’s attempt at levity.

Ranlei shrugged. “While I am sure ordering someone to spend time with you to form a friendship isn’t strictly proper. I admit to being flattered by the attention. I am rather aware of the fact that I tend to discourage women from getting close to me and came to realise that I am at fault in some of the incidents I have had with women because by evading them I made myself seem suspicious to them. No truth is Katie I kissed her thinking it would make her uncomfortable and get her to leave me be. So if anyone was improper it was me. What I did not expect was her to be comfortable enough to kiss me back. So I ended up triggering my own libedo and left in a hurry for a ice cold shower.”,
Ranlei said and shrugged again. ” So while I am not overly interested in experimenting with women to be honest once triggered my options narrow significantly. It’s a hair trigger by design. I earned some extra credit in the sciences and medical fields by letting then run tests while at the academy. I and the science students learned a great deal about what makes me tick.”, Ranlei said fairly bemused by where the conversation had turned.

Katie shifted in her seat as she listened to Ranlei, which was the only sign of the slight discomfort she felt at the ensign’s words. It wasn’t necessarily her job to right the wrongs of the past, but much of what the woman said rubbed her sense of advocacy in the wrong way. She felt the indentation of her teeth into her lower lip and took a breath, being careful not to display any of the signs of her unrest toward Greene. “Thank you for telling me that, Ensign,” she finally acknowledged. “Is there anything else you would like to share before we end this session?”

Ranlei had spebt a lifetime being aware of how people reacted and she frowned as she noticed the Councilors discomfort, “Whats wrong?”, she asked leaning forward. Ranlei had learned early on that keeping people happy was important to her safety and happiness and while she didn’t have the training typical of a woman of her species she did very well on raw natural talent.

Fortunately, over her years as a victim advocate, Katie had developed quite the poker face and so she was able to easily meet Greene’s eyes as she forced an upturn to her lips. “I just want to be certain that the inappropriate actions of people in the past do not affect you negatively,” she commented, keeping her voice light enough. “It sounds like you have a good handle on that, but memories can sneak up at the worst of times.” Her smile turned rueful as she considered what that meant to her personally. “Is there anything else that would be helpful for me to know?”

“Oh. Look Doc. I had to accept long ago that even if I joined a Nunnery peoples opinions of me would be defined by my skin color and biology. So I developed a habit of not letting such things bother me. People say stupid things assume things that are untrue and I smile and keep doing what I want to do. “, and she sat back in her chair again. “Fact is I planted the idea of being sent to a Military academy into the judges head. I maintain more personal Freedom than anyone I know because I have no interest in wasting my time trying to get people to respect me as a person. people see I am Orion. They don’t look deeper than that. So if anyone was being inappriate towards me Katie. I used it to my advantage. Yes I left a good many Scientists and Doctors a lot less innocent than they started out. But I chose to do so and nobody coerced me into anything. I also learned a great deal about how I was genetically engineered I may of grown up in a human colony but I have adapted the situation to fit my needs. I wanted off the colony, So I arranged to be sent away. The only thing that actually touched me emotionally was I really loved the guy who accused me of being a prostitute in the first place. “, And Ranlei finished off her tea. “There are plenty of things wrong with the universe. It’s a hostile place. Most cultures choose to try to dominate every danger around them. My people chose to do the jobs everyone needs but nobody wants to do personally. Empires rosecand Empires fell. But in every Empire my species is there iñ the cracks filling the needs that Nobody wants to admit they need. I don’t debase myself quite as much because as Empires go the Federation tends to be fairly moralistic. But even the Federation needs a species to look down upon. It doesn’t bother me that that happens to be me.” She said looking Katie in the eyes. “That Katie is as close to me getting out of sorts over how people see me as I am ever going to get. I fit in and do my job. I don’t expect praise or promotion. So nobody can effect me and I am happy with that.”, She said matter of factly then smiled.

“Noted,” Katie replied, simply, realizing that it would take her a little more time than they had in this session to digest Ranlei’s words. She smiled at the ensign again and repeated her previous question. “Is there anything else that you’d like to discuss?”

Ranlei, shrugged. “I guess not Doctor Kat. So I assume you find me adequate tp perform my job or You would be telling me what was wrong or trying to coerce me into making changes to my thinking. I want to thank you for your time as I know your very busy right now and for your patience with me. I will be running a holoprogram tonight that may provide some distraction. My own personal Take on a Casino. The hotel has a spa as well if gambling and carousing are not your cuppa tea. I learned a great deal today. I think we might even be able to tolorate each others company.”, Ranlei said as she packed up the dishes cleaned off the CNS’s desk and returned the dishes to the replicator for recycling. When she was satisfied that the desk was exactly how it was before she entered only cleaner she faced the CNS across the desk. Clicked her heels and bowed formally and stood waiting to be dismissed.

Katie’s brow furrowed slightly at Ranlei’s implication about the counseling profession engaging in coercion, but in an attempt to leave the session on a pleasant note, she smiled and nodded. “I’ll do my best to come by. I’m curious to see what you’ve come up with,” she responded, mentally reviewing whether she had made any plans with Chavez that evening. “Please remember that I’m always here if you have any concerns that you would like to discuss, but just one thing… I’m not a doctor.” She smiled and got to her feet to show Greene to the entrance to her office space.

Ranlei smiled, “I guess that means your just a Kat then.”, Ranlei quiped as she stepped out of the office and let the closing door save her from any reply. She ought she thought to reign in her sence of humor as pretty much everyone out ranked her. Her time in the suplimental training did not count as on duty time so she bottom of the seniority list. Not that anyone but another ensign would notice a Ensigns seniority standing.
