As the transporter beams would release the away team one after another the now recombined team got to take in the ruins around them and the planet’s make up as well. All about them were ancient stone/brick like buildings mixed in with Federation standard issue building riggings for aiding in digging and climbing in places. A sonic digger was to their left the large machine currently idle with several panels and parts strewn nearby. To their right was a large olive drab tent presumably where the sole Vulcan archaeologist Shanok called as home. The sky was a olive blue in color tone the air was warm though not unbearably so perhaps a modest 65-70 degrees F.

As they took this all in the Vulcan Shanok came out of his tent, dressed in a dirt adorned assortment of once white pants and shirt. He stood about 6‘0 in height with an angular muscle build like many who did hard digging and labor in this field. Turning to them he said., “..Ah you all must be the away team I expected. Which among you is in charge there is much I could have done to assist me and to help you in turn with your Gurdian guests.” He said.

Ranlei beamed in on the second wave and looked about as the Vulcan made his appearance. She looked about at the site and wasn’t impressed. Obviously the Federation had deemed this as a low priority project and placed minimal effort into it. Which wasn’t overly surprising given they were on the Romulan border and the ruins belonged to a people who’s empire? fell mostly in Romulan space. She finished looking about her eyes falling on the sonic excavator that lay in pieces. Who uses sonics anymore she thought. She had brought a portable unit that likely would do the same job better and with less fussing by the operators. So she pushed her grav cart towards the excavator as it was the most obvious broken thing. If someone wanted something else fixed or looked at first they could tell her. Since she was near Philips after the beam in she said to him. “Seen some fairly ugly slums that I think I would rather visit again than be in this place.”
