Dropping his belongings in his quarters, Jace headed towards the chief helmsman’s office. He passed the arbetum on Deck 14, and saw a Venus Fly Trap amongst the plants, it seemed to be … humming?!?“HUMMMMMMMMMMM,” which anyone who knows music and who has some kind of musicality about them would recognise as a perfect Middle C.
“HUMMMMMMMMMMM,” the D above the C.
Then the E, the F, the G, the A, the B and the high C. Each note pitched perfectly.
He paused and looked at it … it was not just humming, but swaying rhythmically.
Audrey swayed her main stalk and the other stalks that led to the smaller pods on her body swayed in time with the Alpha pod as well. Then the hums went down, “High C > B > A > G > F > E > D > C”
Then, she began to harmonise, singing major and minor scales in unison, her different pods each taking on a particular scale. Then as that was happening, Alpha-Pod was singing softly “somebody tell me … your name”.
He stood, transfixed for about half a minute … wait, where was that music coming from … he hurried on. “This is too weird,” he said, “my name is Jace Vorel.”
The Vulcan he shared the shuttle trip with, looked at him, “yes, I know, and I’m S’vor, do not forget my name, Ensign. Your hair is still not regulation.”
“S’vor? Rhymes with S’more,” Jace said, before hurrying onto his boss’ office.
“Jace Vorel … S’vor …” Audrey said, “I’ll remember you.”
Reaching the room where the Chief Helmsman had his office, Jace reached out and rang the chime.

The helms office was a small one near the main shuttlebay, and was abuzz with various taskings. Lt Storm had to step away from duty and Moore, who had been settling into Helm and Yeoman duties, had to bump up to the challenge. He would likely relinquish the chief duties fairly soon, but for this basic transition period, he was in charge.
And that meant mostly paperwork, which was delightfully interrupted by a chime on the door. “Enter,” he commanded, and the door slid open.
Jace entered and looked around, “Newly transferred here for duty, Sir, my transfer orders.”
Sean saluted in return and greeted the newcomer. “Actually, you are the sir, sir. I am only temporarily handling things while Lt Storm is on leave. Crewman Moore at your service.”
“Good to meet you, Crewman Moore, I’m Ensign Jace Vorel, here to drift the Ark Angel and get to places as quickly as possible and fly at unsafe velocities.”
After Ensign Vorel introduced himself, Moore nodded and slid over a padd. “This is the last bit of orders from the el-tee. I have done all the checks in the shuttlebays that I can, and then I’m headed up for bridge duty. I assume you know your way around a shuttlebay and all our various craft?” It was an assumption, but a logical one given the requirements of a posting such as this.

“Oh yes, Crewman, and my brother has sent me the engineering specs of them so I can tune their engines to make them go faster.” Jace replied eagerly, “never know when a bit of extra juice will ensure we can succeed our missions and make things more exciting for us. Which of the shuttles do you want me to rev up first?”
