Animal Naming Ceremony — Amdirgol S./Drake

The sun dips low over the Colorado Rockies, painting the sky in hues of fire and amethyst. The air is thin, brisk, and filled with the quiet scent of pine resin and cooling earth. Upon a plateau overlooking a winding valley lies a wide stone circle—its boulders placed long ago by hands unknown, some say by ancient spirits, some say by giants of forgotten myth.

In the center sits a single flat slab of granite, weathered smooth by centuries.

The silence is broken by a sudden flash of white—broad wings gliding effortlessly on the mountain updraft.

A majestic snowy owl, radiant against the violet dusk, descends into the stone circle. She settles upon the central slab, feathers glowing in the fading light. After a long, breathless moment, she lifts her head and releases three deep, resonant hoots that echo down the cliffs like a forgotten incantation.

Her call stirs the wild.

From the darkening forest edges and the rocky crags above, animals arrive—padding, flapping, slithering, bounding, lumbering—forming a broad circle around the WiseOwl. They come from sea and sky, stone and sand, forest and myth.

Among them gather:

Budgie, Capybara, Weasel, Cockroach, Seal, Griffin, Bumblebee, Coyote, Koala, Mouse, Beaver, Pelican, Kraken, Tiger, Wolverine, Kiwi Bird, Rhinoceros, Hummingbird, Gorilla, Fox, Ocelot, Wolfe, Lynx, Dolphin, Tribble—
and newly arriving with quiet hops and a quiver of whiskers: Bunny, soft-furred and bright-eyed, settling near Mouse and Koala.

High on a boulder perches Griffin, wings half-spread, talons glinting gold.

The Ceremony is about to begin.

“Bring forth our newest member!” hoots the WiseOwl, her voice carrying with the power of ancient mountains.

At the forest’s edge, illuminated by the last streaks of sunset, a Tribble rolls forward with soft purrs. At its side, a Dolphin glides atop a conjured ribbon of shimmering water that winds gracefully across the stone circle like liquid moonlight.

Parting the pine boughs between them steps a figure who has long been shaped by story, language, and the fire of imagination. He was chosen by his fellow Captains, who recognized his depth of insight, his mastery of words, and his creative flame that dances like myth itself.

Amdirgol S., of Colorado, strides into the circle. He breathes in the mountain air, steady and unafraid.

The snowy WiseOwl fixes him with ancient, knowing eyes.

“Amdirgol S.!” she calls. “You have been summoned because you are now one of us. You are a Captain. You are called to be named and bound among our ranks. Do you object?”

Amdirgol shakes his head—determined, composed.

The WiseOwl extends a snowy wing and affixes Captain’s pips to his collar. They gleam like smoldering runes forged in an age before time.

“I name you: Drake.
You walk the paths of story, of language, of myth. You shape meaning as others shape stone. Like the drake of legend—winged or wingless, wise or wrathful, keeper of lore and fire—you are both maker and guardian.
Your creativity burns bright.
Your knowledge runs deep.
Your voice carries the echoes of ancient tongues.

Welcome, Drake, to the STF Captain’s Club.”

A chorus erupts around him—howls, hoots, chirps, chitters, roars, trills, the beating of wings, the purrs of Tribble, the soft thump of Bunny’s feet, the solemn chest-beat of Gorilla, the sharp yip of Fox, the resonant howl of Wolfe, the liquid song of Dolphin, the proud screech of Griffin, and even the distant, unearthly call of Kraken rising from unseen waters.

The snowy owl spreads her wings wide, lit by the last flame of sunset.

“May Sisko have mercy on your soul!” she hoots with a spark of mischief, and the Ceremony is complete.

As night settles over the Rocky Mountains, their voices lift—wild, joyous, and timeless—carried on the cold winds to the stars above.
