Ten Forward
Animal Naming Ceremony — Ryan Williams/Lion
Kelpie splashed about getting everything in the Zoo enclosure wet. “I’m so excited! Is the invitation ready yet? Isitisitisit???” She wanted to deliver it, but there was no water close enough. It was SO exciting. Her tail thrashed around getting everything and everyone drenched again.
Jaguar lay lazily on a tree branch, paw hanging down, and peeked an eye open. “It is. Over there.” And points with his tail.
“YAY!” Kelpie swam over to the bank and carefully picked up the beautifully embossed envelope, with the delightful waterproof, tear proof, fire proof, all the proofs - vellum and gorgeous metallic ink.
“Giraffe! It’s ready! Come on. I can’t take it, he’s too far away from the water!” Kelpie pouted. She loved delivering these letters. She held up the embossed envelope containing the delightful vellum with the gorgeous ink. “Hurry! We are SO LATE.”
“NO WAY! He’ll eat me!” Giraffe exclaimed. “I might be taller, but I’m not doing it. Make Rhino do it.”
Kelpie swam over to the edge of the stream and looked up at Rhino. “Please Rhino? Will you take it?”
“He won’t eat you, Giraffe, but if it makes you feel better and calms Kelpie down, I’ll take it.” He strode off with the invitation.
Leaping down from his tree next to the Kelpie pond, Jaguar sighed,. “We are late, but rushing won’t make it better, it’ll get there when it gets there.”
“I knooooooow, but still!” Kalpie splashed around again so excited she could barely contain it. There were grumbles as the area was soaked again. “Kelpie go get everything else ready, before you drown everyone but Giraffe,” Jaguar suggested. Kelpie laughed as she turned to send out the other invites through the magical Zoo communications network. =/\=Come one, Come all for the induction of our newest member! When: Today. Where: Grand Hall of the Zoo Enclosure!=/\=
Kelpie chuckled before turning to her task. The Grand Hall was a mess from the last party. So she got to work cleaning (trying not to leave water everywhere) and straightening over turned tables, chairs, perches, roosts, and hanging new banners. She was hard at work when Rhino returned. “Your back!” Kelpie cheered and with great effort ignored the ding of incoming tags. “No, no, not today.”
“Owl! Release the prey!” Owl obligingly stretched her claws out and, releasing the latch that released the prey into a special enclosure. Kelpie swam over to the podium by the river and tapped the mic. “Places everyone! He’s right outside! Places!” Coyote, Owl, Tribble, Roach, Cabbybara, Hummingbird, Rhino, Giraffe, Jaguar, and the rest settled into their seats.
“Our esteemed Rhino, will you please bring our vic…our captain forward?”
The doors to the Grand Hall opened with a silent hydraulic hiss. “Ryan Williams, please step forward.”
“Ryan has been a captain for a long time, long before the Zoo started. He is and has been an excellent writer, a fair and distinguished captain. More than that he has been a leader in all aspects of STF, and it is time that we recognize his leadership.”
“Therefore, it is my great honor to anoint you,” she raised her large tail fin.
“KELPIE NO!” The crowd called and she huffed. “Fiiiine.” She cleared her throat. “Therefore, it is my great honor to name you, Ryan Williams, Captain Lion!” Growls, hoots, calls, barks, clicks, whinnies, and more rose in excitement and congratulations for the newly named Captain Lion.
