Greetings, my fellow STFers.

For those who don’t know I’m Adam W. and I ought to introduce myself to you with an abridged version of my life story. It all began when I was abandoned as a baby and sent floating down a river where a pack of wolves found me and raised me as their own. Later, I was reintroduced to human society, and, ultimately, Star-Fleet.com.

Okay, that isn’t completely accurate. I should say that I’ve been a member here just over four years. During that time I’ve been the Academy Fleet Liaison Officer, the Vice Commandant of the Academy, the Fleet Commander of the Pioneer Fleet, the Assistant Personnel Director, and I’ve been Vice President twice. I’m currently the CO of Outpost 42 and I’ve always enjoyed opportunities I’ve had in STF to mentor. I wrote two bills that were passed, both of which I wrote because I was concerned about a small portion of the club being treated unfairly by the rules. I always have and always will respond to such a situation.

In my engineering job I’m counted on to do detailed work. I help make sure my own department is doing work correctly, and I look for inefficiencies outside my department and get them addressed. Which are all skills that I would plan on helping me as President.

To sum up our campaign briefly, I’d say the plan is this: we have some areas where we can improve as a club, but for the most part I want to help keep pushing forward the good work that has already begun.

Hello everyone,

I’m going to post a brief bio following Adam’s model here. I think most people in the club are vaguely familiar with me, but for those of you who aren’t, my name is Thomas. I have been in the club for nearing eight years now. During that time, I have held the roles of XO, CO, AFComm, FComm (various fleets), Internet Director, President, and TECH.

I have had roles in some of the most influential events of the past several years, including being the original creator/author of TECH, which is probably the most profound government change in the past decade. I like to think that paid off, as it facilitated the development and deployment of Exodus, the most profound change in club software in well over a decade. I was the design lead for the project, and the original design sketches actually predate the project known as “Exodus” by some time. My reputation in the club probably varies a little by who you asked, but overall I am viewed as a dependable, somewhat frank, person. I think that I have mellowed significantly in the past few years.

Outside of the club, I work in a hospital focused on providing care for acute mentally ill patients. Before that I was a program coordinator/case manager. My background is working with people in crisis, most of the time with serious mental illness and/or substance use problems. I facilitate a lot of groups and also do one-on-one interventions focused on crisis intervention. It is challenging work, but I love it. It has certainly made me value stress management, and I am probably more patient and calm now than I ever have been. I think if you knew me several years ago (even in the context of the club), it’s probably noticeable.

My focus in the campaign will be advocating for some of the natural discussions and changes that should follow Exodus. There are a number of ways that we can improve the club from a smarter-not-harder vision that were not possible before. It’s also important for us to look at continuity - I will be posting about the Community Organizer discussion that was had, and some of the ways I think we can continue that discussion and reap benefits of a holistic approach to community management. I don’t think this is a time for radical, dramatic, club changes, but it is also important that we take the opportunity to make those changes that are necessary in a considerate way, and not sit back and miss the opportunity.
