This is just a general question for all candidates, both those in currently and those who may run between now and the end of the nomination period.

Assume I am a new member who joined let’s say 2 months ago and am currently on one ship in the Academy. (I believe that two months is enough time to qualify this hypothetical new member to be involved as a voter/nominator/endorser/etc in the election.) This member has decided to vote in this election, but has no idea who anyone is in the club outside of those on their Academy ship, and no one running in this election is on their ship, that is, they know none of you from a bar of soap.

Could you share a bit about yourselves such as
1 where in the world you are from,
2 what role/s you currently play/perform in the club,
3 your favourite and least favourite roles in the club,
4 why you joined the club,
5 why you’ve stayed in the club for as long as you have been here, and
6 advice for a new role player to help them in their role playing,

This is to help this hypothetical new member get to know about you and the club.

Great set of questions to get the election kicked off, Russ! And for those who are pretty new here and reading this, welcome!

1. I’m from Wisconsin in the US and I’ve lived here my whole life. Quite a lovely place in any of the four seasons.

2. I’m currently the CO of Outpost 42. I’ve just slimmed down to having that be my only roleplaying character. While I don’t have any right at the moment, I’ve had a number of administrative roles in the club, most recently as Assistant Personnel Director. And if you joined STF about two months ago it’s very likely I was the first person here to e-mail you, as getting new members set up is part of what that department does.

3. As far as roleplaying goes the role I’ve enjoyed most is playing my counselor. I just stopped playing the character for now figuring I’d be distracted this month from roleplaying, but it was a blast. The character works quite hard at being as lazy as possible and it was so fun, especially on the Constellation, which is a comedy themed ship. I love getting the chance to mentor, and because that’s an interest of mine I’ve especially appreciated the admin roles I’ve had in the Academy.

4. I stumbled across this club completely by accident from a random search. Reading some great writing drew me here as did the notion that it could be a way to imagine being in the Star Trek story.

5. I love the community of people here. There’s plenty of people really worth befriending who are a part of it. That’s kept me here, as has how fun the roleplaying can be. I tend towards silly and fun sorts of writing, which can be very enjoyable.

6. My best piece of advise is not to forget to have fun. You don’t have to do everything perfectly right away. We’ll all here playing a game. Remember to enjoy it.
