Campaign HQ - Adam and Thomas - Staffing
This club is pretty amazing. It takes quite a bit of volunteer effort on a wide variety of fronts to make it happen. Fortunately there are some smaller and easier roles that are good entry points for people to get involved in. The structure of the club works, though challenges sometimes come in the limited resources that are available. Sometimes a member that used to be a reliable volunteer has their life get in the way and they can no longer do what they once did.
Sometimes a department or fleet can get by without being fully staffed, depending on the required workload. What I wouldn’t want to see as President is a department or fleet that isn’t getting the job done stay in that condition. For example, this past term the Personnel Department spent most to all of the term being operated by one or two people. It takes time (yes, it still does after the improvements Exodus brought) and responsiveness on the part of a team in order for that department to function well. It’s an example of the sort of situation the President needs to have visibility of and take action in response to (and there were actions the current President took in response to the example I brought up).
The President needs to keep an eye on the overall staffing situation of the fleets and departments. It’s also needed to make sure the members of the cabinet are aware of expectations and held accountable to meet them.
I’d lay out the following expectations for cabinet members during my term, and in this order.
- Have good judgment.
- Be present.
- Be competent.
In my mind it’s even more important for a cabinet member to display good judgment than it is for them to be present at all or to be competent at their role. Cabinet members at times have had poor judgment and as a result some members of the club have been treated unfairly. We need good discernment from those leading the parts of this club, and, more importantly, from those leading the entire club.
