Appearance:
Jethro is half-human and half-denobulan. His diamond-shaped face is framed by short trimmed light brown hair styled into a small pompadour in the front fading to short hair in the back. A pair of inquisitive and kind steel blue eyes sit on either side of a thin, short nose. A trimmed and clean 5 o’clock shadow always hugs his face. In the middle of his is a little offer center from a break his nose in his younger years. His body build is akin to that of a swimmer’s with a little more muscle filling a wide chest.

Personal History:

Years 0-8:
In the Year 2374, Erik Jethro Avant was born on the Federation starship U.S.S Lovelace to parents Cmdr. Ava Avant and Richard Avant while on a survey mission in the Beta Quadrant. His mother was the XO of the ship and his father was a civilian scientist attached to the starship to continue his research in quantum and atomic Manipulations and stimulations on bio-molecular matter. His father was also an additional medical hand for the ship to utilize if needed. Richard Avant was the 3rd and favorite husband of Ava Avant. The first eight years of Jethro’s life were centered around the life aboard the Lovelace. Both his parents were born on Earth, but the starship was home. Jethro and his parents visited Earth often as his mother’s leave would allow and often on solo trips with his father, but to him, it, Earth, or any planet was nothing more than fun shore leave. He decided from very early on that space was his home. From both parents, Jethro began to receive in-depth knowledge of starships. In the later years, Erik began to learn and help his father in his research in his free time.

Then everything changed.

When Jethro was eight, a routine cataloging mission took a turn for the worse when violent first contact surprised the Lovelace. During an Away-Mission, Cmdr. Ava Avant was killed in action, defending another member of her away team. After the situation was resolved, Richard Avant and his son left the Lovelace to spend time back on Earth mourning, spending time with family, and figuring out what to do next.

Years 9-17:
For the next four years, Jethro and his father would live with his father’s family in San Francisco, Earth. Richard Avant was able to find work through several civilian institutions to continue his private research and work in other studies. During this time, Jethro’s and his father’s relationship grew stronger and the two grew very close. However, while Jethro enjoyed living planet-side, he got antsy not being on a starship. This energy and thirst for excitement often lead to Jethro getting into trouble. When not working on his studies or helping his father, Jethro often hung around Starfleet Headquarters and Academy. He would study, watch, and often talk to any personnel he could and enjoyed hearing stories. On a few occasions, he was able to sneak past the security of the Academy to try out holodeck training simulations and view the action of the Academy up close. Being a kid and his actions harmless, Jethro usually got off on a warning or low-level punishment. Richard would often excuse these adventures, seeing much of Ava in his son.

Through his studies and continued help with his father’s work, Jethro showed an aptitude and enjoyment in the medical. Following closely in his father’s footsteps, Jethro’s interest focused more on the practical application of his father’s research. His thoughts and studies focus on how to safely develop an array of medical technologies that could heal the body on the quantum and atomic levels.

In 2382 Richard Avant was approached by Starfleet to head a research study on a grouping of stellar phenomena on the edge of Federation space in the Alpha quadrant that was emitting unusual radiation affecting the life in the region in interesting ways. Finally, Jethro would be heading back into the stars. Over the following years, he and his father would transfer from starship to out-post to star base and so on as Richard Avant’s team’s study progressed. Faced with my new sites and faces, Jethro would encounter many adventures and many sticky situations. On one such outpost, he and a group of friends would find themselves in a fight with some Talarian youth whose families and orders had also found themselves on the same planet for research. The group of Talarians had been tormenting a group of native children and Jethro had to step in. Conflicting ideals clashed and a fight broke out. The fight was only stopped by a Talarian commander and Erik’s father interceding. This led to a bit of tension between the Federation research team and the Talarians. Jethro walked away from the fight with a broken nose, which he set naturally himself, a few cracked ribs, and a bruised collarbone.

It was clear that the death of his mother had left an imprint on him to intervene where could to protect and help people.

A year later, in his 16th year, Jethro got into another fight, this time with the Breen. Breen Privateers raided the research outpost, and like always, instead of following instructions, Jethro charged into action. He helped security officers push off the raid, but in the process received a puncture wound to the lower intestine.

Jethro’s aptitude for medical knowledge allowed him to fight without doing bodily harm to his combatants. Despite his knack for getting into sticky situations, Erik has an aversion to any weapon other then a stun setting on a phaser.

Years 18- Current:
In 2394, Jethro submitted his first application for entrance into Starfleet Academy. However, despite his test results and his mother’s Starfleet record, Erik Jethro Avant was denied admission into the Academy. The admission board stated in their refusal that Jethro’s “cowboy attitude” and “recklessness” were “more fitted for a Starfleet Officer of the 22nd or 23rd centuries, not the 24th.” With this rejection, Jethro and his father looked into other colleges and institutes for him to enter. In the same year, Jethro was accepted for studies at the Daystrom Research Institute in a multi-track in Bio-molecular Systems and Quantum mechanics. In the proceeding four ears, Jethro kept himself relatively out of trouble as he proceeded with his studies and research at Daystrom. Jethro enjoyed his time in Okinawa and finally got used to living planet-side. During his time with the Institute, Jethro was able to continue his research and curiosity into the quantum and atomic science applications in healing.

After his studies concluded at Daystrom in 2398, Jethro reapplied for admission into Starfleet Academy. This time he was accepted. In the same year, he entered the Medical Academy on a track to become a doctor, focusing on the atomic nature and structure of amino acids and DNA. During his three years, Jethro was an exemplary cadet…well except for a few minor infractions noted in his record. His over-enthusiastic passion for his field led him to often use the medical research labs during unscheduled times. Jethro got an infraction for hacking and duplicating a lab computer in his dorm room for running personal simulations on atomic manipulation for DNA reconstruction. However, despite these infractions, Cadet Erik Jethro Avant was successfully able to make it to his current and final portion of his studies, an assignment on board the training ship, U.S.S. Challenger.
