“I once sent an away team to an uninhabited class M planet, which should have gone without an issue. Turns out, the planet has natural defenses we were not aware of, and the crew we sent got struck with some sort of unknown disease that the transporters couldn’t remove, so they were stuck there. They died a few days later. It was also my suggestion that got an away team sent down there. It was hard to deal with at the time, but everyone on that team volunteered to go down, and none of us knew about the plant life was sentient and didn’t appreciate visitors,” Torias said. “But hey, when your dealing with killer plants, there’s not exactly anything in the instruction manual of a starfleet officer in dealing with that sort of thing,” he said with a small smile. It was obviously something he had put past him and accepted, but remembered. The way he talked about it suggested it was at least a few years ago.

Lieutenant (J.G) Torias Paron, CoS

Kaylee smiled softly as she listened to Paron handle the cadet’s response with amazing aptitude. “That’s very well said, Lieutenant,” she commented appreciatively. “And killer plants is precisely why I went into counseling, not security.” She added a small wink to the end, hoping that the others understood that she was not making light of the situation. “Every choice you make as an individual, both inside Starfleet and outside, is your own… no one can control you that way,” she reiterated to Corvax. “While you both made a poor decision to engage in a game, your friend made the choice to perform something dangerous. That was his choice and his alone. What you can take from it is to consider your actions more carefully in the future.” Her tone softened the firm words to the young cadet.

Cmdr Adrie, XO

“He didn’t make the choice of doing something dangerous. My dare wasn’t dangerous in anyway ,it became dangerous the moment he saw me as a freak....” he said as his anxiety started to kick in. ” I’m sorry....I need to go…I need time to think for a bit…if your dont mind....” he said as he went to get up.

Cadet Dominic Cyris Corvax-Doctor

Kaylee frowned slightly and rested a hand on Corvax’s arm to stop him for a moment. “The same words hold true, Cadet. We’re responsible for our own actions and unless you picked up a phaser and shot your friend, you are not responsible for whatever he chose to do.” Despite her hair literally being let down for the moment, she was still both a trained counselor and first officer of the ship. “Have you seem Commander Harper-Ryan yet?”

Cmdr Adrie, XO

Dominic couldn’t bring himself to make eye contact with her when she stopped him and shook his head as he listened to her before responding”no I haven’t paid her a visit since I arrived.....”

Cadet Dominic Cyris Corvax-Doctor

Paron nodded slightly and said as an off the cuff comment, “Don’t delay it, it makes things worse. Your going to have to speak with her at some point. It’s rare for someone to enjoy the psychological examinations, but they are important,” he replied, with his more serious than friendly tone.

Lieutenant (J.G) Torias Paron, CoS

“And she’s just wonderful to chat with,” Kaylee added to Paron’s comment. “Even though it’s required, it’s still very helpful if there is anything you need to work through with someone who is impartial and wants what’s best for you. I won’t make it an order for now, but I expect you to see her promptly.” Her tone was still soft and kind, but a slight firmness had edged its way into it.

Cmdr Adrie, XO

Dominic nodded”i should go see her now so I dont put it off to long.....” he said calmly after taking a deep calming breathe” I should head right over then commander.....thank you for helping me to the best of your ability.”

Cadet Dominic Cyris Corvax-Doctor

Kaylee gave Corvax a kind look and waved him on, unsure what he meant by the best of her ability. Turning back to the others that still remained, she flagged a server and requested a glass of real red wine this time. Giving them a rueful grin, she commented, “so, how about that archery?”

Cmdr Adrie, XO

“Well, it gave me an idea of what their aim is like. It’s good to see what they can do when they don’t have the technology of phasers helping them,” Paron responded. “Things have gotten a lot easier, and well - I got to see what the cadets’ aim was like and I was relatively impressed. I should be able to check off their last stage of phaser training, once we do the proper final exam on that with them,” he answered.

“Wasn’t my idea - one of the cadets started it up, but I took the opportunity to evaluate their performance,” Paron smiled with a cheeky grin. “A lesson of opportunity for the cadets,” he added casually.

Lieutenant (J.G) Torias Paron, CoS

“And for you,” Kaylee observed with a grin. “But I wholly approve of training being rolled into a more enjoyable experience. Maybe I’ll join you next time, it’s been a while since I’ve held the business end of anything.” She winked as she finished her statement and surveyed the group. “Well, as fun as this has been, I think it’s about time for me to get some sleep. You all probably should too; I don’t want to hear any yawning on the bridge tomorrow.”

Cmdr Adrie, XO

“I was thinking it’s about time to leave, have a good evening,” Paron nodded as he stood up, “and I’ll see you later,” he said as he made his exit from Nine Forward.
