Having completed all of her necessary boarding tasks, Kate stalked into the security office and looked around.

“You!” she demanded, staring at a Betazoid security cadet that was in front of her. “Report.”

“Cadet Barvan reporting as ordered ma’am!” the Betazoid would reflexively say, whipping his hand up in a military salute as he did.

Kate left the cadet at attention as she slowly surveyed him up and down. Well, he didn’t look like too much of a disaster on the surface, she mused to herself. She’d have to see what was going on inside his brain, though.

“At ease, Cadet,” she finally responded crisply.

Barvan would comply, clearly softening his posture.

“I am Lieutenant Trent, the new Chief of Security. Please update me on the status of the ship.”

“We have several issues going on right now. First and foremost is the investigation on some sort of disappeared crate going on in the cargo hold. I was there a few moments a ago to monitor a forensic telepathy procedure. We also have a distress signal that’s coming in from a prospector ship that crashed into another ship. Moreover, only two moments ago, I was giving a telepathy class on the Holodeck. That’s all I have to report, ma’am.”
