Having completed all of her necessary boarding tasks, Kate stalked into the security office and looked around.

“You!” she demanded, staring at a Betazoid security cadet that was in front of her. “Report.”

“Cadet Barvan reporting as ordered ma’am!” the Betazoid would reflexively say, whipping his hand up in a military salute as he did.

Kate left the cadet at attention as she slowly surveyed him up and down. Well, he didn’t look like too much of a disaster on the surface, she mused to herself. She’d have to see what was going on inside his brain, though.

“At ease, Cadet,” she finally responded crisply. “I am Lieutenant Trent, the new Chief of Security. Please update me on the status of the ship.”
