The last two weeks had been a blur as final details, tests, walkthroughs, and the like culminated in the USS Curie, NCC 74329-A, final shake down approached.
The plan was to run the ship at impulse while in the Kirn system, then do a series of four warp jumps to test the warp engines. Meanwhile the other Departments would be doing various routine ships systems operations to ensure everything worked before they left on their mission.

Ander’s first impressions of the Curie had only confirmed his worst fears. The ship had been moved from one category of mothballs to the next, with more and more components stripped from her hull each time. Finally she had been laid to rest in a surplus depot to await scrapping. The task of reactivating her had proven to be daunting. Components were cannibalised from her sisters the Dalton and Volta, while Ander used his connections with the Advanced Starship Design Bureau to secure the critical mission module they required from storage. The engineer had been working double shifts, crawling through jefferies tubes and getting his hands dirty. The work had awakened his passion, and despite his exhaustion he was starting to admire the old girl. He climbed out of an access hatch and walked onto the bridge, carrying a well worn toolkit.
“Okay, let’s try it again,” he said. He sat on the floor next to the bulkhead and opened the toolkit beside him.
“Aye sir,” the NE at the conn replied. He tapped his panel and shook his head. “Still no response.” Ander nodded and grabbed a dynoscanner from his kit. He pulled a few isolinear chips from the bank and scanned them one by one.
“Okay, we’ll try a programmed reload of the course tracking element. We’ll start with the inertial navigation system.” The NE nodded and Ander slid the first chip in. “Begin initialization,” he said.
