“Definitely think it was you. But if you will excuse me, I do have some other matters to attend to. I’m sure the Lieutenant would be more then happy to answer any of your questions.”

LtCmdr Foley - XO

Kate glared at the XO as he attempted to make his exit. It quite clearly came across as an attempt to pawn the man off on her and, while she didn’t mind, precisely… she added a grin to soften the glare and nodded at him. “Commander.”

Trent, SOO

Once the XO was out of earshot Simon spoke.

“Well he’s a charming fellow,” Simon said casually, “So, Strategic Operations Officer? Have you worked with Ben before?”

Kate mentally grimaced that she hadn’t managed to make an escape with Foley. Oh well, this seemed like it would fall under part of the job of being involved in the various information sources on the starbase.

“I haven’t,” she replied, simply. “Have you? What’s your interest in him?”

Trent, SOO

“My interest is purely professional,” Simon replied, “He’s a Starfleet Captain that is married to a high up Admiral in the diplomatic corp. Not only would my readers be interested in his affairs, of which there are many, he is on friendly terms with a number of ambassadors. Long and short, he and his associates are a source of news.”

-Simon

Kate’s eyebrow shot up as she listened to Simon’s response. While she had been tangentially aware of the captain’s personal background, she hadn’t quite connected what a significant impact it could have on his career – more importantly, it also made him a target. She shook her head slightly, nudging those thoughts to the side as she focused on the comments by the reporter. “It seems like you might want to keep your interest strictly to his professional business too,” she commented back, her tone still light but slightly more firm. “We have officers who would be more than happy to speak to you about any news, through official channels.”

Trent, SOO

Chandel entered the docking area just as the alarms started sounding and orders came over the comm system advising all civilian personnel to return to their quarters or the nearest evacuation center. She spotted the SOO and what was obviously a civilian talking and made her way over.
“We are clearing the decks, Lieutenant and civilians have been ordered either to their quarters or to an evacuation center if they don’t have them. ” She would have been more specific with the SOO but with the civilian standing there she wasn’t sure if she should be.

Counselor Chandel

Kate’s features brightened slightly at the appearance of the counselor, who she had enjoyed meeting during her boarding evaluation. “Understood, Counselor.” She redirected her attention to the journalist. “To your quarters or to an evacuation center,” she commented. “Your choice.” Her tone was still pleasant, although a slight bit of firmness had crept in now as she presented the choice to Simon. It wasn’t much of a choice, to be honest, because if he didn’t make one quickly, she’d chose a place for him. To be honest, she wasn’t quite sure if he had quarters on the starbase…

Trent, SOO

“A Source of news and you expect me to sit in my quarters?” the South African asked, “How about I do my job? I’ll stand in a quiet corner in ops, and I promise not to release any of the story until you have personally previewed and cleared it?”

Simon pondered, “At least if I’m in ops, you can keep an eye on me.”
