Ben considerred how he worded his response. He had no doubt that the Counsellor would be aware of what his father had done if she had read through his file.

“It took a long while for my father to be brought to justice,” Ben replied, “That’s the nature of the legal system. Until JAG caught up with him, they were both concerned that I was a target and that I would take matters into my own hands. They didn’t know me well - assumed I am like my father but I am not. If I had taken matters into my own hands, I’d have become him, which I didn’t want.”

“Indeed it was not fair to penalize you for his actions. I am glad that you were strong enough to retain your own personality, Captain. It is why you are the man you are today. Do you still have a relationship with your father today?” Chandel asked her deep eyes showing her compassion for what he had gone through.

Counselor Chandel

“No,” the CO replied bluntly, “I will never go visit him. He wanted me out of his life, he’s got it.”

“That is unfortunate for both of you.” Chandel said and backed off that aspect of her queries.”It seems to me that you have overcome any unfortunate stigma from your father’s actions. That is a credit to your hard work, Captain.”

Counselor Chandel

“As they say, ‘time and tide wait for no man’ If you want something you have to work hard and show others you can be trusted with what you want,” Ben replied.

“Indeed, it is a path we must all take. Thank you, Captain for coming in, I have very much enjoyed getting to know you.” Chandel said as their allotted hour wound down and she rose to walk the Captain out.”Remember, sir that I am always here if you need a sounding board. A Captain rarely has enough of those.”

Counselor Chandel

“Nor do counsellors,” Ben replied, “If you need someone to talk to, my door is always open. I may not be a counsellor, but I can listen.”

Chandel smiled feeling a genuine liking for the man himself that the Captain was behind his uniform.”Noted, sir. I very much look forward to working with you and welcome to the Magellan.”
