Kaden was surprised by the reaction of the doctor. He then responded, “No, I am just fine. Feel really good. I am new to the Magellan. I had to take a few extra minutes to come down after speaking with my superior officer. I apologize for coming in so late. I am just here to handle my medical exam for joining a new ship. Is there anything you would like to know?” He then waited for an answer.

“Don’t apologize, Ensign. I prefer evening appointments–they’re less chaotic and rushed than during the day shift. Funny how that works.” Nisihe shrugged, retrieving a medical scanner from the biobed’s accompanying table. “Oh, but one for beginning: What is your name?” She couldn’t do much unless she had a name to work off of…paperwork-wise.

Kaden then responded, “My name is Kaden Buchana. I am a new security Ensign joining the Magellan. Nice to meet you”

“Kaden..Buchanan..” Nisihe muttered to herself as she pulled up his file. “Ah! There you are.” She smiled. “Welcome to the Magellan, Ensign. My name’s Dr. Nisihe Odraavi, in case that matters.”

Once she had his name, she adjusted her stance to seem formal. “Pardon me, while I go through the mundane: Have you contracted any illnesses or been in the presence of diseased individuals in the last fourteen days?”

Kaden laughed inside as this was an interesting question but then responded, “No ma’am. I am feel extremely great and just excited to get started on the Magellan. I am pretty sure one of the ports I left on would have noticed if I was sick and not allow me to leave.” He was still chuckling inside at the very odd question but he assumed it was normal. But then he thought he had to remember to never assume.

“I don’t know about that.. sometimes they can get a tad lenient. I’ve had more than my fair share of people arrive with some kind of bug in their system.” Odraavi shrugged, “To be fair, in most cases they weren’t obviously sick.”

“Any abnormal aches, changes in appetite, mood or general wellbeing in that same timeframe?” She added, once the previous question was answered.

“No ma’am. The only mode changes I have is the excitement but that is expected with anything new.” He then waited to see if the doctor needed anything else.

“Good to hear! And please, call me ‘Doctor’ or ‘Odraavi’.. anything but ‘ma’am,’ it makes me feel old.” She wrinkled her nose, shaking her head. “All right.. just a quick scan, a height and weight check, and you’ll be out of here!”

Odraavi pulled out the medical scanner, waving it before Kaden’s body in search of any ailments lying beneath the surface.
