The initial answer that came to mind was ‘not really’, but she was sitting here with a fractured hand and crying in front of the CMO. “My mother died seven months ago and if that wasn’t hard enough, they can’t tell us anything about her death because it’s classified. And someone decided it was a good idea to test how sensitive I was about the matter. It was either hit the wall after they left or end up in the brig,” she said tensely. “Though it might be a bad thing so early on here.”

Odraavi nodded, considering her words, for a second. “You aren’t wrong, to be angry. It shouldn’t be the right of anyone’s to inhibit you from know the information regarding your own mother’s death.” She offered a smile, in hopes of lightening the situation a bit, for the young operations chief. “But, Hey. At least you chose to release all hell on the wall, and not the opposing officer? That takes rationality, eh?”

Avalise shook her head. “It would have been career suicide. There are just certain things as a Starfleet officer that I’ve had to accept, but as a daughter it’s so much harder some days. But yes, better a trip to the Infirmary than the brig any day.”

“I could say that it will get easier, but I see no point in lying to you, Ms. Rendana. At this point, it would seem such an untruth would be useless to you.” Odraavi shook her head, choosing not to console about something she didn’t have experience in or understood.

“How’s my hand anyway? Any lasting damage I need to worry about?” Rendana asked, lifting her chin a bit in an attempt to claw back some dignity.

“Your hand is fine. I would suggest using it less, for about a day. After that, you can return to the same usage you had, once before. It wasn’t a detrimental injury, so you should be fine.”

She shook her head and sighed as she let the doctor finish her work. “Just great. My dominant hand too. Will make work so much fun,” Avalise said dryly and then exhaled. “Oh, well, guess that’s what I have junior officers for,” she added with a bare hint of a smirk.
