“As I stated, Captain, I am a nomadic trader. And we only have this one ship. We deal with information and trading, but of course, the price is pretty high for stellar information, unless it’s limited to a small area of space. I only intend to use the data you provide to chart a course for the next 5 sectors… assuming you can provide data that far. If, you wish to limit your data to a specific route we can safely journey to the next… 10 sectors towards the next quadrant of space, I’d consider that a fair trade,” said Mr. Melnorm.
GM
After being cleared for duty, the XO was advised to take a day or two to physically recover from his ordeal. Commander Erin wasn’t too keen on leaving his post vacant for a day let alone two days, so he made his way to the Bridge. A few hours won’t hurt The First Officer thought to himself as he approached the turbolift.
“Bridge.” Bryson called out as he stepped into the lift. Since the Wolverine was a tiny ship, it didn’t take long for the doors to open and reveal the situation in front of him. The Commander took a quick look at the viewscreen and then the Captain before taking up position at Operations.
XO
As Bryson exited the lift, Remy turned slightly, and a brief smile came across his face as it appeared his XO was back on his feet. “Welcome back, Mr. Erin.”
The CO turned back to the viewscreen and began explaining the limits of the Wolverine’s scanning equipment.
OOC: Need some help here. I am terrible with geomtery. Brazen class specs state the a high resolution scan has a range of 3.11 light years, while a low res scan has a range of 11 light years. So, my guess is we could scan approximately 1/2 sector per day (according to Memory Alpha’s sector size)). but we would have records of what sectors we travelled through to get to this point, correct?_
Boudreaux (CO)
OOC: The sensors were upgraded and Wells added additional astrometric like sensors much like Voyager to the ship. You’d have records of the scans of the sectors you traveled at every stop the ship made and during transwarp travel. But not at slipstream travel.
GM
“Your sensor technology is still greater than my current capabilities and I sense an unwillingness to trade technology, so whatever stellar cartography data for my data on this anomaly I have plus the water, and we have a deal Captain,” said Mr. Melnorm.
GM
Remy considered Melnorme’s words. Technically, by sharing a “road map” of their recent travels through the Gamma Quadrant, he wasn’t breaking the Prime Directive. He was only providing information such as any traveler might with another. Plus, they were given pretty much free reign to do what they needed to get the Underspace info.
Remy turnedwith his back to the screen for all the good it might do. To Bryson he said, “Your toughts?” Hoping his XO had heard enough to offer an opinion.
Boudreaux (CO)
There were so many thoughts running through the XO’s mind; would this traveler have gotten this information from someone else if the Wolverine wasn’t there, what would he use this information for, and what would happen to him once he reached the destination? Obviously, this wouldn’t cross the prime directive because he could have gotten it from someone else.
“I think we would be able to allow the trade, Captain.” Bryson stated at last. “Even if it were to cross the line, the info he’d give us would outweigh the consequences of any small change in the timeline.”
XO
“He did say he is a nomadic trader, sir,” said an NE, “One must wonder how far he actually roams.”
Remy nodded to the NE, taking his input into account. “I’m guessine not too far yet, if he’s lookine for informa-SHON in nearby sectors.”
“I don’t believe that is true, sir. His ship has indications of galactic radiation… I think he is from another galaxy,” said the NE at Science.
The CSO’s voice came through at that moment. =/\= CSO to Bridge. Captain, we need to decontaminate the ship as a whole. We have developed a plan of sorts for that. Engineering will set up field generators in the cargo bays. We can put all personnel there while we run a baryon sweep through the ship. While that happens, we can use the inoculation on the crew to either hep protect them or treat them as is necessary. Once the sweep is done, we can release the crew and then run the baryon sweep through the cargo bays. With your permission, Captain, we need to get his done as soon as we can. =/\=
Ahearn, CSO
GM
Some good news finally, but at the wrong time. =^=Very well, Mr. Ahearn, begin makine de prepara-SHONS.=^=
The CO turned back to the screen and Melnorm. Nodding his head, he added =^=Very well, Mr. Melnorm. I can agree to dose terms.=^=
Boudreaux (CO)
As Remy spoke, a lanky figure entered towards the back of the bridge. Anyone paying attention would easily recognize the man by his grey security agency coat. Crossing his arms, he made sure to stay quiet while the Captain spoke with what appeared to be the commander of an independent vessel.
“Good, good. The data I have is quite extensive, so I will prepare a data module for your crew to pick up. You can transmit your data whenever you are ready,” said Mr. Melnorm.
GM
Listening in on the statements, the man in grey rose an eyebrow. What kind of deal had the captain struck with this stranger from the past.
LT. Mado (FSA)
“Preparing the data for send off, Captain.” Bryson stated his position. “Once we retrieve his data, I’ll begin sending over what we have.” The Commander gave a quick glance towards Mado. Cmdr. Erin didn’t have a clue on why the Federation felt the need to send him. Bryson needed to introduce himself, but at another time.
XO
=^=I am ‘avine a shuttle prepared to bring you de water, an’ my second is collating de data you requested. It will be ready for transmi-SHON in a few moments. Is dere anytine else I can do fo’ you, mon ami?”
Boudreaux (CO)
=/\= No, Captain, but be advised we have strict quarantine procedures on my vessel for all incoming and outgoing cargo. My vessel and our crew travel many places, and we do not wish any accidental exposure. Your crew members will not be permitted to disembark their craft. A robot will be sent to retrieve the cargo. =/\=
GM
“That would be wise..” The Commander thought to himself. Bryson certainly didn’t want anyone to endure the virus they’ve just gone through. The XO looked down as an alert appeared on the dashboard of his console.
“Of course, dat is completely understandable. Nor would I want to infect my new acquaintances wit’ sometine was mistakenly brought from our home. Sometine you may ‘ave been exposed to before. Dat is always a danger in meetine someone fo’ de first time.”
“We are ready to receive your data, Captain,” said Mr. Melnorm.
“It appears they’ve began the data transfer, Captain.” He said, alerting the CO.
XO
“Let me know when de transfer is complete, Mr. Erin.”
The FSA officer remained at the back of the bridge. A slight scowl crossed his face. A data transfer to century’s old explorer. For now all he could do was continue to observe.
Lt. Mado (FSA)
“Can I help you, sir?” asked an NE at the Operations station.
GM
The left side of Mado’s lip curled up in agitation. He turned and sized up the NE. Squinting ever so slightly, he responded: “I am here to see the Captain, but I understand he is conducting.... business at the moment.” With that the officer turned back to face the view screen.
LT. Mado (FSA - Making Friends)
“It is a pleasure conducting business with you, Captain,” said Mr. Melnorm. The view screen shut off.
Contacting the shuttle bay, Remy gave the order. He caught sight of Mado from the corner of his eye and thought to himself Babysitter.
=^=Mr. McGarvey, you may begin transportine de water.=^=
Boudreaux (CO)
GM
Just as the shuttle began to leave the bay, another alert appeared on Bryson’s console. “It appears that the data transfer is complete, and I’ll be sending it to science for analysis.” Commander Erin hoped the data map was correct, otherwise run the risk of having to encounter another passerby.
XO
Remy nodded to Erin. “Dat was painless enough. Let’s ‘ope de rest goes as smooth.”
After the comm was done with Melnorme, the viewscreen switched to an exterior view showing the shuttle moving toward the trading vessel.
