The trader looked unusual… He had a large singular eye and from a certain angle, you might mistake the alien as a large comfortable chair… Save for the eye in the middle of Mr. Melnorm’s face (which would be where one would lean their back upon).

Remy had to admit, he was expecting someone much more humanoid in appearance. Still, he kept the charm turned on.

“Judging from your appearance, you do not seem to be from this area. Frankly, neither am I. Sufficient to say, I’m passing through but I’m always interested in biological data, and stellar data as well. I do dabble in the local commodities but not very often. I do offer information, if that is what you seek or goods, if that is what you wish to purchase.”

GM

“You are correct, we are no’ from dis area. We come from a place where we ‘ave a large availability of a resource dat dis sector of space severely lacks. An’ like yourself, I know de value of important informa-SHON an’ dat is what I seek, mon ami.”

Boudreaux (CO)

Mr. Melnorm eyed Boudreaux suspiciously. “I should warn you Captain, my species has slight telepathic abilities… and I can tell that your last statement isn’t completely truthful. While I can detect large quantities of water on your ship, which is what I assume is what you are referring to, I can also visually see that something is strange about your ship. My species’ eye has the ability to look at different wavelengths of light. What I can tell is that your ship’s outer hull seems rather unusual to me. I don’t know why, but it does.”

Remy’s smile never wavered as he replied. “I am beine as honest as I can be at this time. As we are new to dis sector, we ‘ave taken certain precau-SHONS to protect ourseles. I ‘ope you can inderstan’ dat. Our cargo is precious in dis area of space. But, I am beine 100 percent truthful when I say I would like a trade for some informa-SHON.”

Boudreaux (CO)

“Omission is suitable, Captain, and I’ll allow it once. While I understand your security and privacy concerns, I urge you not to repeat the same mistakes again. Otherwise, I shall be forced to terminate our transactions immediately. Fair trading is all about trust, Captain. In regards to the information, what is it you seek exactly?”

GM

Remy kept his mind clear in regards to the veiled threat from Melnorme. This was, after all, a negotiation. “Merci. I appreciate you’ willingness to cooperate, sir.”

The CO sat back down in the center chair. Here it was, make or break time. “I am goine to lay my cards on de table, Mr. Melnorm. Are you aware of a people in dis sector called de Vaadwaur/”

“Shrouded in mystery and in rumor, they are,” replied Melnorm, “Many alien races talk about demons of air and darkness… And from the data I have gathered so far, they seem to match the Vaadwaur. They are slowly making a lot of enemies – ones who would wish to stop the Vaadwaur.”

“Where we re from, we ‘ave heard rumors dat de Vaadwaur use a system for dere ships to travel a great distance in a relatively short period of time. But we’ve also heard de Vaadwaur are a very hostile species an’ very protective of dis system. As a trader you’self, I am sure you understand de importance of ‘aving access to dis system of transport?”

Boudreaux (CO)

“Indeed! Actually, the other day my ship encountered something like that, but something forced me out into normal space almost immediately. I had traveled a hundred light years in a fraction of a second,” said Mr. Melnorm, “And judging from your expression, such information would be of great value to you?”

GM

Remy tried to remain calm, but his reeaction betrayed him. This was the information they were looking for. “Yes, it is, mon ami. An’ I am more dan willine to negotiate a barter price for any informa-SHOm which you can share. Right now, I have a shuttle full of 50 gallons or fresh water to deliver to you if de you are willing to share..”

Boudreaux (CO)

“50 gallons of fresh water is not enough for this information. I intend to travel outside this sector of space but I lack proper information. I don’t suppose, Captain, you have any information like that?” said Mr. Melnorm, “My trader instinct is telling me you have the means to at least provide me with information about a longer range scan of the next sector at least… in addition to that water.”

GM

OOC: Shoot, 50 gallons was a typo. Should have been 500. Can we edit that to say 500? I can always say the 50 was an opening bid as well/ Sorry about that. –Terry

OOC: Either way, Melnorm knows that something is strange with you – and even if you were to offer 500 gallons of water, it’s something Mr. Melnorm might not want to carry.

GM

“Per’aps 50 gallons is too few, but I ‘ad to start somewhere. Now it is up to you to make a counter offer. As for informa-SHON on de next sector, I ‘ave no doubt we are able to get more sensitive readines dan you’ ship. It may take some time to do so, say a day or so, but I can provide dat informa-SHON to you.”

Boudreaux (CO)

“50 gallons of water is likely all my ship can hold, Captain, unless you can offer something more valuable that might be useful in a different sector of space. I deal with more in information than I do with goods. I would be open to trading to information exclusively… whether that is biological data or stellar data for the information you seek,” said Mr. Melnorm.

GM

“I am aware of de scarcity of fresh water in dis sector. I would still like to offer some to you, say, as a sign of good fait’ and newfound friendships. As for stellar informa-SHON, I would be ‘appy to share wit’ you some of de areas of space we ‘ave covered and recorded from our stellar cartography department.”

“If we can come to an agreement and share dis data, I ‘ave one request of you. Dat you do no’ use dis informa-SHON for ‘ostile or aggressive ac-SHONS against any of you’ neighbors, please?”

Boudreaux (CO)

“As I stated, Captain, I am a nomadic trader. And we only have this one ship. We deal with information and trading, but of course, the price is pretty high for stellar information, unless it’s limited to a small area of space. I only intend to use the data you provide to chart a course for the next 5 sectors… assuming you can provide data that far. If, you wish to limit your data to a specific route we can safely journey to the next… 10 sectors towards the next quadrant of space, I’d consider that a fair trade,” said Mr. Melnorm.

After being cleared for duty, the XO was advised to take a day or two to physically recover from his ordeal. Commander Erin wasn’t too keen on leaving his post vacant for a day let alone two days, so he made his way to the Bridge. A few hours won’t hurt The First Officer thought to himself as he approached the turbolift.

“Bridge.” Bryson called out as he stepped into the lift. Since the Wolverine was a tiny ship, it didn’t take long for the doors to open and reveal the situation in front of him. The Commander took a quick look at the viewscreen and then the Captain before taking up position at Operations.

XO

As Bryson exited the lift, Remy turned slightly, and a brief smile came across his face as it appeared his XO was back on his feet. “Welcome back, Mr. Erin.”

The CO turned back to the viewscreen and began explaining the limits of the Wolverine’s scanning equipment.

OOC: Need some help here. I am terrible with geomtery. Brazen class specs state the a high resolution scan has a range of 3.11 light years, while a low res scan has a range of 11 light years. So, my guess is we could scan approximately 1/2 sector per day (according to Memory Alpha’s sector size)). but we would have records of what sectors we travelled through to get to this point, correct?_

Boudreaux (CO)

OOC: The sensors were upgraded and Wells added additional astrometric like sensors much like Voyager to the ship. You’d have records of the scans of the sectors you traveled at every stop the ship made and during transwarp travel. But not at slipstream travel.

GM

“Your sensor technology is still greater than my current capabilities and I sense an unwillingness to trade technology, so whatever stellar cartography data for my data on this anomaly I have plus the water, and we have a deal Captain,” said Mr. Melnorm.
