J’molla noticed that particular smile whenever Flynn wanted to change the subject. Perhaps human’s found it engaging. “Tell me about this old scrap.” He was good at his job and knew that something about their conversation had made him remember that something from a long time ago.

N Lt. Cmdr. J’molla Khommrarc, CNS

“I’m not sure what there really is to tell,” Flynn leaned back stretching his legs out in front of him and folded his arms “I punched someone, they punched me, we fought.”

He smirked “I won,”

J’molla leaned back and nodded, “What did you fight about? What started it?”

N Lt. Cmdr. J’molla Khommrarc, CNS

Fraiser’s eye twitched, but his smooth smile stayed on. “Sh-he. He,” Fraiser quickly corrected himself, “Threatened my younger brother,” It wasn’t a lie, he was referring to a fight he had had, it just wasn’t what he believed J’molla was asking about, “If it had been one of my older brothers I wouldn’t have cared, but Bryan, he’s soft. Mother coddled him too much when we were growing up,”

“He wanted Bryan to cough up money for protection,” Friaser scoffed, “Can you believe it? I showed him Bryan didn’t need it.”

Lt. j.g. Fraiser Flynn, Security

The slip of the tongue and the twitch of the eye didn’t miss J’molla’s notice “She? Who was she?” Khommrarc would come back to the rest of that after.

N Lt. Cmdr. J’molla Khommrarc, CNS

“Freudian slip. Have you heard the term?” He continued without giving Khommrarc a chance to reply, “It’s when you say one thing but mean a mother.”

The ridges on his brow went up and there was a smirk. Was that another ‘Freudian slip’ or was the man’s humor so unrefined as it was on purpose? J’molla knew that Fraiser thought he was quite funny and charming to everyone.

“Which in this case was some thugs that tried to go after my brother. They think that just because they run a rundown bar that they could do what they liked. It’s not what my mother dreamed of when she got the bar, but she’s never managed to make enough to be able to afford to turn it into what she dreamed it would be.”

“I send most of what I make to her, anything I don’t need. It’s not like I have a family of my own. I don’t even have a girlfriend.”

Lt. j.g Fraiser Flynn, Security

“That is honorable of you, to support your family.” He glanced down at his PaDD, not that he needed to, but to give a small pause before looking up and speaking again, “But you did.”

N Lt. Cmdr. J’molla Khommrarc, CNS

“Someone had to step up and be the man since my older brothers are useless,” ‘

Flynn’s gut twisted, there was a brief unrecognisable emotion that appeared into his eyes then he gave his usual charming smile, “I did. I could have another one if I wanted to, plenty really. The attention is nice,” he smirked, “but they’re all the same. Clones. So, I just do the gentlemanly thing and indulge them for a drink or a dinner or two and then leave it at that.”

Lt. j.g. Fraiser Flynn, Security

Khommrarc didn’t buy the charm for a minute. “How do you manage to actually operate in life, Lt? Everyone is useless to you. You must be extremely exceptional to see everyone as no more than ants or really slugs beneath your notice.”

N Lt. Cmdr. J’molla Khommrarc, CNS

“I appreciate the compliment Counselor, but I am humble enough to know I’m not exceptional.” He smirked, “Just pretty close to it,” he chuckled. He was joking, although with how confident and arrogant he was it could easily be misinterpreted as more arrogance. “If I was exceptional, I’d be a Captain by now, but I’m not James T. Kirk. One day I will be but not yet.”

His voice became quieter like a rumble before a storm. “I don’t think everyone is beneath me. Whatever you think of me, there are people that I respect or care about and even love.”

Lt. j.g. Fraiser Flynn, Security

“And who are those people?” J’molla asked.

N Lt. Cmdr. J’molla Khommrarc, CNS

“My father,” Fraiser didn’t even have to think about it, the words rolling as naturally as a wave on the shoreline. “I want to become an Admiral like he was but I’m going to do even better than he did. There is also Captain Sinclair, he is inspiration and he was able to help me control my temper even better than I already was. I would have got there eventually but he made the progress much faster. Those are two men I respect.”

“And I do love my mother. She’s had it hard raising four boys and running a business. Even if that business is shoddy, and my brothers are pathetic lowlifes. Bryan is a complete wet blanket and the other two are selfish, arrogant jerks. At least one of us turned out well,” despite the scathing tone in his voice he did love his brothers. Bryan especially brought out his protective instincts. It was something he would never admit to, because it was something he didn’t know himself.

Khommrarc found it interesting, but not surprising, that everyone Flynn mentioned was also degraded before he finished. His father was great, but not as much as me. Sinclair helped but I didn’t need his help. His mother he loved and had it hard, but her business was failing and she failed as a mother because his brothers were pathetic. Was there anyone in Flynn’s life that he truly had only good things to say about?

Elaine crept into his thoughts. He thought of soft smile like a warm blanket on a cold day. Her brow furrowed deep in thought as she studied. How shy she had been when he met her, and he first asked her out. How her eyes shone like emeralds when she laughed. She had a calm aura to her that he felt at peace when he was around her, like the world was sitting where it was meant to be. At least until exam time came and she spent more and more time studying in the library, he hadn’t been able to help the jealousy that crept in. Tired and stressed from his own exams he’d gotten upset when she said she was going to apply for a medical ship instead of the explorer ship they had planned to go on together. He’d been sure she had changed her mind because she was cheating on him with another med cadet.

After everything he had done for her, pulled her from the downwards spiral she had been in and when she’d been lost as what she should do in the future, he had delayed enrolling in StarFleet until she was enrolled herself and could go with him. He loved her - had loved her but then she’d turned and pat all of his plans in his face.

He knew he’d mucked up but then she hadn’t even given him a chance to make it up to her, to tell her that it was because he loved her. Instead, she’d refused to see him and run away to her new secret boyfriend. Fraiser whished he knew just who that man was so he could confront him but no matter how hard he couldn’t find him (I’m just going to note that Fraiser couldn’t find the alleged boyfriend because he didn’t exist) the only evidence of his existence at all being the late nights she claimed were for studying, the desire to go on a medical and that horrid little puppy she claimed her cousin had gifted her.

Now older and with more maturity he knew he would react differently. He’d be calmer, talk things through with her properly. Perhaps he could have even given up his ship placement to take a place on the medical vessel. He knew he was good enough he could serve anywhere, even a boring medical ship, and get commendations and promotions.

“My ex,” Flynn added eventually, “I love-ed her when we were together,”

Lt. (j.g) Fraiser Flynn, Security

“You mention her as if you still do. I would like to discuss this with you further, but unfortunately we are out of time.” Khommrarc informed him. “I will put a note in your file to return to finish the evaluation. along with potential appointment times.”

N Lt. Cmdr. J’molla Khommrarc, CNS

“Good,” Fraiser said, standing up relieved that he wasn’t going to have to talk about Elaine. Out of all of the things he didn’t want to talk about she was as high up the list as Vulcan was far from Earth. He smiled charmingly, “It’s flattering that you would like to see me again. Although I’m sure you have better things to attend to than listen to me talk,”

“This has been charming, but I think we should end it here. I want to get back to my quarters to have a shower before meeting the lovely Trill from stella-cartography for the tour she offered to take me on. Enjoy the rest of your shift,”
