Mistress Valeria stood over the biobed on her ship’s medical bay. “This is sloppy work, Lokhar. Even if you didn’t intend to keep him alive, this did nothing. It’s barbaric and useless. And to torture a prisoner without your consent?” She raised one brow. Lokhar had mentioned his doctor more than once. “And this girl. What was done to her? I heard the guard tell you she’s the one who caught the man. What is she being punished for? Such behavior should be rewarded not punished.” The girl was in sorry shape. Valeria’s doctors weren’t sure either would survive.

Lohkar was visibly shocked, the doctor would be punished and stripped of his position for this. He would soon learn what it meant to be a slave. “Mistress, no excuses, this doctor has apparently disrespected my position and yours, I will accept whatever punishment you deem worthy for my failure” he said looking at Kryrssa, “this is Dradvia’s friend and my second, ” he placed a hand on her softly. “As to the federation, this is a friend of Dradvia’s , Tealor her doctor, I would not have authorized this at all” he said lowering his eyes in shame for probably the first time in his life.

The young woman opened her eyes. A distressed moan and cry of pain left her. She tried to move, to get up. “Master Lokhar, I didn’t betray you, I swear!”

Kryssa opened her mouth. She must answer with the truth. But she couldn’t. The words wouldn’t form. Sobs racked her body. “It… it was…” Her body began to shake and she screamed like she was in pain.

The telepath that had been with Makahla stopped a few feet away and knelt. “Mistress Valeria,” he pleaded. She turned and narrowed her eyes, “Speak!”

He looked at Kryssa. “She cannot. Her mind is under compulsion. I can hear her thoughts and her terror. She knows who did this and more, but her mind has been programmed to inflict pain if she tries to tell.”

Kryssa dared to look up at Lokhar and nodded her head, teas leaking out of the corner of her eyes. She hadn’t betrayed him. She had done the right thing and The Doctor had punished her, beat her, tortured her. She hadn’t done anything wrong!

The man nodded. He stepped up beside Kryssa. “I won’t hurt you. I just want to help.” He was afraid of his punishment. He was doing what Makahla had ordered to save his wife, but he had a feeling Makahla had harmed her anyway. “She knows him only as ‘The Doctor.’ Orion male, drab, his skin is never luminous like it should be, he’s over weight, has yellow eyes and wears a dirty lab coat.”

Valeria looked at Lokhar with a raised brow. “I would like to go with you to meet this man.”

“Yest misstress, Make sure she gets the best treatment possible, I’ll pay what ever needs to be spent” he said taking Valaria by the hand without thinking.

“You did good, the both of you, Why are you working for a worm like Makahla?” he asked, the man seemed loyal, it did not make sense. He rubbed Kyrssa’s head one last time.

The man shook his head, “Makahla has my wife. I have not seen her… in weeks. She said if I didn’t do what she wanted she would kill her. She’s not on the ship. Makahla has her somewhere so that I can not sense her.”

Kryssa turned her cheek into Lokhar’s palm and seemed to calm. The man sat up, “Enforcer, she wants me to tell you, he is keeping secrets from you. Conducting experiments on your crew and servants, everyone on the ship. She says there is a locked lab hidden behind his office.”
