The Wolverine was a slick vessel, and Valoru had done his research. The Brazen class was an excellent combat vessel, and would be an equally-excellent delivery vehicle for the marine fire teams. Valoru had a long history of security forces work, but it wasn’t until he encountered the full structure and rigor of Starfleet Marine Corps that he found his true calling.

The Andorian found his way to Deck 1 to meet with the commanding officer to report in. It was an odd chain of command with the Marines, but Valoru always prioritized respect and and authority to the ship or station CO. That may be mandated to him, but he delivered nonetheless. The rub between navy and marines was just silly, in his mind.

Valoru neared the ready room door and waited for the chime and welcome.

“Come in,” David called almost immediately after the chime. The CO was already on his feet as the door opened, walking over to meet Valoru near the entrance. “Lieutenant, it’s good to meet you! Would you like anything to drink?”

The Andorian walked in and was prepared to salute but was offered a drink. “Sir,” he said, standing at attention without the salute. “A tea would be lovely, if you don’t mind.”

Valoru eased up and followed the captain towards a seating arrangement near the replicator. He set a padd down on the table. “I have the transfer orders, but I’m sure you’ve already seen them electronically,” he offered. His quiet or straight-laced outward appearance was normal for these sort of scenarios with officials and newly-met individuals.

David picked up the PADD anyway. “I appreciate the copy nonetheless. I imagine you’ve read up on our ship?” He turned to the replicator to produce two teas, placing one on either side of his desk as he took his seat.

The Andorian nodded as he went to sit across from the captain, taking the tea. “I did, sir.” He took a sip. For a replicator, whatever the captain conjured was tasty. “In fact, seeing the charter and mission packages was one of the reasons I accepted the transfer from the Corps.” He had not seen a mission update recently, as the Wolverine was still in the heat of everything, but he knew some of the challenges she’d been facing.

“Oh?” David asked. “Tell me more about that.” He took a sip of his own tea, blowing across the top of the cup to cool it a bit further.

“Well, sir, the area of operations out here calls for a certain level of strength and fortitude.” Valoru grinned a bit. “When I saw that the Wolverine, and other vessels, had been surviving and thriving out here, I wanted to be a part of it.” It made quite simple sense in his head, at least. “Grow out here where you grow or die out. That’s one ultimatum I’ve heard, at least.”

“That is certainly true at times,” David agreed, “although we try to keep it not always the case. This is your first shipboard assignment, yes? What’s the change like?”

“Yessir,” Valoru responded, taking another sip of tea. “I’ve had my fair share of ship service, prior to Starfleet and even during. My yes, my first official posting to a ship.”

The Andorian paused again, looking up a bit as he pondered the other question. “So far, it is not as much of a change, just a smaller vessel. Like I said, I’m looking forward to our few small fire teams. It will be a nice way to lean in and get the job done, without a lot of logistical mechanisms to fuss with.” He knew the logistics was half of being a marine, but being able to focus on a couple small teams would be a nice role.
