The one advantage by announcing a chess move was EDDIE, was finally silent. 3D chess was a little harder to calculate and for a computer that was more designed to calculate improbable infinity, it took a little more time to provide an answer to the next move.

Petrov smiled. A simple move but obviously one that achieved its desired result, silence. There were several plays to this move but control of the center was the objective.

Petrov CE

=/\= Wells to Petrov. EDDIE’s gone quiet, did something happen? =/\=

“Nothing permanent I assure you. I gave it an auxiliary task to keep its auditory program busy. Its still working and available as far as I can tell.” Petrov said smiling inwardly.

Petrov CE

=/\= Well, I hope the auxiliary task doesn’t resort to EDDIE calculating the improbability factors of letting or otherwise making it challenging for enough you win at a logic game while being at odds of his personality to please everyone. Just make sure you tell him whether you want a fair or unfair game where if you do or don’t want to loose. =/\=

EDDIE, after much thought, announced a chess move with the knight to level 1. It was… fairly neutral in the response to Petrov’s move.

(OOC: I have no idea how to play 3D chess, so I’m making it up.)

OOC: I was just curious if you would take the challenge or not.

OOC: Despite playing a computer, and being a computer scientist… I’m bad at chess. It was never my thing.

IC:

“Eddie never mind. I was looking forward to losing while actually winning.” Petrov said. Doing the opposite of what he was told. Let the tin can brain figure that one out.

Petrov CE

“Alright-y Mr. Petrov! If you wish!” replied EDDIE in his usual singsong voice.

=/\= EDDIE, data point: three of our crew members’ DNA was scrambled in a transporter mishap. Please calculate the improbability that our crew members will return back to normal after the Improbability Drive activates. =/\=

=/\= That’s an affirmative, Commander Wells! I’ll get right on that. =/\=

=/\= The only way to keep EDDIE quiet is to keep him busy. Might as well figure out if the Improbability Drive would fix the issue we intend it for. =/\=

As long as he was not the one having to talk to the darn thing he was ok with whatever it worked on.

=^=Oh EDDIE. Also calculate into the factors if we had to lose one crew member how greatly would that improve the chances of the others returning to normal. In case we face such a dilemma. Deliver that info only to me =^= He said but muted the com to the Bridge

Petrov CE

“It would be my pleasure, Mr. Petrov!” exclaimed EDDIE, “Did you want me to calculate the different factors depending on which crew member is lost as well?”

“Lets just select say…the ….COS as a random choice.” Petrov said keeping his tone as neutral as he could. He knew a Texan once who had told him something about messing with bulls and getting the horns. He could give that same advice to the COS right about now.

Petrov CE

OOC: I guess I’m just holding pat here as this is where I am needed at the moment.
IC:

“Sir invertor 3 in the reverse manifold is showing signs of degradation. Should we do regular maintenance or wait?” Ensign Bothersome asked.

“Continue regular maintenance. Just don’t bring anything off line for now.” Petrov said waving the ensign off dismissively.
