The Wolverine.

It was a different beast entirely to the USS Challenger, the ship he had spent time on as a cadet within the ranks of Star Fleet. No longer did he have mentors watching over him, training him. He was a junior officer aboard an active Star Fleet vessel, a Brazen Class Escort. He was expected to carry out his duties professionally and expertly to the best of his abilities.

The young ensign had spent time studying the ships specification upon finding out from Captain Aaron Foley that his placement would be aboard the Brazen Class. He remembered his first arrival upon a Star Fleet ship and how lost he’d gotten. He didn’t want a repeat of that in the slightest. He’d actually taken the time to study where everything important was about the USS Wolverine as to not get lost on day one.

Adjusting his standard issue uniform, he approached the door to the office of his new Department Head. His new Chief Medical Officer was a Doctor and a Lieutenant of Star Fleet. All in all, he didn’t appear too dissimilar to what the young ensign was used to. He was sure that there would be some differences in personality but hopefully nothing to write home about.

Zachariah Conway stood at attention, and proceeded to tap the door lightly.

Stretching his back he raised his arms high above his head. Looking at the time he noted that he still had time before his next counseling session. “Enter” he said as he looked over his schedule as he stood from his seat to great whoever it was.

“Ah Ensign Conway, Welcome come in have a seat.” he said moving around his desk. “Can I get you something to drink?” he asked.

Dr Tealor Tessan
Chief Medical Officer U.S.S Wolverine

Zachariah entered the office upon command.

The young ensign stepped in quickly and stood at attention until directed otherwise by the Lieutenant. Upon the invitation to take a seat, the young man did so however he sat with perfect posture. Star Fleet could be described as many things, but above all else it was a military operation and policy and procedure and the rules meant a lot within the organisation.

“No thank you, sir” he replied upon the offer of a drink. “I believe Star Fleet regulations instruct that I am to make myself known to my department head upon arrival onto a new vessel and report for duty” he continued. “Ensign Zachariah Conway, graduate and transferee from the USS Challenger” he said formally. “I believe you have already been provided with a copy of my assingment orders” he stated.

Technically he wasn’t entirely ready for duty yet. He would be expected to have his medical check in and his psychological evaluation before he was assigned to active duty. It made sense to tick off his introductions to his department head first though, especially as all three of his check ins would occur within the same area and likely with the same person.

“Reporting for duty, Lieutenant”.

Tealor smiled “At ease Ensign” he said. “I tried the formal thing when I got here too, captain looks for a little less protocol, obviously ship outsiders still get full honors but he want’s us all to operate with a little less formality” he picked up his padd and scanned his orders

“Well all seems to be in order, once you get checked out we’ll get you on first shift with me I could use an extra hand” he smiled.

“Tessan looked over his qualification, “Do you have any questions for me?”

Chief Medical Officer U.S.S Wolverine

For as much as the captain probably wanted a little less formality, the USS Wolverine was still a military vessel. Protocols and standards were still highly important.

“No, sir” he answered. He truly had no questions to ask. He was content, he knew what he was doing and he had a vague understanding of the ship layout. “Should anything come to me, I will be sure to ask” he added after a brief pause.

“I believe I am also mandated to conduct a medical and a councilling session before reporting for active duty. Some would say I planned the order of these appointments to do all three mandatory appointments in one go” he chuckled softly.

Ensign Zachariah Conway - Medical Officer

Tealor chuckled “Indeed, sadly I have something to take care of, ” he responded taping his com badge. =/\= “Ensign Dravia report the Chief Medical Officers Office” =/\= he shifted his pad looking around for something on his desk. “We’ll have Ensign Dradvia get you checked out medically that will give me a few minutes to finish my reports.” he said. “You can wait here or wait out in sickbay,” he noted.

=/\=On my way, Sir.=/\= a gentle voice sounded over the comm. Less than a minute later Dradvia appeared at the door. She had a lab coat over her blue uniform where her newly minted ensign pip still showed on her collar, and her brown hair pinned into a soft bun. “Dr. Tessan?”

Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer

Tealor looked up a little shocked that she had gotten there so fast, now feeling rather lazy having used the coms he looked up from his work. “Ah Dr Dradvia, Dr Conway if you don’t mind could you mange his medical check for duty, I’m barried in paper work” he noted

It was a short walk across sickbay and she had been nearby in the supply locker. “Of course, Sir.” She turned to Conway, “Will you follow me please?” and she led the way towards the main Medical bay.

Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer

The Chief Medical Officer was busy, which was fair enough.

Zachariah could only begin to imagine the amount of paperwork and other odd jobs that he had. It made a lot of sense that he would outsource where possible, especially as other members of the medical team could conduct his medical examination. Heck, if Star Fleet regulations allowed it he was almost certain that he would be able to conduct his own without any issues.

There wasn’t much of a delay between the doctor requesting the ensign and the ensign arriving in the office. He didn’t even have time to wait in Sick Bay if he had of wanted to. The introductions were quick and brief before the ensign, Dradvia was asking for him to follow her for his check up. It was obvious he wasn’t entirely paying attention, in his head, he was trying to get his medical history in order as he knew it would be a question asked of him.

“Lead the way”

Ensign Zachariah Conway - Medical Officer

Dradvia led the way to the biobed in the center of the room. There was one more along the wall that was for patients they kept for observation. She flipped the controls on. “Have a seat, please.” She was quiet, soft spoken, but knew what she was doing. She tapped away on a PaDD, “Ensign Zachariah Conway, correct?”

“Good, your medical files have already arrived,” she smiled and took out her tricordee and flipped it open. “Anything specific in your history that you want to discuss?” she asked as she moved the censor around him.

En. Dradvia, Medical Officer

He nodded in confirmation.

The young ensign had followed the doctor through to Sick Bay and sat on the edge of the biobed which he had been led to. He’d identified the Ja’risia on her head that noted that she was likely a Risian, a species that he hadn’t come across very often. Zachariah assumed that she was a skilled medical practicioner in her own rights, watching as she started tapping away on a PaDD to get up his details.

“Nothing major, I don’t think. Broken arm when I was about seven, few cuts and scrapes from Star Fleet training but otherwise I should be all fit and well?” he answered as she began to scan him. “A question whilst you work, if I may. How is serving aboard the Wolverine?” he asked softly, eyes watching her face for the answer.

Ensign Zachariah Conway - Medical Officer

She watched her tricorder as she scanned him. Her brow wrinkled between her brows, drawing the Ja’risia down slightly. “Dr. Tessan is nice. He doesn’t mind answering questions and teaching. I really can’t tell you much. I arrived a week ago from the Academy.”

Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer

He offered a slight smile to the ensign.

Zachariah was glad he wasn’t alone. “Same here. It’s daunting. On the Challenger I felt like everyone was there to teach and you were almost expected to make mistakes. Here, I don’t know. It feels like I’m expected to know what I’m doing and like that oversight and protection has completely vanished” he said, quite open in his response. He was honestly terried.

Ensign Zachariah Conway - Medical Officer

The Challenger. So he’d just graduated, just like her. Dradvia didn’t recognize him, but then she wasn’t the social type at all. She’d hidden in the crowds. The only person she had really known was her roommate. “I was on the Fastrac.” She slipped the sensor back into the top of the tricorder. “Dr. Tessan is great that way. He’s like a safety net. He had me working with him this first week, now I’m on the early morning shift. If you need anything or are unsure, just ask him.”

He offered the ensign a slight smile, making a mental note that the Chief Medical Officer could be used as a safety net. He seemed approachable enough with any issues, however Zachariah noted that he had only crossed paths with the Lieutenant for the best part of five minutes. Five minutes wasn’t enough time to make a reasonable judgement on anything.

She picked up a PaDD and made sure the scans were saved. “Everything shoes perfectly healthy. We’re you exposed to any infections, viruses, or other pathogens in the last month?”

Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer

“Not that I’m aware of, no. Only thing out of the ordinary was a bit of a shootout on the Challenger but nothing to write home about. I mostly just hid and let other people do the fighting” he offered a slight chuckle, thinking back to his time briefly.

Ensign Zachariah Conway - Medical Officer

Dradvia was glad her Cadet mission had been much calmer. She never wanted to go through such a thing, but it was most likely inevitable. “Best to hide and let those trained deal with it.” She closed her tricorder and slipped it into her pocket. “I don’t see any reason not to clear you. Dr. Tessan is also our CNS. Would you like me to help you schedule an evaluation?”

Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer

He offered a smile.

“Brilliant, glad to know I’m all in working order” he chuckled softly. “I do suppose I best follow protocol and go and ensure I’m all there mentally also” he added, again with another chuckle. He knew policy stated that he was required to conduct an evaluation prior to starting duties on board the Wolverine. He couldn’t remember the last evaluation, but clearly it had gone well considering.

Ensign Zachariah Conway - Medical Officer

Dradvia smiled quietly and tapped along the PaDD again and handed it to him. “These are all his available appointments. You can pick whichever you would like.” While he looked she tapped her badge. =/\=Dradvia to Tessan. Sir, En. Conway has finished his physical.=/\= She had no idea what to have Conway to do next so she decided it was best to inform Dr. Tessan.

Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer

He had no idea what he was required to do next.

He selected an appointment on the PaDD and cast his eyes towards Dradvia as she spoke to the Lieutenant. He was hopeful that the Chief Medical Officer would be able to provide guidance, or rush through his evaluation so he could get on with his job. If there was nothing left for him to do, he decided he’d just go and explore the ship and relax in his quarters.

“I appreciate your help, truly. A new ship is a scary place, especially when you’ve been seperated from your friends” he spoke softly. He thought of Bejal and Ethan, hoping both of them had settled on their own vessels just as he had. “Honestly, I wasn’t entirely sure how I’d feel being here, y’know?” he added softly.

Ensign Zachariah Conway - Medical Officer

Dradvia nodded. “I understand. It is daunting. I’m glad it’s a small ship though. I wouldn’t want to be on a bigger one.”

Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer

He couldn’t help but agree.

The Wolverine was a smaller ship with a smaller crew that appeared closer than what he was used to on the Challenger. Everyone seemed to know everyone on the Wolverine. “It certainly seems like a place I could settle” he said eventually after a few moments. “I didn’t know how I’d find being on a different ship, especially after being so comfortable on the Challenger but everyone has made me feel so welcome here honestly”

Ensign Zachariah Conway - Medical Officer

OOC - Bump!

Ensign Zachariah Conway - Medical Officer

OOC: So sorry, I thought I replied to this.

IC: Dradvia nodded. “I honestly haven’t really had a chance to really talk to anyone outside of Medical. But everyone has been helpful and patient.”

Ens. Dradvia, Medical Officer

He offered her a smile.

“I can feel it, yeah” he said softly. “Any news on the Lieutenant?” he asked after a brief pause.

Ensign Zachariah Conway - Medical Officer

“I’m sure he’ll be here quickly,” Dradvia had no idea what Tessan would have Conway do. “I can show you around the medical facilities while we wait if you like.”
