Tealor stood just off the first tee at St Andrews, the view of the The Royal and Ancient Club framing the view behind him. He searched through his bag and put his golf glove in his back right pocket and took a sip from his coffee mug. 5am was early but it was likely the only time that the commander and he would be available at the same time.

He stood looking out of the fairway waiting for the Commander to arrive, it was the widest fairway on earth. It’s wide landing area gave a false sense of security as playing the hole wrong would land you in trouble during your approach. The sun was just kissing the top of the horizon the session time being son rise.

David walked in the holodeck door a moment later, carrying a black and silver travel mug emblazoned with USS Wolverine - NCC-99199 that had steam rising from the top and his own bag. “Morning!” he yawned. “Nice touch, with the sunrise. Ready to get started?”

Commanding Officer

He look out over the hole one last time. “I have a handy Cap of 8” he noted. “you can take the Honors if you like Sir” he said with a small grin. “We can talk while we are walking .” He noted pulling the driver out of his bag, and a ball which he showed to the Commander.

David pulled out a driver and ball of his own, nodding. “Here goes, it’s been a while.” He laughed self-deprecatingly and lined up his shot, doing fairly well despite his self-criticism and driving straight down the course. “Your turn.”

“Nice shot Sir” he said as he moved up to the tea and lined up his shot. He settled down into his stance looked down the fairway one last time to align his shot so it would end roughly where Morris’s had to give them the opportunity to talk. With a smooth slow backswing his body coiled up like a spring. What appeared to be a pause at the top of his back swing was just the shift of his hip and the changing of the direction of of the swing. With immense speed his body uncoiled sending the ball down the fairway with a loud clank followed but a clean follow through. The ball sored through the air moving right to left and settling little short of where the Commanders ball had settled. He then gathered his tea.

“Shall we? ” he said motioning down the fairway as he moved to gather his bag.

As the walked toward their next shot he started the conversation. Today was more about having a good time getting to know one another and looking for any obvious mental concerns. Which really was no different from any other evaluation except he found doing something fun together tend to put people at ease and they let their guards down a little. “So I should let you know, I will not use my telepathy on you unless you ask, and I tend to not ever read others emotions without their permission although it happens from time to time if I’m under a lot of stress.” he said hoping to nip that fear in the bud as best as it could be.

“Tell me, how are you settling into the new role?” he asked.

“Well enough. It’s obviously a lot of stress and I know I should be sleeping more, but I should settle back into a healthier routine once the transition period is over,” David said. “It helps that I came up through the ranks on this ship primarily - there’s less that I have to learn, although it is somewhat weird that now I’m the one at the top.”

Tealor made some mental notes as he was talking wanting to let him steer where the conversation as much as possible. That being said he had questions. “How are you adjusting away from being a peer especially with your command staff? Though admittedly I think most of your command staff has changed out.” he asked as they moved down the fairway.

“It’s not as much an adjustment as it might have been, since of the original senior staff, only 3 people are still on board. Of those 3, one moved from being a department head with me as XO to being my XO, and the second still technically outranks me, so the relationship is still much more on-level. I hadn’t really gotten a chance to know Lt. McCallister yet, so in terms of specific people, it’s not a huge adjustment. Wolverine plays loose with the strict divisions based on rank anyway.”

Tealor looked down at his ball and smirked. “Apparently you out drove me sir” he said with a snort. Looking to the front of the green and the edge of the water infront of it, he gathered about ninty to nityfive yards to the pin. The slopped green threatened to guide your ball back down into the water if you were to aggressive, the farther from the pin you got the higher the green sloped back. “A tough shot” he said pulling his 9 iron out and linning up his shot. “No guts no glory” he said half to himself, with a smoth stroke the ball went high into the air, arching it’s way to ward the area just onto the green toward the pin. It hit the green just shy of the hole rolling past it, and came to a stop around two yards past it. Sliding his club back into the bag he looked at Morris, “I can live with that shot, Do you not like a ridgid chain of command?” he asked

David matched shot for shot, somewhat out of practice but not much the worse for it. “I don’t mind it, but it’s not the culture that’s developed on the Wolverine. With the kind of missions we go on, having a much looser structure tends to help the morale and mental health, in my experience. There still is one, we are still Starfleet, but I don’t want to insist on a lot of the circumstance and red tape many ships have.”

Nodding in approval, “Seems we are close in skill level captain, to be honest I was not expecting you to be this good.” he said with a grin. “Ship protocol though, you don’t feel that it undermines the chain of command, I can see arguments for either to be clear” he said pulling his putter out of the bag.

OOC: i don’t think we’ll go through each hole figure we’ll skip ahead from time to time.

“Me either,” David laughed. “No, as long as people know who they answer to when it comes to it, it actually helps things in my opinion. People feel comfortable raising any issues and listen because they respect their commanding officers, not because of the pips on those officers’ collars.”
