Cel motioned the security team to take up formation behind the senior officers as they headed towards to the camp. He took a place at the rear of the formation, slowing down to take a slow look around the area.

-Cel

While at first everything seemed grey with the mists, Cel was able to detect subtle, but beautiful coloring in many of the things he saw. The mists were not uniform grey but had hints of the colors of the spectrum in places, brief, almost as though some ray of sunlight pierced through at that point momentarily. The rocks had layers of thin lichen that bore muted but lovely colors when one looked closely, as did the foliage that was about.

The camp did not take long to travel to. Sounds in the mist were dulled, but in the mist there was felt currents that drifted against them, a mix of sensations of air and a wave. Here and there were hints of some creature forming/appearing in the mist and then gone a moment later, often at the edge of the eye. The camp itself was orderly. Four tents made a half circle. Camp chairs and crates dotted the other half of the circle of the camp. Each was in tidy, neat groups. But all that said there was a slight dishevelment to it that gave it a ‘picked over’ look.
- Wookiee

“Okay with the mists and the camp,” Lily said moving closer to Duncan, “kinda has a Dyatlov feel to it.” She let her voice hang in the air for a second before explaining. “In the 1950’s there was a group of hikers that got lost in the Urals. There was a terrible snowstorm and all the rescue people found was an empty camp and bodies.” Lily was not the type to easily get spooked but she could not help but feel like there were things just out of sight and touch. “Duncan,” she moved so close that she was almost touching him, “are you sure we are alone here? I feel like there are creepy crawly things all around us.”

Lily Locksely CMO

“Of course there are,” Duncan casually commented. “Its’ a living ecosystem, there are probably things looking at us wanting to eat us right now too, honey. Exciting isn’t it?”

Cel signaled the security detail to take up defensive positions around the senior officers. He did a slow 360 as they approached the camp site.

‘We are being watched, stalked.’ Squared said into Cel’s mind as he swept across the area. ‘You saw those shapes in the mists.’

‘Yes’ Cel replied to Squared.

“Keep your eyes open.” He ordered the security detail as he joined the senior officers at the camp site. He knelt down near the chairs and examined the area. “Someone else has been here besides the original owners.” He stated.

-Cel

As they did that, the two figures who had been detected earlier slowly approached the camp. They were wearing what looked to be standard issue environmental suits with add on’s, though that could have been anything, technically, with the initial team being civilian. As soon as they saw the landing party they stopped as though to assess things before approaching the campsite.
- Wookiee

Lily immediately brought up her medical scanner and scanned the forms. It was odd that they were in full environmental suits while the crew of the Wolverine was walking around like they were on the ship. If there was something in the mist that was not crew friendly it was better to find out now rather than later.

Lily Locksley CMO

The suits gave off a certain energy reading that complicated the medical reading. The suit mimicked the surrounding mists as it were temperature and masked their own energy to perhaps camouflage them to whatever was about them, however, the reading finally settled on Vulcan for the scan. One was male, the other female, though the female was nearly the same size.

“Oh great, and I thought it was your cookies making me see things,” Duncan whispered to Lily and smirked slightly, before resuming his work face and turning to face the pair, raising his hand and clearly waving to them.

“Ahoy there!” His English accent rang out. “We come in peace, just want to chat for a bit. My name is Duncan. We’re from the Federation Starship Wolverine.”

Lt Rhodes, CSO

The two paused then glanced at one another. One raised a brow before holding up a gloved hand in a Vulcan salute. “Live long and prosper,” the one said. “I am S’kath, and this T’Lae. Logically you have come in response to our lack of communications. But you say Wolverine. I was only aware of one, the Pythagoras.” They moved closer at this time, and stopped just at its perimeter. “Have you searched our camp? It appears .. disturbed.”
- Wookiee

“No we found it that way,” Lily stated coming forward. “Your suits,” she gestured at the Vulcans. “Are they because of some toxin or just precaution or for a tactical purpose?”

Lily Locksley CMO

There was a twitch in the expression of T’Lae that may have been the briefest frown but then was gone. S’kath replied to Lily’s inquiry as he moved into the camp’s perimeter, glancing about. “The local Fauna become larger as one goes further down into the mists and some have displayed aggressive tendencies. The suits can mimic the external temperature and, to a degree, provide some camouflage. Within the mists that is difficult as movement shifts the surroundings.”

T’Lae added, “The suits keep back the humidity. For a desert people it can become distracting.” She focused on Lily. “Was there something requiring the presence of the Wolverine that the Pythagoras was unable to satisfy?”
- The Vulcans

Cel stood back at let the senior officers talk to the Vulcans. He turned his back on the pair and gazed out and around the camp doing a sweep, looking for those shapes he had seen earlier. He kept his hand on his phaser, but kept it holstered as he took a step away from the group and walked towards one of his security detail.

-Cel

Another figure appeared from the mists, from where was unknown as the scans didn’t pick him up. It was a thin Vulcan in Starfleet uniform. He took some steps toward the group, then collapsed.
- Wookiee

Lily ran towards the fallen officer and pulled out her tricorder as she knelt down beside him running the scan. “What is his name,” she asked the other two Vulcans as she looked at her patient.

Lily Locksley CMO

The two approached closer. One of them, the female, T’Lae, knelt down and looked closely. She looked up at S’kath who shook his head. “We don’t know. Presumably he is of the Pythagoras if you don’t know his identity.” She reached to expose one side of his collar that had been torn. “Captain.” Indeed four pips were there.

“Captain,” she said in a calm but firm tone. “Captain I am Dr. Lily Locksley from the Wolverine. We are gonna help you okay.” Reaching out she put her hand over his and squeezed it as she activated the tricorder with her other hand. Physical contact with the patient when she started any procedure was something she had always done in any situation. Handshakes in check ins, holding someone’s hand, touching thier shoulder: All of it was a signal that someone was there to help them whether they were in pain, unconscious, or just as a friendly gesture.

There was a flicker, more a twitch, that flashed once along his left cheek. Perhaps a reaction to the pain, or perhaps to Lily’s contact with him.

The unconscious Vulcan was injured and as Lily drew closer it showed up much more clearly. There was a tear at his left side towards the back in his uniform and a poorly patched bandage applied over what could have been a bad gash. There was a burn along one side of his face, the right side, which showed up as a rather deeper greenish hue. The tricorder registered concussion, two cracked ribs on the side with the injury, bruised hip and numerous soft tissue injuries and bruises.
- Wookiee

Swinging her case around she pulled out a topical burn cream and sprayed a fine mist that coated the side of his face. Burn pain registered as some of the worst pain one could ever feel. Most patients could grunt and bear through pretty much all other pain but the only other pain that rivaled a burn was childbirth or kidney stones.

“Okay,” she set the tricorder down. “He has a concussion, cracked ribs, and bruises all over his body like he just went ten rounds with the heavy weight champion of the galaxy but I need to check out his back. There is a laceration. He is unconscious but can you,” she looked at one of the other Vulcan officers, “take his right shoulder and you the left. Duncan take his head and lift it with his body. Keep it level while I get eyes on his back. Be careful not to flip him over. Just lift him.”

Lily Locksley CMO

The two glanced at one another quickly then complied and moved into the noted positions. At another glance and a nod they they slowly lifted.

The bandage covered the area. Lily would want to remove it to apply something much more effective and to inspect it. When she did she found a foot long ugly jagged gash wherein only his ribs would have halted whatever caused that.. She could add blood loss into her list of issues plaguing the Vulcan. In seeing it T’Lae’s eyes widened.
- Wookiee

Cel returned and came up next to the group. “Was this a wildlife attack or something else?” he asked quickly as Locksley worked.

-Cel

“I can’t tell but it does not look like a weapon did this. The edges are ragged so it might be a talon. I can’t rule out a bite but normally more teeth would be involved. Based on the depth of the injury and width it is a pretty huge animal.” Looking at Cel, Lily let out a deep breath.

“You are packing right? Like enough to take down a rhino or dinosaur-era type bird…if needed.”

Lily Locksley CMO

S’kath and T’lae glanced at one another. S’kath spoke. “The only large predator like creatures native to this world are much deeper down in the mists and are more akin to sharks or great anaconda like serpents. None would leave an injury like this. Higher in the mists the predations are smaller, if similar in nature. Our only danger would be encountering schools of them.” He paused in thought. “More dangerous are visiting species such as us or the Kein or Wis or occasional Ferengi treasure seekers.”

The injured Vulcan spasmed. A word in Vulcan escaped his lips in a muted whisper but might have been ‘doctor’.
- Wookiee

Cel knelt down next to the doctor. “What about a long serrated blade? Something designed to tear or shred it’s target.” He asked as he watched the doctor work.

-Cel

The two Vulcans looked at one another. One almost made a shrugging motion.
Wookiee
OOC: The doctor would be able to tell that it was .. possible.

“No I don’t think so,” Lily waved it off casually. “It looks like an animal bite at least from my medical expertise.” Lily placed a hand on the injured Vulcan and made a soothing shhhh sound. Pulling a hypo from her bag, Lily gave him a bit more medicine to ease the pain.

Standing up she looked at the other officers. “Okay, I am worried about shock. Since you have the suits,” she looked at the Vulcans, “see if you can get us some firewood. Yes, it is hot but if he is going into shock we need something to keep him warmer. As you said Vulcans are desert people so his internal temperature needs to be warmer than ours. Also most animals tend to be afraid of fire so it can’t hurt to help keep up safe. Cel,” she looked at her fellow officer, “help me look at the tents to see if we can find some thermal blankets. My patient won’t be the only one freezing and I would rather prepare than not.”

Moving towards one of the tents, Lily caught Cel’s eyes and motioned for the officer to follow her. Once in the tent, Lily spoke rapidly as she moved things about as if looking for a blanket. “The wound does look like it is from a blade. I did not want to admit it because the Vulcans seem to be popping out of the mist like it is a Pez dispenser. Be on guard.”

Lily Locksley CMO

IC: Cel followed the doctor towards the tent. “I did notice that they seem to be multiplying like rabbits. I will take a look around the perimeter of this camp and see if I can spot anything.

OOC: Lol . .Pez dispenser .. Love it!! .. Gene
IC:

S’kath’s brows momentarily twitched at that proclamation of an animal, however remained silent. At the urging to build a fire they gently put the Vulcan down to a prone position. They moved off further into the camp. S’kath silently pointed to one tent while he ducked into another. T’Lae bent over and slipped into the other. She emerged with a small fusion heater that she carried over to where the injured Vulcan lay. Kneeling she carefully activated it. An orange red glow grew on it’s hexagonal grid like faces quickly dispelling the fog in the area. “It would be difficult to light anything in this environment when the mist thickens as it is. When the tide goes down it may be possible.”

Others searching would find, in the back of one of the tents, a first aid station. There they would find folded thin mesh weave thermal blankets among a distinctly well outfitted, if civilian, kit.
- Wookiee

“I found a couple blankets.” Cel said to Lily, pulling out a couple thermal blankets near the back of the tent wall. “A first aid station too. It almost seems like they planned to be here for a while.” He mused, holding up the blanket for the doctor.

-Cel

The camp was not an overnight camp but looked to be not just a base camp for the archaeological team but the location for one for some time - perhaps a staging area for past and present teams. For a camp it was chosen well - it was on a small plateau or at least flat area surrounded by outcrops and nearby hills. The drop off, however, mostly went downward; the camp was toward the upper regions of a broad rise to which the shuttle and the camp was mostly near the peak.

The survey of the camp area showed that as one went farther out from the campsite the rockier it became. At one point there looked to be a small ‘junkyard’ of discarded or broken items from the various visitors prior to their arrival. While still small it evidently showed years of accumulated discards. Cel would see, at one point, a small green stain on the side of an outcropping noting the potential winding path of the Vulcan captain. Walking that back Cel would come to a drop off where a steep, if winding and dangerous looking cliff face was that wound down to disappear in the mists below.
- Wookiee

Cel finished his survey of the area and returned to the wounded Vulcan. “Here are some blankets.” He turned to one of his security detail.

“Ensign, stay with them and get a fire started to keep them warm. Treat them as best as you can.”

OCC: Who is still down here besides me?
