Alita sat at her kitchen table actually trying to get some work done for a change but, as usual, there were several pots on the stove and that damned door was letting delicious smells out into the hallway.

“Trico! Get here now!” The voice was firm and carried an edge of authority to it, along with a clipped English accent that signaled a well grounded education in some fancy school on Earth, but at the same time there was a current of frustration that the authority in that voice clearly wasn’t being listened to. “So help me when I catch up to you, what are you doing?”

What it was doing became clear when a the head of a small animal poked in through the opening in the door, and gave the occupant of the room a small chirp like bark that sounded half bird and half dog. Indeed the small animal itself was only around knee height and while it had the face of a dog it also sported a muzzle that wasn’t entirely dog like, large ears that stood up and it’s front feet, at least the two visible ones, had the lower clawed appendages of a bird. Two small horns also stuck out the top of the creatures head.

Raising it’s head, the creature clearly sniffed the air and what was coming from the room, happy that it had found the source of the yum. That was confirmed when a long tongue lolled out of the animals mouth, longer than a normal dogs tongue should be. “Why the heck did you take off like that?” The voice outside in the corridor said, now clearly catching up to the animal. “Trico you can’t,” Now the voice paused slightly. “Are you serious?” The voice sounded unimpressed, but not surprised. “You could smell that from two decks down?”
