Ayla grinned slightly, knowing all too well the feelings Alita was experiencing in that moment. “Blessings and curses. Can’t have one without the other sometime. I myself am just trying to figure out where exactly I stand. I’ve been pretty open about my PTSD, and while I think I have a solid handle on it, empathic perception is hardly an exact science. So I don’t always have the context for what I pick up when people are around me. It takes patience and sometimes thick skin,” she said thoughtfully.

Looking around the scene, she smiled before looking at Alita again. “So, we should get together again. What should we do next?” she said with a hint of mischief.

Alita smiled and thought for a minute.

“Oh I’m sure we’ll figure something out. Your call. Just tell me what to bring. I do have some strawberries that are going to go bad within a week. This great multicultural galaxy of ours has taught me many ways to store food but, short of putting it in stasis, it’ll go bad someday and I’m not about to ask Chief Petrov to rig a small stasis unit in my quarters.” Alita explained.

“Well, it would be a shame for them to go to waste,” Ayla said with a grin. “And though I miss having a replicator in my quarters, I would be happy to learn to make something with those strawberries, if you’re game to teach?”
