It had been a slow morning in medical so Micah wasn’t in any hurry to return. She was a com away if something happened, but work usually followed a more leisurely pace when there weren’t many patients. When she returned, Collin would then be free to take his time over a turkey sandwich or a mid-day workout. She took another swallow of cold tea and thought about stopping by the ship’s day care where Lake, her daughter, was spending the time during her shift.
At three years old, Lake was sometimes hard to predict. Sometimes, when her mama showed up to claim her, Lake cried and pouted that she wanted to stay and play. “Probably not a good idea.” Micah said to herself. Popping the last french fry into her mouth, she stood and headed back to work.
