Alston stepped out of the slider in front of Government Tower, but it wasn’t any ordinary slider. Not only did it have emergency lights flashing all around it, it actually had the CIA’s seal on the doors. Definitely not the typical vehicle that his department used, and there were only a couple in the fleet. Most of the time the CIA was trying to be subtle, but not today. Today was all about making a big spectacle. And that meant making a show of arriving to meet at the Police HQ, and not just taking the secure transporter. As he stepped out of the slider, Mace noticed many eyes on the car, which was the point. There was definitely no longer going to be hiding his involvement with the CIA anymore, but if they could make this work, it will be worth it. Though he did wince slightly when he saw a flash of a camera go off.
Making his way through the lobby, he was quickly ushered through the check point and up the secured lift to the Police HQ. They had only a limited window to make this work, and hopefully they would be able to pull it off. But first, he needed to make sure Pangolin, Ripkiz, and whoever else they were bringing with them, were on the same page.
As the doors to the lift opened, Mace made his way across to the desk sergeant. “DCI Pangolin is expecting me I believe,” he said as he walked up to the desk.
- Mace
“Director,” a voice called out and the woman he had met earlier in the investigation appeared. She stopped at the desk and patted the receptionist’s shoulder. “I’ve got this.”
She gestured with her head for Mace to follow and waited till they were out of ear shot. “I was filled in on the idea. We’re meeting in a conference room back here.”
“Perfect. Lead the way.”
Down a couple hallways and Ripkiz stepped through a door. “Can I get you anything while we wait for the others?”
~Aliana Ripkiz, Forensic’s Department and IT genius
“I’m good for now, thank you though.”
Jewel stood outside the conference room for a min, she had cases to solve but DCI Pangolin was not working a case that he could not get away from. She was fine politics but she had a caseload at the moment that was very high, taking on another was not something she was interested in. She told Pangolin and had argued that she was given the right, by him to choose the cases she worked on. In the end she lost and he won.
Jewel did not smile when she entered, she rarely did when she was on duty. She was tall, in her mid to late forties, and in excellent shape, her black hair was braided to one side and a look that said she was not to be messed with. “I must apologize, on behalf of DCI Pangolin, he is currently indisposed and has sent me in his stead” she said holding out her hand. “DCI Jewel Stone Major Crimes Division.”
Detective Chief Inspector MCD, Jewel Stone
Alston reached out and took her hand. “Director Mace,” he said with a slight frown. That was an unexpected change, and as someone who worked on knowing all of the details, he did not like unexpected changes.
“Did he by chance give you any details of what we are looking to do? Or what has been going on so far?”
- Mace
Jewel gave a firm shake, I’m afraid he was rather busy when he called, so no I have no idea what this is about at all” she noted.
Detective Chief Inspector MCD, Jewel Stone
“Of course not,” he said letting out a short laugh. “Alright, what do you know about Mr. Jones and his murder?”
- Mace
“Nothing, other than it happened, I’ve been working some other cases, Pangolin was holding it pretty close to the chest.” she said looking around the room.
Detective Chief Inspector MCD, Jewel Stone
Alston looked up at the ceiling and took a deep breath.
“Of course he didn’t,” he said before letting it out and looking at Jewel.
“Okay, quick and dirty catch up. We managed to track down the assassin for Mr. Jones, Starfleet caught him going through customs at space dock. However, during interrogation he revealed that he was just a paid thug, and things went sideways. He had been paid through several third parties, including the Orions, to pressure Mr. Jones into stealing classified data. They thought to use his past to their advantage.
“This is where things, get a bit more gray. What do you know about Devray Technologies, and their chairman, Mr. Kennick?”
- Mace

OOC: sorry thought I replied to thisIC:
Jewel shrugged she wanted to say, you mean the rich guy that runs a tech company, bought his way around the city that loser, yeah I know of him but she was professional as always. “They are hard to miss if you have been on Oed for more than a few months, and the chairman, I know of him” she said though there was a distaste in her tone.Detective Chief Inspector MCD, Jewel Stone
Aliana wasn’t a detective requiring a good ‘poker face’. She snorted at the detective’s time. “Whatever you think you know Detective, so we’ve discovered it’s likely a helluva lot worse.” She’d let Mace draw the obvious connection between Kennick and Jones, but she was ready when they discussed what they were going to do about it. That’s where she came in.
~Aliana Ripkiz, Forensic’s Department and IT genius
“This is where things get a bit more circumstantial. If you go back in the public records, Kennick ran against Captain Dasca for Lt. Governor, with the backing of some members of the Federation Council. In interviewing the Lt Governor, he has made some passing comments in her presence showing that he is still not happy with the results of that election.
“But how did we get here? So far our earliest evidence is that a bug was discovered at the Lt Governor’s residence, a bug developed by Devray. Nothing strange about that, they make a fair bit of that tech. But shortly after the bug was discovered was when Mr. Jones was found murdered. Starfleet Security picked up his murderer. After interviewing the suspect, he was handed several pieces of Devray tech and told specifically to lean on Mr. Jones for information. Hired through a third party, but there are still just enough red flags to point us back to Devray and Kennick.
“Are you following me so far?”
- Mace
Bringing this forward for Ryan
Jewel shook her head, “So the suspect is claiming that, they were instructed to pressure Mr Jones for information about the Govenor?” she noted. “To what end?” she asked shifting a little in her stance.
Detective Chief Inspector MCD, Jewel Stone
“I can’t give you too many specifics on what was being targeted, I’m not cleared to read you in on the exact details. However, the bug heard some very sensitive information related to the colony, but only enough to know that a project existed that was highly confidential. Not what the project entailed. And with Mr. Jones connections to the Lt Governor, he was targeted as a means to get more information about the project, most likely in an attempt to get a leg up on the competition if any government contracts were to come from this project.”
- Mace
Aliana snorted. “There was some very serious blackmailing going on to do so, too,” Ripkiz said. “For better or worse, Jones basically told them to go to hell.”
~Aliana Ripkiz, Forensic’s Department and IT genius
“Unfortunately in this case, it was for worse it seems. The guy they had sent after him got sloppy, and that’s how we were able to connect the dots.
“Kennick is up to something, and with his connections he’s not just going to simply back off. He needs to be, persuaded to drop the matter, and back off from pursuits in Oed’s government.”
Alston took a deep breath as he measured up Jewel, trying to gauge how she was going to react. “Before I go any further, this would be your last chance to say no and walk away with plausible deniability. You know some, but you don’t actually know what we are planning. But to make this work, I do know Ms. Ripkiz and your help. So, are you in?”
- Mace
“I know it is a lot to ask on short notice, but we won’t be working in the traditional boundaries of the system. This is a legal gray area. Not to mention, my charter severely restricts what I can do here on Oed.
“If you want out, we’ll walk away. And I’ll find another way to nail these guys.”
- Mace
Jewel thought for a long moment as he listen to the two banter, “I’m ok with gray, so long as it does not cross into the black, as to how to investigate this, that’s another matter there’s not really a lot her without exposing that we are looking into it, I think of something, but i’ll need to read my team in or we’ll get know where, what shall the story be?”
