Alston stepped out of the slider in front of Government Tower, but it wasn’t any ordinary slider. Not only did it have emergency lights flashing all around it, it actually had the CIA’s seal on the doors. Definitely not the typical vehicle that his department used, and there were only a couple in the fleet. Most of the time the CIA was trying to be subtle, but not today. Today was all about making a big spectacle. And that meant making a show of arriving to meet at the Police HQ, and not just taking the secure transporter.

As he stepped out of the slider, Mace noticed many eyes on the car, which was the point. There was definitely no longer going to be hiding his involvement with the CIA anymore, but if they could make this work, it will be worth it. Though he did wince slightly when he saw a flash of a camera go off.

Making his way through the lobby, he was quickly ushered through the check point and up the secured lift to the Police HQ. They had only a limited window to make this work, and hopefully they would be able to pull it off. But first, he needed to make sure Pangolin, Ripkiz, and whoever else they were bringing with them, were on the same page.

As the doors to the lift opened, Mace made his way across to the desk sergeant. “DCI Pangolin is expecting me I believe,” he said as he walked up to the desk.

“Director,” a voice called out and the woman he had met earlier in the investigation appeared. She stopped at the desk and patted the receptionist’s shoulder. “I’ve got this.”

She gestured with her head for Mace to follow and waited till they were out of ear shot. “I was filled in on the idea. We’re meeting in a conference room back here.”

“Perfect. Lead the way.”

Down a couple hallways and Ripkiz stepped through a door. “Can I get you anything while we wait for the others?”

“I’m good for now, thank you though.”

Jewel stood outside the conference room for a min, she had cases to solve but DCI Pangolin was not working a case that he could not get away from. She was fine politics but she had a caseload at the moment that was very high, taking on another was not something she was interested in. She told Pangolin and had argued that she was given the right, by him to choose the cases she worked on. In the end she lost and he won.

Jewel did not smile when she entered, she rarely did when she was on duty. She was tall, in her mid to late forties, and in excellent shape, her black hair was braided to one side and a look that said she was not to be messed with. “I must apologize, on behalf of DCI Pangolin, he is currently indisposed and has sent me in his stead” she said holding out her hand. “DCI Jewel Stone Major Crimes Division.”

Alston reached out and took her hand. “Director Mace,” he said with a slight frown. That was an unexpected change, and as someone who worked on knowing all of the details, he did not like unexpected changes.

“Did he by chance give you any details of what we are looking to do? Or what has been going on so far?”

Jewel gave a firm shake, I’m afraid he was rather busy when he called, so no I have no idea what this is about at all” she noted.

“Of course not,” he said letting out a short laugh. “Alright, what do you know about Mr. Jones and his murder?”

• Mace

“Nothing, other than it happened, I’ve been working some other cases, Pangolin was holding it pretty close to the chest.” she said looking around the room.
