“If you want to go somewhere else, Gem, I know just the place.” Karina lifted Jewel’s hand and kissed the center of her palm. “You decide.”

“Yes, please take me away” she fake swooned. “Lets get out of here, this place is not my scene, though I’m sure my sister is having a blast. She noted.

Karina stood keeping ahold of her hand and led her back through the club and to the main door. The crowd was still thick waiting to get in still. Karina led her across the street and down several blocks. “I think you’ll like this place. Good food, music, and wonderful atmosphere. Without the wildness.” They turned down a well lit side street and there was a sign: Swing on By Lounge

They entered and were taken directly to a booth. Both a restaurant and a place to go dancing, it pulled from all the elements of a Terran jazz club while also looking like it could be from about anywhere. There was a stage in the corner, framed by luscious dark green velvet curtains, where a jazz quartet (with a guitar) was playing in front of a black and white tiled dance floor. The place was half-lit with sconces and candles which reflected off the polished gold surfaces. There was a long curved bar that looked like a piano and was lined with stools that had music notes for the supports between the legs. Faux windows were actually screens that displayed a sky scene, alternating between starscapes, sunset and other moody evening scenes.

“Ohhhhhh” she said squeezing Karina’s arm, “This is really nice, I’m going to like this place much better” she noted as she scooted in to the both, “Something fruity with out alcohol please.” she said to the waiter.

Karina slid into the booth beside her. “The same please,” she asked the waiter who nodded and disappeared. Karina laid an arm over the back of the booth so she could turn and see Jewel as they talked. “I’m glad you like it. There are many small places like this on Oed.” Her fingers idly played with the ends of Jewel’s hair.

Jewel tilted her hair a little as Karina played with it, the woman was not playing fair. “I mean I have lived her a long time, but I guess maybe I don’t get out much, I mean my job is my life and I guess i take that to the next life, to say I am the job is a joke to most people but I guess for me I’m like less me and more Chief Inspector” she said hardly pausing, “There is this one place around the corner though a little place where you cook your own food in a pot of oils and then sit around, its quiet and the atmosphere is very romaniticand, oh oh there is also a black by headquarters where you can get these odd alien dishes that I swear taste like Gyros” she finally was shut up but the waiter bring their drinks.

Karina shook her head, “Well I’ll just have to make sure you get out more, Chief Inspector, and just be Gem for awhile.” Karina turned and thanked the waiter, lifting her glass to her lips. It was bright, fresh, and very fruity. She hummed. “So good.”

Jewel loved that Karina seemed to help her find her calm, she had been trying to fight it was clear that if they both would let it the relationship would extend well beyond what either of them had indented. Jewel leaned her shoulder against Karina’s. “To being our selves more often” she said raising her drink.

“Much more often,” Karina agreed. The rest of the night was relaxed and fun. They talked, danced a little, enjoyed really good food. And sooner than Karina realized they were headed back toward their apartment building.

As they walked Jewel just enjoyed the time together, but as they approached the building she became more and more figitty, her hand playing with the belt of her purse.

Karina paused and tugged gently on Jewel’s hand to get her attention, but kept walking with her. “Why are you nervous?”

Enger, DOE

She looked at her and just squeezed her hand. “I don’t know, just It’s been an odd night” she said, “I had fun, i mean there was the drink, and then the roof, and then I felt really , well you know, and we went and ate, and now we are almost home and I’m ,, Uggghh” she said stopping. “Never mind” she said

Karina reached out and gently touched her cheek. “Okay. If that is what you want, we will forget it. But before we do,” Karina leaned in close, “I regret nothing.”

Enger, DOE

Jewel swallowed deep, “Oh”… ” I mean I was not meaning I did not have a good time,” she said looking at her.”I’m with you and when Im with you I want more, and I don’t no if we should have more, I mean we live in the same building and, I mean i just don’t want to ruin things, and then you’ll hate me and I can’t take it if you hate me.” she rambled with little sign of stopping.

Karina might be wrong, but she took that admission of wanting more as permission. If she was wrong she would apologize profusely and mean it. She cupped the back of Jewel’s neck and tugged her closer before slowly kissing her.

Jewel melted almost instantly into the kiss, karina felt her body relax into her, time that was now something that was hard to understand. There was only Karina now

Karina’s arm slipped around Jewel and held her closer. She ended the kiss gently and then kissed her temple and hugged her closely. “Better?”

Enger, DOE

Jewel only giggled at first, and then she responded. “Much better” she said then took her hand and moved into the building.

Karina walked with her stealing glances. She paused outside Jewel’s door. She lifted her hand and kissed the center of her palm. “Tonight was wonderful. I’m so glad we went. Good night, Beautiful Gem.”

Enger, DOE

Jewel did not want the night to end, there was no telling when the two of them would get this much time together. “You can come in for” she thought. “Some coffee if you want” she said smiling and stepping backwards through the threshold of the door

Karina stopped right at the door. “Jewel, you said you want to go slow, and if I come in…”

Enger, DOE

if she comes ill get what I want she thought but knew she needed to wait if she really wanted this to last. “I know” she said sadly and took hold of the door.
