Karina practically stumbled backwards as Tamsy grabbed her. “Please have a seat,” Karina said still trying to process what Tamsy had said. She spoke so fast, Karina didn’t quite catch it all. Unfortunately she caught “totally tell”, “love”, and “living togther”. She reminded Karina of Rondara, and that was both sweet and very sad. She took the food and set it on her desk. She’d message Jewel later to thank her. She took a seat across from Tamsy, in a single winged back chair. “It is nice to meet you, Tamsy,” Karina said in her careful measured and slightly mechanical voice. “Jewel says you are an environmentalist.”

“Oh thank you she said taking out her lunch and handing Karina the bag. “Sorry I tend to ramble, umm yes I love the environment, and Jewel says you manage all this ?” she said looking around amazed. “So, smooth move on the carnival date, Jewel wont shut up about it, best time she’s had in years, maybe ever I think she said. Wish someone would take me to a carnival all I ever get is a cheep meal and some guy trying to get me to go home with me, I honestly thought romance was dead but it’s so not, I’ve been living vicariously through my sister since you met”

Tansy was not just a bit much, she was A LOT. Karina couldn’t keep up with everything she was saying. She hadn’t felt this out of place with spoken language since she was a child. There was a question in there somewhere, she thought, but there was no chance to answer it. Karina was used to hyper children with never ending questions, but wow....

“Yes, it is very time consuming work. Right now I am here, but once we decide on a president I will move back to the government tower.” She reached for a glass of water. “I am glad she enjoyed it. The students worked very hard on it.”

“So”, Tamsy said her smile turned into narrowed eyes. “You going to treat my sister good?, ” she asked plainly. “She has had some real SH!T partners over the years only worried about their needs”

Karina smiled, “You are… sweet, Tamsy. I have known Jewel not a week. It is too soon to guess the future. I do not intend to hurt her.”

“I know, there is just something different this time, and,” she lowered her head. “You sound amazing, she can be a bit bull headed sometimes,” she paused. “Just I don’t know, be patient with her” she said.

“Thats good” she said her smiling returned.
,Held out her padd “my number” she said. She crosed her legs, “So, what would you like to k ow about Jewel?”

Karina took the PaDD and made a note. She shook her head as she returned the PaDD, “I want to know it all, but,” she held up her hand, “I want to learn it from her. There are no short cuts to connection.”

“That’s good, I like that” Tamsy said. “I’m not looking for you to marry her, or move in with her, though to be honest with the way both your schedules work, it might be the only way you see each other on the regular!” she jabbed, “But hey your call” she noted, “I just wanted to meet you really and I tend to just speak my mind! Life is to precious to play games right?” she asked

Karina nodded, “I agree. Less chance for confusion and misunderstanding.” She regarded her for a moment. “Do you have questions?”

“Jewel talks about you all the time, I feel like I know you a little already.” she noted, “we talk a couple times a day she and I pee’s in a pod. ” she giggled. “Anyway I don’t know what to ask, why don’t you tell me something about your self?” she asked.

Just then Karina got a message.

Before she could respond, Karina’s comm beeped. “A moment, I am sorry.” She stood and went to her desk.

sorry, she insisted, I hope at least the food made you happy

Ah, I see, <3 Karina wasn’t sure she did, but that was alright.

She returned to her chair. “I am from Vair, a world of telepaths. We are born mute. Spoken language is… unnatural for us.”

Tamsy looked at her, her voice and face filled with compassion . “That must be very difficult for you, does language feel slow?” she asked curiously

Picking up her glass she took a sip. “At times, yes. It is very…inefficient. Too much left unsaid, too much hidden in false meaning.”

Tamsy looked at here for a few seconds. “But if, ” she “how”, said “What” seemed like she could not get the words out. “I’m mean how do you keep mystery in your relationships if you know everything every time?” she asked.

Karina stared at Tamsy for a long time confusion clearly on her face. “We do not know everything all the time. I am not sure what you mean. Being open and honest builds connection and understanding. But we do not…have access to every thought all the time.”

Tamsy blushed her pale face turning red. “Oh, I” she paused “misunderstood. “Do you miss it?” she asked, she had to right, I mean what did that mean for Jewel who could not communicate that way.

“At times,” Karina said. “I have lived my whole life with my voice. It is easier for me than others. My father was an ambassador, my playmates were not all Cairn.”

she smiled. “Sorry if i’m being nosy, it just” he paused. “Seems lonely, I mean if i had to go from speaking to using sign language I could do it but” she paused “I would miss the speaking. It feels kinda like that.” she looked at the time she had promised Jewel only 30 minutes, Karina was supper busy. She had a few minutes.

“Mmm but there is beauty in sign language. Something lost allows room to gain something new and beautiful,” Karina said. She didn’t see it as a loss. Yes she missed it sometimes, but she didn’t resent not being able to use it. “The universe is too… big to be limited to one idea of beauty.”

Tamsy thought long about what she said then looked at the clock and stood. “I promised Jewel I would not take more than a half hour, I hope it works out with you too, you are going to be good for her” she said waiting for Karina to stand.

Karina stood with a genuine smile. “It was nice to meet you, Tamsy. Thank you for dropping the food off.”

Tamsy spoke: “Ofcourse,” she said once more tossing her self at Karina and giving her a big friendly hug. “Thank you for indulging a protective sister” she thanked as she released the hug, and then hips bouncing side to side she was gone.

Karina gave her a hug back and walked her to the door. “Any time.” After Tamsy left Karina sat down to eat the lunch. That was - interesting.

The day had gone long but she managed to pass of the remaining work to a couple others on her team, she stood at Karina’s door, flowers in hand and a nice bottle of a fruity non alcohol drink. She was almost always on call and never drank, well almost never. She knocked on the door, still in her work cloths badge still on her belt showing. it was 7:59

The door opened. “Come in. I am in the kitchen.” Karina’s voice carried through the door. The apartment layout was the same just flipped. Karina was in the kitchen carefully and precisely basting something. “I will be done in a moment.” It had to be done right.

She set the pan down and then turned to look at her. “Jewel,” she breathed.

Jewel stood in the door for a second , she had half expected not to see her tonight, she was now suddenly a bit nervous. Jewel made her way to the kitchen, sat the bottle and the flowers on counter. As she saw Karina the nerves vanished. “Hi” she said softly and walked over to where she was.

Karina smiled, “Hello Beautiful. Was your day any better?” She did not ask for details, just how she was doing. She finished what she was doing and the pan into the oven and closed the door. “There, we have 10 minutes until it is done.”

“Beautiful, I like the sound of that” she noted. “It was ok I at least finished at a reasonable hour for once” she said moving over to her. “How was your day?” she asked

Karina put her arms around Jewel, “Other than being am… am… bu… shed by a very hyper and very loyal sister and missing you, it was quiet today.”

Jewels arms wrapped around Karina, “She is all of that and , its likely not the last time” she said , “I’ve been thinking about you all day” she said her eyes moving between Karinas eyes and her full lips.

Jewel leaned in and gave her a soft kiss, and then smiled. “If we get to what i’m thinking we wont eat dinner” she teased.

Karina stepped back just slightly, so she could lift Jewel’s palm to her lips and place a lingering kiss there. “Hmmm I would very much like that, but,” she kissed her palm again before stepping back, “you have said you do not eat. My job to care for you.”

Jewel touched the side of her face, “we take care of eachother” she said and moved to the table. “What are we eating?”

Karina’s eyes closed at the soft touch, like she was trying to hold on to the feeling. “Grilled Cocoa & Mushroom Bear, Steamed Yogurt Flatbread, and Marinated Apples & Mustard Pie.” Karina led her over to the table and pulled out a chair. “What do you want to drink?”

Jewel took the seat with a smile. “Thank you” she said sliding her seat forward. “I’ll take some of the bubbly fruit drink I brought it’s got a little tang to it which should go nice with the meal?”

Karina brushed Jewel’s hair back before stepping away into the kitchen. She came back with two chilled glasses and the bottle Jewel had brought. She opened it and poured them each a glass. “Do I have your parents to see in my office tomorrow?” she asked with a grin.

Jewels head tried to chase her touch as she moved her hair out of the way. She smirked. “maybe” she said and then let out a little snort and a laugh. “No they are retired and I think off world taking some world tour, I think they are going to be at Risa soon. ” If tamsy blabbed which she did then Jewel would be getting a call from mom sooner rather than later.

Karina grinned. “Well unless my family takes a vacation you are safe.” She stood up and moved to the kitchen. She pulled the pan out of the oven, the aroma of roasted meat wafted from the kitchen. Food was quickly plated and then carried to the table.

Jewel waited for Karina to sit and start eating before she did, choseing to sip her drink in the mean time. She was so happy to finally be spending time with her. she looked at the food it smelled amazing.

Karina sat across from her and nodded at the plate with a grin. “I promise it is edible.”

Jewel was starving she dug into the food, “mmmmmffh” she moaned around the bite. “This is so good, where did you learn to make it?” she asked wondering if this was technically there second date.

Karina smiles as Jewel eats and obviously enjoys it. “It is a dish from home. My… hmmm mother’s mother, taught me.”

Jewel was not sure what to say, she ate her food quietly for a bit and then eventually broke the silence. “How long before the building is repaired.” she asked.

Karina shook her head. “Months. The whole building is gone. Everything has to be cleared and then completely rebuilt.”

Jewel looked at her plate, ” I’m sorry, that means your going to be really busy,” she noted. “I will be too, I picked up a high profile case that is going to need a lot of attention.” she said taking another bite.

Karina briefly set a hand over Jewels. “Yes, but it is the job. We both know that. It makes this,” she waved between them, “more precocious.”

Jewel smiled, “It does, and I’m rather enjoying the little back and forths during the day, it keeps my spirits up.” she said . “Reminds me how much I enjoy you!” she looked over after taking her last bite. “If you could go anywhere right now, just up and take a few weeks, where would you go?”

Karina smiled, “I do enjoy it also.” She tipped her head, “Hmmm… my bed?” she laughed. “Really, right now it would be lucshury,” the word Luxury came out a bit slurred but was clear enough. “I think I would like to Babel. So much history there. So many decisions that shape our society.” She grinned, “In reality it is probably very borning.”

Jewels cheeks flushed when she mentioned her bed, she would like that, a lot , but it was to soon. “Mmmmy room service, uninterrupted room service, with a view and a pool , and a beach, and shopping and oh oh , spa day!:” she said melting back into her seat, if Babel has that I’m in!” she said. ” I sense a necessary mental health leave coming on.” she played knowing she would not be able to get away until the team was able to operate without her.

Karina shook her head, “I do not know. If you want all that, I will take you to Risa. It is a bit…over done but they have a reputation for a reason.”

Jewel smiled at here, “I would love to spend a weekend away, just about anywhere you and I could get to know each other better” she said her voice shy and longing for it to be true.

Karina finished her last bite on a little laugh. “I do not have time to travel to Babel for just a weekend. There is a new resort opening on the orbital platform in a month.”

Jewel smiled and stood up, moving across the room to take a seat in her lap. Her arm tossed around her. Looking down at her she smiled. “I could care less where I am, as long as I’m with you” she said leaning over to kiss her on the forehead.

Karina kissed her cheek, while slowly running her fingers through Jewel’s hair. “You do not know that yet. You have no been in an enclosed space with me. I could be grumpy, messy, or critical of mess.” She took one of Jewel’s hands and kissed the palm, “but I like the idea of you being with me.”

Jewel eyes closed as the shocks ran through her at the soft kiss of Karina on her palm, shoulders shruged. She looked at Karina eyes soft and almost intoxicated looking. “Are you” she said softly, leaning in kise the top of Karina’s hand.

Karina shrugged, letting the movement tighten her arms around Jewel. “I do not know. I’ve never had a roommate except my sister. And she complains about everything.”

Jewel traced her face with her hand, “I can manage a couple days if your a tyrant” she chuckled, leaning down she kissed her softly, she could not hold herself back anymore since the last time they kissed it had been the only thing she thought about.

Karina’s hands slid around her, pulling her in closer. She was gentle, feather light, a sweet caress before deepening into a hint of hunger.

After lingering in it for a few minutes Jewel pulled away. restraint she thought she was falling to fast and needed to toss on the breaks before it went to far. “Would like to go for a walk?” she asked.

Karina kept her hands on Jewel’s waist as she stood to steady her. Then she stood. “I would like that very much.”

Jewel gave her another soft kiss and the smiled. “Yay” she explained. ” There is that park near by” she mentioned.

Karina laughed, an adoring look on her face. She draped a spare coat over Jewel’s shoulders, “Come my Gem. I want to see you in the quiet moonlight.”

Jewel sunk into the jacked and her arms, “You know” she said as they walked. “How on a really good book you want to skip to the end because you know it’s going to be amazing? But if you did it would some how ruin it?”

“Yes.” Karina smiled as she led Jewel out of the building. “But it is the journey that makes the end amazing. If you did not know what struggles had happened to get to the end, it would be rather pre… predictable.”

“Yes that” she said and sank into Karina as they walked, she just wanted to be close to enjoy being eith her.

Karina leaned her head against Jewel for a moment. She led them towards the small park and along the paths. There weren’t really any private side paths. This park was too small. But it was still lovely. Karina didn’t feel the need to talk, she just enjoyed the silence, the cool breeze, the moon light, and especially the woman next to her.

Jewel sighed a few times as they walked through the park, she looked at Karina a few times, just side glances and stolen smiles. She held her arm tight afraid that the woman next to here would be taken away from her.

Karina squeezed Jewel’s arm, keeping her close. “I really like spending time with you, Jewel.” She lifted her hand gently, and kissed the center of her palm.

Jewel let out a soft moan, her eyes closing. She had a hard time thinking when Karina did that it was so different from what she was used to it sent shivers all through her. “I too” is all that came out in the rush of it.

Karina smiled, almost smirked as if she knew what effect she was having. She walked slowly with Jewel, in no rush. But she knew how early Jewel got up for work.

Just then Coms came through she reluctantly answered. “Sorry” she said. =^= “Stone” =^= she said a voice could be heard on the other end, rather excited. Jewel cast glances at Karina know that she was going to have to say good by. =^= “Thank you Inspector, I’m on my way” =^=

She looked at Karina,”I’m sorry I have to go. Quick walk me to my apartment?” she asked she had to change into something more professional.

“With all haste, My Gem.” Karina turned, cutting across the park with her, making a direct line back to their building and then up to Jewel’s floor. She stopped just before it. She turned and lifted Jewel’s palm to her mouth again. “Stay safe.”

Jewels eyes narrowed as karina kissed her palm, “I will” she said holding her hand and pulling her to her mouth. Jewel kissed her with passion letting her self go into the feeling for the short time she had. This kiss was soft but full of passion.

Karina’s fingers found their way into Jewel’s hair and held her close as she explored their kiss. Far too soon she was pulling away. “Good night Beautiful Gem.” She kissed her again, once, briefly. Then she stepped away and down the corridor.

Jewel watched her go, at least they had gotten some time together.

It was 5am when she was opening the door to her apartment another complex robbery that needed processing this was the 4th in under a month and they all fit the same mo.

Karina was at the gym at their agreed upon time. She didn’t think Jewel would be there after being called in, but she wasn’t going to miss the opportunity on an assumption.

Jewel passed out on her sofa with a half typed message stating she was to tired to do the gym today and to meet her on the roof tonight if she could. She sent it at 12pm with an apology explaining what happened.
