Stone walked into the Starfleet Complex she had never been too impressed with starfleet they seemed to have their own agenda and oly really supported the less conformed colonies when it suited them. Jewel was lost in this place she could never find her way without asking someone for help. She made her way to information desk and flashed her badge.“Chief Inspector Stone” she said letting the person at the desk see her credentials. “I’m here to see Jonathan McBride” she said looking at her notes.

“One moment,” the ensign at the desk said. She referenced her computer and smiled at Stone. Chief Inspector Stone, you’re cleared to see Captain McBride. His yeoman will be out in a moment to escort you after you pass through the security screening,” she said, gesturing to the set of discreet step-through scanners ahead.
Said screening was simply a small walk-though affair monitored by a pair of security officers.
“Thank you” she said as she closed her badge and put it away, putting her shield on her belt.
A moment later, a younger man who at first appeared Human approached in a command red uniform with NCO rank. “Inspector? I’m Yeoman Wallace. Captain McBride is available. If you’ll follow me…” he said with a warm smile.
“Thank you Yeoman,” she said following the man, this place was large, she felt out of place with all the Starfleet personnel around. The sooner she got out of her the better.
As they moved away from the large and open entrance lobby it became evident that the large hexagonal building was constructed around an interior courtyard. Various personnel could be seen at tables and benches, enjoying the fresh air and garden space. Though the walls were made of a fairly standard modular material, the colour was a pale bleu-grey and some sections seemed to have something of a texture to them, lending a cosier feel than standard bulkheads might have. There were art pieces, and scientific images, along with photographs from a good chunk of Oed’s history scattered along.Veering to the left and down a small corridor, Wallace stopped at the end and knocked on the door and opened it, stepping inside but allowing Stone to pass. “Chief Inspector Stone for you Captain,” he said.
Inside the modest office, McBride was at his corner desk, with one side facing out so he could have guests. Two chairs sat on the other side. Behind him was a stretch of windows along the exterior that wrapped around the other corner and led the eye to a sitting area with a replicator. There was a door just next to the that that led to a small washroom. Adjacent to his desk area was a sitting area comprised of a loveseat and a couple of arm chairs. Sat in the corner was a bookcase with few family photos, a couple trophies from his racing days. Sitting on the top of said bookcase and trailing down was a fake plant.
“Thank you, Delen,” McBride said, flashing a curious smile. Jonathan himself was a tall and lean man with pale blue eyes and a mop of brown hair just tamed into submission enough to meet regulations. He offered a warm smile at the newcomer as he rose to his feet. He had a youthful energy to him as he moved around the desk, though he was clearly experienced enough to have made it to the rank of Captain.
Wallace stepped out, leaving the pair alone. Jonathan gestured to the sitting area. “Inspector, please have a seat. I have to admit you have me curious about whatever security issue has the Oed Police paying a visit.”

Stone was in a dark pant suit with a white collared blouse, the top two buttons opened. A dark blazer the matched the bands and shoes that were stylish but comfortable. She sat down and crossed her legs, one knee on the other. “Thank you Sir” she said as she sat. “I believe I’m bring good news” she said folding her arms in her lap. She pulled up the missing persons report. “You filed this some time ago, ” she said handing him the pad, “We believe we have found her, here on OED we are running genetics but we are confident it’s her.” she said letting it sink in a little. “She’s ok but being cared for at Sacred Heart” she noted and waited for him to respond.

Jonathan blinked. As a seasoned Starfleet officer and former stunt pilot, he was used to being tossed information that he hadn’t been expecting that he then had to do something with. Not unexpectedly, nothing could have prepared him for the information she so casually laid before him. Taking the PADD and glancing at the report he had filed twenty years ago, McBride stared at it a moment before looking back over at Stone.
He opened his mouth to say something and then shook his head, sucking in a breath. “Evelyn is here, on Oed?” That couldn’t be a coincidence. “How? Why? She’s in the hospital? Can I see her?” His mind raced with the multitudes of questions that had run through his brain for years, but more than anything he needed to set eyes on his sister, to prove to himself it was her.

Stone nodded. “Sorry Sir, I could not really think of a way to soften the information” she said noting his response, it seemed like genuine concern interest to her. “She is, but she’s malnourished, but being nursed back to health, she has agreed to see you, she’s be trying to build up the confidence for awhile now, there is footage of her following you, took us a day or so to put two and two together.” She stood “There is something else” she said wanting him to prepare himself.

Following him? She was looking for him. But why didn’t did she just call him? His mind multiplied the questions and he had to wrench himself back to the present moment and focus on Stone. He blew out a breath. “I’m a Starfleet Captain, Inspector. Best to just lay it all out for me.”

Stone looked at him, they all said that and then there knees gave out. She watched him for signs as she told him. “She’s in the maternity ward, Sir” she paused only briefly. “She’s pregnant.” she finished.

Jonathan blinked and then nodded his head slowly. “Okay… and the father? I take it she’s here alone if she’s been following me around and the police are coming to me and not her.” She had been sixteen when he had lost seen his sister. A lot could have happened in that time. For all he knew she had settled somewhere and had a spouse and home full of kids. Anything was possible.

Stone was not one to keep her mouth shut and she had not been asked too. “Sir she, is a lone, scarred and as best as we can tell, on the run from a bad organization, we don’t know much about them, but we are preparing to put her into protective care, you may not be able to see her after that.” she sized him up as if looking to see if he was a tyrant. “She seemed to think you would not want anything to do with her, she’s scared that you’ll reject her” she noted.

At that pronouncement, the mask of Captain McBride fell and his expression sank. “Oh Ev, on no.” He rose to his feet and stepped over to the window that overlooked the front of the Complex. When he looked back at Stone, there was nothing short of heartbreak in her eyes. “She was sixteen when she disappeared, Inspector. Sixteen.”
His eyes hardened. “It was those people, those friends of hers, wasn’t it? I knew there was something odd about them. We were never allowed to meet them and she spent less and less time at home. I had just graduated from the Academy and was getting ready to go on my first posting. Evelyn was… different. Lost in her imagination. It was like she was speaking another language the way she was talking about touching the universe and finding enlightenment. I tried to humour her but when I asked too many questions, she flipped on me, got really angry. Our last conversation I told her that I and our parents were worried about her and she lashed out, told me to stay out of her business. I tried to let her know we loved her and that we just wanted her to be safe and happy, but we had… concerns about her friends. That’s when she stormed off telling me she never wanted to see me again.”
“Its an ongoing investigation, I’m unable to comment on that at this time Sir” she noted and then let him continue.
He shook his head, wondering if he could have said something else, done something else. He’d replayed this same litany of thoughts over and over again over the years. If. What if. But it was pointless. It had happened and they had lost her.
Moving back to the sofa, he sat down, eyes full of hope. Sadness too, but hope “She’s here. And if she’s on the run from them, then all I ever would have said to her is how glad I am to see her. I wish she had assumed that but I can understand her being worried. Twenty years is a long time to not know your family, not know what you’re walking back into. She has no idea that our mother cried every single day for a year and has never been the same since.”
“But Evelyn was sixteen. Too young to know much about anything. I’ve missed my sister ever day since then and if she needs help, then I want to be there for her and make sure she gets it.” A soft smile graced his face. “And I guess that means I’m going to be an uncle, huh?” He shook his head in amazement.

Stone looked at him compassion and concern seeped through her otherwise stoic mask. “I’m not a counselor but, I see it a lot , people say things they don’t mean and then are to scarred that the person will not for give them. ” she said . “Is to walk into the room, toss your arms around her and tell her how happy you are that she is back, that you love her, and that you miss her. ” he looked at him, that’s what she would want anyway. “But I’m not sure I’m the best to advise much.” she suggested as she waited for him to be ready to go.
