She took the id ranit against the chip. Made a scan of the chip for evidence later if he changed his mind. “Well that is very generous of you Sir, ” she noted handing him his ID and the chip back. “I sent you your incident response number as well as a number you can call if you have questions. Please enjoy the rest of your stay here on Oed” she noted and then went back to the woman and released the other constable. “I got her, thanks” he said

Kosylic went off, no doubt with an exciting tale to tell his spouse.

“Ok Ms, lets get you on your feet” she said helping her up since her hands were cuffed. She walked her quietly back to her car and sat her down on the back seat with the door open so she could sit with her legs on the ground and her shoulder against the seat for support. =^= “Blackwood, request medical team for suspect evaluation” =^= she said opening the trunk, there was some bottled water and some small protein bars. She leaned in. “I’m going to take these off you ok, don’t make me regret it” she said her eyes saying she meant business. She took the cuffs off, handed her the water and the protein bar.

Her request was acknowledged and EMTs were dispatched.

The woman said nothing but nodded a tiny bit. She rolled her wrists and accepted the water and the protein bar. She struggled to open it, but managed andsipped on the water, trying to not guzzle it.

“What’s your name Miss” she asked her while she waited for the medics to arrive.

~Constable Blackwood

It was inevitable. She knew once they scanned her face into the system, the previous misdemeanour would come up. As would the fine. There was no use hiding it from the constable. She sighed. “My name is Stellaris. I’m sure you would have found that out very soon anyway,” she said softly before ripping open the wrapper on the protein bar. It smelled good! Too healthy for her tastes, but good. She hadn’t eaten in four days and once again forced herself to have some restraint. She nibbled on it, but really could have gobbled the whole damn thing in four bites if she had really wanted to. At least she might nt pass out now. That would be even more embrassing than all of this already was.

~Stellaris

“Stellaris” she said, “Thank you” she said scanning her face. Looking over the report, “Well Ms Stellaris, it appears this is number two, you still have 3 days on the fine, but your not allowed to offend in that time.” Blackwood said. “I’m guessing you can’t pay the fine or you would not have tried a lift on that guy.” she really did not want to take her to jail, maybe she would take treatment and could at least have a few nights in the hospital. “I’m likely going to have take you in” she said. “But maybe given your situation the judge will go easy.” she said trying to give the woman some hope.

Stellaris bowed her head and forced back tears. It was all over now. She was done for.

It wasn’t but a handful of minutes before the large medical slider pulled up in front of Blackwood’s vehicle. Two EMTs got out carrying their bags and approached. “You called for an eval?”

Dr. Fayth, DoMSS

She looked at the young woman, “Suspect is mid 30s, malnourished, and I think may be pregnant, she has been sipping on water and nibbling on the protein bar” she said stepping aside, she only hoped the woman would not refuse treatment

~Constable Blackwood

The EMTs moved closer and the woman squatted down. “Hi, my name’s Elaine. Would it be alright if I did a quick medical check?”

Dr. Fayth, DoMSS

Stellaris set the water and protein bar to the side and gazed at them warily. A part of her wanted to know how bad things were, but the rest of her already assumed the worst. She really didn’t want them to, but it was another of those inevitable occurrences. At length, she nodded, tucking some of her strawberry-blond hair behind an ear and tried to look less intimidated than she actually was.

“We won’t hurt you, I promise.” The woman smiled as she pulled a tricorder out and rand the scanner over the woman.

A basic scan would show the woman was dehydrated, borderline hypoglycemic, and anemic. She was indeed pregnant, and though she visually appeared perhaps around 16 weeks, her fetus was (while on the smaller side) actually 28 weeks. Especailly given her later stage of pregnancy, her weight should have been quite a bit higher for her size and build, but she was currently weighing 53.5 kgs (~118 lbs). There was plenty of evidence of fatigue and that she had probably not slept well in quite a long time.

There were a couple bruises on her upper back and a scrap beneath her dress from when she had fallen to the ground.

~Stellaris

The medic picked up the water and protein bar and handed them to her. “Go ahead and finish that. You’re very dehydrated. You are also showing signs of hypoglycemia and anemia, and you’re underweight. But we can take care of all of that. Will you let us take you to the hospital?”

Did she want to? Not really. But it was probably better than a prison cell. Her hope of staying out of any system had vanished when she was arrested the first time, but “Okay,” Stellaris said softly. She reached for the water and took a bigger sip before returning to the protein bar. She tried hard to look nonchalant as she took a bigger bite than before, her stomach gurgling at the promise of food finally.

The woman very gently patted her knee. “You’ll be alright. We’ll take care of you, I promise.” She stood and moved back toward the ambulance for the gurney.

The male EMT turned to Blackwood and motioned her a short distance away. “She needs medical care. We need to get her into the ambulance so we can start fluids and treatment. You can ride along or follow us. Assuming she consents.”

Lt. Cmdr. Fayth, DoMSS

Mary looked at him and smiled. “I was hoping you would say that, I would rather she spend the night in the hospital rather than a cell while I figure out what’s going on. “I have to cuff her to the bed, she has been checked no weapons, your clear to transport” she noted, he can transport me anytime she thought , then shook it off.

She smiled and gave her a little wink like he could hear what she was thinking. Then he turned to help his partner.

As the small amount of food and subsequent sugar got into her system, she felt the baby kick again. It had been awhile, but she honestly hadn’t known how often was even normal. She placed a hand on her small belly and rubbed it. A tiny foot pressed against her palm and tears sprang to her eyes. All she had wanted was to keep the baby safe and look at how that had gone. She was a terrible mother, a failure! The baby would likely be better off with someone else, she was sure of it.

~Stellaris

“Hey,” the man said in a very soft and comforting way. “It’s okay. You and your baby will be safe and healthy. We’re going to make sure. Alright?”

Stellaris lifted her head and met the his eyes, her own showing just how much she didn’t believe him. Okay? Nothing was okay. She gave a half shrug and dropped her gaze.

Once they had gotten her on the the gurney, Mary cuffed only one hand, she had too it was protocol. “I’ll be right behind you ok, I know things seem bad but I know a few people who might be able to help you ok” she said placing hand on the woman’s arm. “It’s going to be ok” he said her voice almost motherly. Something was not right she could feel it in her bones, she would talk to her more at the hospital and maybe give DS Holt a call to help her if he could.

~Constable Blackwood

Humiliation wasn’t even the right word to express what was flowing through her as she was cuffed to the gurney. Shame was. Deep and utter shame.

They lowered the gurney to a comfortable height for the woman to sit easily and then helped her to lay down. They weren’t happy with the cuff, but they also knew it was protocol and didn’t object. Inside the ambulance the man asked for her basics. Name, age, emergency contact and basic medical information. The woman draped a blanket over her and gave her plenty of pillows. She attached a small round disk to the woman’s abdomen. “It’s fetal monitor. You’ll be able to hear the heart beat in just a moment.” She tapped on one of the onboard screens and then suddenly the back of the large slider was filled with the rapid heartbeat of her baby. Then she started an infusion unit to help with the dehydration. “Are you in any pain?”

Dr. Fayth, DoMSS

Mary moved to and sat in her sled waiting for the EMT to begin transport. =^=” Suspect in transit to ER, Custody EMT, Blackwood” =^=

she pulled pup the datapad and began running through the scan results to see what she could find. A name a current resident something. She pinged DS Holt gave him a description of the situation to see if he could help with it. He replied that he was on a case at the moment but would run a few check when he got back.

She didn’t give them nearly the complete info they had been looking for. She told them her name was Stellaris and that she was 37 years old. She had no emergency contact and she confirmed she was 28 weeks pregnant. Other than that, she gave them nothing more.

But as the sound of her baby’s heart beat sounded in the space, the question about pain didn’t even register. Something within her broke and she started sobbing, adn once it started Stellaris didn’t know how to stop. “I should never have left!” she wailed, before her sobs continued.

~Stellaris

~Constable Blackwood

The woman set a gentle hand over hers. She looked at her partner and nodded to him. “Is there someone you want us to call? Everything you tell us is confidential.” On the other side her partner was contacting Sacred Heart.

Oh how she wanted to! But she couldn’t. It wasn’t safe. Stellaris shook her head, but the questions allowed her sobbing to subside. “There’s no one I can call.” It wasn’t entirely true, which was why she was on Oed in the first place, but try as she had, she hadn’t been able to attempt the contact.

When they arrived, Ok’jiv and Nurse Shrine were waiting for them. The EMTs repaid her information in a quick efficient manner as Ok’jiv and Shrine took over and wheeled her into a private room.

Dr. Fayth, DoMSS

Mary followed the EMT’s all the way there =^=”Blackwood onsite, Memorial, escorting suspect.”=^=,

“When we get to the room, I’ll take the cuff’s off and wait outside.” she said.

~Constable Blackwood

Stellaris had fallen silent as she was moved into the hospital and avoided eye contact with anyone. She could feel the curious stares, especially of some of the patients, after they saw her cuffed to the bed. In the private room though, everything became quieter and suddenly she felt like she could breathe. Finally she wasn’t a spectacle.

“What happens now?” Stellaris asked.

~Stellaris

“Well” Marry said removing the cuffs, “I’ve made a few calls, I’m trying to get you out of this. ” she said with compassion. “Is there anything you can think of that forced you to do what your were doing?” she asked securing he cuffs back in there holder.

~Constable Blackwood

She had absolutely no reason to trust a cop of all people, but something about lying there flat on her back in the market had shifted something. Was it resignation? Was it disappointment (in herself)? Something made everything feel futile. And yet, when she felt her baby move and then heard that beautiful heart beat, she knew that it wasn’t about her anymore. Her baby deserved the best of everything. Maybe it would be her who would provide it, maybe it wouldn’t, but until she gave birth it was up to her to protect this child and the reality was that she couldn’t do it alone anymore.

Tears in her eyes, Stellaris sighed. “I was earning a bit of money in a job I had, but I lost the job. He didn’t say it was because I was pregnant, but then I started showing more and I think he figured it out and didn’t nat to waste his time with me. It wasn’t like it was a good job or anything. I just… I don’t have anywhere to go. I bought food with the last of my money and that was four days ago. I lost my space at a rooming house last week.” At least she places she had found to sleep at night had been at least not too sketchy. “I was desperate and stupid and I made another mistake trying to steal from that guy.” She looked away, disgusted with herself. “I knew it would be hard, but… I thought I could start over here. I was so very wrong. And now I’ve screwed everything up.” She looked back at the constable. “You know what? It doesn’t even matter what happens to me. I just need my baby to be safe. Can you promise that? Because honestly I don’t think anyone can, so maybe you should send to me jail. I’d probably be better off there,” she said, her bitter tone ringing in her own ears.
