Ashran piloted the shuttle and landed it on the small pad on the edge of the activity. They had been busy while Caitlyn and he had been away. “They are really moving. Are you going to help cook tonight?” He asked as he guided her off the shuttle.

“Yes, I have really enjoyed working with everyone. But first I need to talk to Lord Capall. I know you want to see Susie…”

“I’ll take you.” Ashran scanned the area and spotted the 3 couples in the middle of it all. He led Caitlyn over.

“Caitlyn!” Revna spotted her first and hurried over to hug her. “How did it go? Are you alright?” Caitlyn looked flushed and nervous.

“Yes, yes, just a long day. I think it was promising though. I umm… Capall? Could… could I speak with you a moment?” Ashran met the other man’s gaze and grinned but looked at Caitlyn with heavy brotherly concern. Caitlyn had told him what had happened.

Capall looked at Rune with a questioning look, but said “Of course. Allow me.” He tooker hand and set it on his arm and began to guide her away from the bustling setting up and prepping of temporary housing; leading her to a dining area of dozens of picnic tables all laid out. He helped her find her seat, sat across from her, and said “Okay, we are alone… at least mostly. What can I do for you?” he asked.

Capall McKenzie

Caitlyn gripped her hands together. Maybe this wasn’t such a good idea. Oh but she wanted to. She felt like she was asking her father to go on her first date, all over again. “The Governor asked me to have dinner with him tomorrow night.” She tugged her lower lip with her teeth. “At his private residence, not the Governor’s mansion. He said he doesn’t give the address out, but that I could give it to you, so someone would know where I was.”

Capall’s eyes widened in surprise. “Um… okay. Well… I… um…” he stammered for a few moments as his brain tried to catch up. This was not a conversation he had expected to be having with her… ever. “Um, would you be more comfortable speaking to Runa about this? I mean, you can still tell me where you will be… but… you know… matters like this aren’t really my forté.”

Capall McKenzie

Caitlyn could tell she had made him uncomfortable. She felt wary now and equally bad for putting him on the spot. She would much have preferred to tell Ashran, and really she could. Kenzo couldn’t stop her, but she wanted to respect his privacy and security. “N… no. There isn’t really anything to tell. I just didn’t want to go somewhere where no one knew where I was. Old anxieties don’t die.”

“I’m sorry, Lord Capall, I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable. I don’t have to tell you. I don’t want to put you in an even more uncomfortable position. Put of the options you were the only one I trusted.” She blew out a breath, “Sorry, sorry. I’m not trying to convince you.”

Dillon, Director, The House Sanctuary

Capall cursed silently. That wasn’t what he had meant. He took a breath and then said “No, no. You didn’t put in anything. I just wasn’t expecting to be discussing you… um… and your… err.. ‘social’ life.” In his mind he asked why Mike had put him in a leadership role in the clan. A role where people would come to him and… and then it struck him. Because he trusts you to look out for and care for the clan. And this is part of that, whether you like it or not. He took a breath and reached out and took Caitlyn’s hand.

“Alright. First and foremost. Is this something you really want to do? Or do you feel obligated because he asked and he is the Governor? Because you most certainly are not. And I’ll say that to the man’s face if need be.”

Capall McKenzie

Caitlyn didn’t want to discuss her social life anymore than he did. She trusted him though. After the months on the Beck and working simulations with him. His statement made her feel better. “O know you would. And Yes, it is something I want to do. I promise,” and Capall she wouldn’t do that lightly, “if it wasn’t this would be a much different conversation.”

Dillon, Director, The House Sanctuary

Capall watched her carefully as she spoke and then said “Very well. Go ahead and let me know where you will be and what time you expect to be back. If plans change, send me a note. And… and I’m glad to see you doing this. I know it’s a big step for you. So… congratulations.”

“Thank you.” She meant it, the sincerity was obvious. It may seem like a small thing, but his help was making something daunting possible for her. She reached into her pocket and searched her comm for Kenzo’s contact information. She set it down for Capall to read. “A shuttle is coming around 6:40. I am not sure how long, but I expect 3 hours.”

Dillon, Director, The House Sanctuary

Capall said “However long you like, don’t worry about the time. I will be available.” Another thought occurred to him. “Not to sound too out of bounds or intrusive, but do you have something to wear? You are dining with the Governor, after all. I’m sure my wife would help you with that, if you like.”

Capall McKenzie

Caitlyn obviously hadn’t thought about that. Her face went blank and then she looked flustered. She had the suit she was wearing, but she hadn’t bought anything ‘date’ worthy since before. “Yes, I imagine Lady Runa would. I would be grateful.”

Dillon, Director, The House Sanctuary

Capall said “Relax. We’ve got you. I’ll be right back. Ten seconds.” and he stood and waved to towards Runa and gestured for her to come over.

Runa was of course curious, her sisters as well, as to what Caitlyn needed to talk about. They had established the House, and all three of them were very protective of the residents. She wouldn’t pry; she was just glad Caitlyn felt like she could confide in someone. Of course it may be a simple logistical question.

When Capall waves her over, she put down the crate she was moving and made her way over. “Is everything alright?”

Runa

Capall actually smiled. “Oh, aye.” he said calmly, but his face showed his surprise, shock… and amusement. “Ms. Dillon here just needs your assistance. She has a date tomorrow evening, with the Governor, and would like your assistance finding something to wear.” His voice was calm and even; as if the request was a common, everyday occurance. The last thing he wanted was for Caitlyn to get nervous… or rather, more nervous than he knew she probably was already.

Runa’s eyes went up and she glanced at Caitlyn and grinned. “Of course,” she said calmly, but her expression was hopeful. This was good. She kissed Capall’s cheek. He would have to explain later why Caitlyn spoke to him.

Runa went over to Caitlyn. “Hi Caitlyn. Let’s see if we can find your trunk or would you like to go back into the city and get something new?

Caitlyn hadn’t even thought of that. Something new sounded nice, but she’d had enough of the city for now. “Let’s see what I have.” Runa took her hand and led her off toward where Ashran and the others were setting up a large tent for themselves.

Runa

Capall called after them “And remember that Alathide has fabric and can sew!” He then sat down, PaDD in hand, and began tapping commands. In ten minutes, he had accessed the CIA’s surveillance network, uploaded a monitoring program that would track all vehicle and transporter traffic to and from the location Caitlyn had given him for the time frame she said and an hour on either side, and an automated alert if her signal was ever more than fifty meters from the location.
