Jason’s parents would be arriving soon. They could be docking now. Hannah wasn’t sure what day they were arriving, but the three week window was quickly closing. She’d gone back to work that day, but she wasn’t quite ready. It had felt great to do something, but after her surprise visitor she wasn’t feeling well. After Jason had gotten her home she had called Cmdr Fayth and asked for a few more days. They had been granted without question.

Jason had been called away to his office. Hannah had gone out to the balcony for awhile. She loved it out there, but today it did little to soothe her. She was frustrated with herself for being angry all over again. She had to have a psych eval this week anyway. She pulled out her combadge and tapped it. =/\=Asimina to Mika.=/\=

Hannah

=/\= Mika here. What do you need, Hannah? =/\= her voice was calm and questioning, with a little concern.

Mika was in her office, in between patients. It was busy as always, but things had levelled off as everyone found their groove. She waited for Hannah’s response. Part of her hoped Hannah just wanted a friendly meetup, but with all the woman had been through, Mika didn’t think that would be it.

=/\=Well to be quite honest, I’m feeling a bit lonely and cooped up and nervous. We were supposed to get together, but then…” she hesitated, it still hurt some, “I was sick. I know it’s spur of the moment, but I was wondering if you had time?=/\= Hannah had been through a lot, and she probably did need to talk about her surprise visitor, but really she just wanted a friend. Mika was the only one she had right now. Hannah made friends easily, but none knew her like Mika did, and she just wanted to feel normal for a bit.

Hannah

Mika breathed a little sigh of relief. =/\= I have time, after my shift today. Does that work? =/\= she asked into the comm.

~ Mika

=/\=Sure. Just tell me where to meet you, and I’ll see you then.=/\= That gave Hannah a few hours to try and not go stir crazy.

Hannah

=/\= The square outside the hospital. We’ll meet up and decide what to do from there. =/\=

The rest of Mika’s shift went fast. The business helped. When the end of her day came around, she grabbed her things and hurried out to the square, picked a bench, and waited for Hannah.

Hannah left a little early so she could take her time walking. She could have called a slider, but she enjoyed the walk. She commed Jason and told him where she was going. He seemed to worry, and that both made her smile and comforted her. There was a part of her that didn’t want to go to the square again, but Hannah was far too stubborn to let sad memories dictate her present or future. She spotted Mika as she came through the square and headed over. “Mika!” she waved and then hugged her friend when she reached her.

Hannah

Mika hugged Hannah and smiled. “It’s been a while. How have you been?” She asked politely, waving for Hannah to sit down with her.

Hannah sat beside her friend and glanced around the park. “I’ve certainly been better, but I don’t think I’ve ever been worse. Not to say I’m not happy. It’s been a roller coaster.” She grinned suddenly and held up her left hand, a beautiful engagement ring on her finger. “Jason proposed.”

Hannah

Mika smiled a huge smile. “That’s great! I’m happy for you.” She said, admiring the ring. “As long as things are getting better, I’m sure you’ll be fine.” She smiled again.

Hannah nodded. “Mika, I’m so happy, I don’t know how to describe it.” Her hands fluttered about in a poor attempt to even describe it that. Then she sighed, but it was a content sound. “He asked me the day Fayth released me from the hospital. He didn’t want me to think he had changed his mind because we lost the baby.” She looked happy and relaxed. “And oh my goodness, his parents are going to be here in a few days. I’m so nervous.”

“I’m glad,” Mika said with a wide smile. “You’ll be fine, I’m sure of it. They’ll love you.”

“It’s so funny. His dad knows sign language. His mother doesn’t, and she doesn’t know his father does. She has no clue. She’s worried about learning it. I told her she didn’t have to do that.”

Mika grinned, “It’s so interesting though! I’ve studied it, some, and I think it’s a great thing to learn.”

She grinned at herself, it wasn’t like her to be nervous. “But what about you? Have you finally gotten settled in? How is your department?”

Hannah

“The department is running more smoothly, but there’s still more patients than providers. I’ve set up a waitlist system to try and handle it.” Mika sighed softly and shrugged. “I’m doing okay. Sharah helped me start a garden.”

Hannah smiled, “I’m glad! You love your garden. I can’t imagine you being anywhere without one. You’ll have to show me some time.”

Mika hesitated a moment, then smiled. “I do love them, I really do.” She nodded then, “I will, once everything is a little more.... grown in. Unless you want to see a bunch of seedlings.”
