For a moment Eela tore her eyes away from the canar and Karilan, and looked over the bedroom that was so different than any one she had had in her life this far.
Only a few people, like Karilan, had seen her bedroom and most might have been surprised to see how different it was from the rest of her penthouse. Like everywhere else, it was filled with soft colours and a multitude of textures, and there were the same floor to ceiling windows in places, but that’s where the similarities ended. From the ceiling were swaths of cloth in shades of dark and pale blue. They dropped the visible ceiling creating a cozier space. Her bed was large and had a thick duvet and different soft blankets. The furniture was all a darker wood and was more ornately carved than anything else in her home. While the windows were also able to be tinted, she had actual drapes with a white, green and blue floral pattern framing them. They overlooked a corner of her patio garden that most people didn’t see and in the daylight was filled with blooming flowers she had planned out carefully to provide a constant succession of colour.
The hard floors were covered in plush rugs in similar colours and laid out so her strides never struck something harshly. In the corner nestled amongst the windows was a plush chaise lounge in a midnight blue with pillows and another blanket where she could relax and read. Beside that was a console table where the canar rested in its blue velvet bag.
There was a door to a large walk-in closet opposite the bed, and another door next to it that led to a luxurious bathroom with a separate large tub and walk-in shower.
Eela nodded, as much to herself as to Karilan, and moved over to the canar, the object even now she felt somehow betrayed by. “The brain of many humanoids is geared towards a negativity bias, because paying attention to the bad things can keep us safe. So then, to counter the bad experiences we need several positive ones for each negative one. The more intense a negative experiences, the more powerful the positive ones need to be to counter it and bring us back into balance.” She turned and smirked slightly. “I might not have been a practicing therapist for a rather long time but it’s funny how easily it all comes back to me.”
She inhaled deeply and let it out, her shoulders relaxing. “What you say makes sense on many levels. My unease with the canar, and with the accidental trauma it facilitated, can only be countered by many positive experiences with it.” Eela reached up and rubbed her eyes. “It’s something to consider when I’m ready. The connection the canar creates is…” A brief but blissful expression passed over her face, as a thread of remember joy swept through her body. “It’s so hard to describe. And while it’s most often used in moments of intimacy, it’s not required. But for me, it’s been the predominant way I wove its use into my life.” She looked back at it briefly. “But even now I think that had a lot to do with the fact that Cory was not comfortable with it, and so I saved it for others who were. It was never a whim, and always a joy.”
Shaking her head, she moved over to the right bedside table and picked up a hypo that rested there next to a PADD. She changed the pre-set dosage from pain relief ot sleep and pressed it to her neck, the hiss telling her she now had fifteen minutes before she started to feel the effects. She picked up the PADD and began tapping. “I log all my medication usage. I’ve had to since my accident. There’s been so much of it and I had terrible memory problems even after I was released with from the hospital. It was as much a protection for me as it was a way for others to monitor for issues.” A simple sentence with layers of meaning. Yes, she was saying a lot, but as best Eela could understand right now, this was her way of letting Karilan into her world more. If they were going to be so deeply entrenched in her everyday life, especially here in her own home, then she wanted them to understand not only what they were getting themselves into, but what Eela dealt with that sometimes she just kept to herself or didn’t think it something most people would be interested in.

Karilan nodded and said “That is good idea, and thank you for letting me know. Now do you want some time to yourself, or do you want me to sleep in here with you? I can be right down the hall if you need some time to decompress.”
Karilan
Indecision swept through her and Eela was conflicted, but it had nothing to do with Karilan. She was fighting an internal script that was getting louder the longer the day wore on and the more tired she was, the harder it was to fight. She took two deep breaths, holding each briefly before slowly releasing them. “Stay,” she whispered as the fear became more apparent to even herself. She didn’t want to wake up alone and terrified. Karilan’s presence would be reassuring and much like earlier today she was likely to be more at ease in her sleep, even if she was sedated. “The muscle relaxant will make me pretty drowsy in about another ten minutes, so I have time enough to get ready for bed, but not much else.” There would be no ‘decompressing’. “And I like the idea of you being here.” It wasn’t so much about that fact surprising her, but that earlier was easy to deem a one-off out of an extreme situation. Her health crisis meant being alone was not an option and Karilan’s presence had been a welcome one. She had felt safe with them beside her. Now? Now it was a conscious choice. A tiny smile tugged at her mouth. If the earlier Karilan and Eela from Karilan’s clothing adventures at their apartment could only see this moment now, they might just laugh a little. Had it been inevitable? Eela didn’t know but she wasn’t second-guessing her current inclination.

Karilan blushed slightly and said “Well, if you like the idea then so be it. Now…” and they walked around to Eela and took the PaDD frm her hands and set it on the bedside table, “… go get ready. I’ll go get some things and be right back.” They leaned forward and took Eela in their arms and gave her a tight hug before letting go and walking out of the room.
Karilan
She stood there a moment, feeling loved and letting that sensation settle in her fully. She grabbed a simple pair of stretchy bottoms and a lace edged tank from the drawers in her walk-in closet before she headed to the bathroom to ready herself for sleep.
Eela emerged a few minutes later sans brace and padded over to her bed, her body feeling stiffer by the minute. There was a noticeably thinner pillow on the right side, and that was by design. She could feel the sedative starting to kick in and so she simply crawled into bed and turned on her stomach, her arms folded above her head on the pillow. With the pressure off her back, she sighed in relief.

Karilan reappeared not long after wearing a pair of soft thigh-length shorts and a short red t-shirt that read Writing Is Important But Engineering Is Importanter in white letters. Here she climbed into bed next to Eela and laid on her side and looked at her. “How are you feeling? Need anything before you fall asleep?”
Karilan
Hazel eyes took in Karilan with a pensive gaze. “Drowsy and sore. I normally sleep on my front because it give my back a break, but I don’t know how much that will help tonight. I’m glad for the muscle relaxant for more than just knocking me out.”
Eela reached out and brushed the back of her fingers across Karilan’s cheek, avoiding a telepathic connection and just expressing affection and gratitude. “I think given everything, I have more than I expected right now.”
~Eela Dasca, Lt. Gov.
Karilan tilted her head into Eela’s fingers slightly. “Nothing you haven’t had before all of this.” She turned her head and kissed Eela’s fingers. “Now sleep. Relax. And know that when you wake up, I will still be here.” She hesitated a moment, then leaned forward and kissed Eela swiftly and gently. “Goodnight.” she said and laid her head on the pillow facing Eela.
Karilan
Eela smiled softly and nodded even as she felt her eye lid growing heavy. “I don’t eat before physio when I have it first thing. Too hard on my stomach. I don’t know how long the sedative will last, but if I sleep longer, wake me by 0530 so I can wake up properly and have a bit of coffee first?”
Her body felt heavy and quite happy to let this day be finally over, Eela drifted quickly off to sleep.

Karilan watched her fall asleep and then put an arm gently over her and fell asleep next to her.
Early the next morning…
Karilan awoke at 0500 out of habit, and was momentarily disoriented until her conscious mind remembered where she was. She looked at Eela and smiled, brushed a strand of hair from her face, and then slid out of bed. She moved down the hall, got dressed, and then they went to the kitchen and made coffee. Once brewed, they checked the clock and walked into Eela’s bedroom. They set the coffee on the bedside table and then sat down on the edge of the bed next to Eela. “Eela… darling it is time to wake up. Go slow… but I made coffee.”
Karilan
A voice floated over her mind drawing her closer to… something. Eela blinked her eyes open and saw no one there but she instantly felt Karilan’s presence and turned her head. She smiled through her groggy haze. “I hope you did say coffee. I could use a lot of coffee today.”
In a motion she had perfected since the recovery from her accident, Eela planted her hands firmly on the bed and pushed herself slowly upwards, carefully not to bend her back. Thank goodness for her continued physical training! She pulled her knees up underneath her and then sat up carefully, letting her head equalize as it found itself upright. She blew out a breath with a grunt of pain and turned herself into a sitting position. “There are slightly easier way to get up, but it usually involves some sort of carefully roll out of bed,” she said with a smirk as she settled the other pillow behind her back.
“How did you sleep?” Eela asked, reaching for the coffee and taking a grateful sip.
~Eela Dasca, Lt. Gov.
“Not bad, surprisingly.” Karilan said. “A little disoriented when I woke up, so I suppose I was really asleep.” and they smiled. “How about you? Did you sleep alright?”
