Once everyone had cleared the equipment and such form his home and left him alone, Hyrushi visibly shrunk. It had been a long day. An extremely difficult one.... and there was one more task to perform before he could call it over. He sat in a chair on the rooftop patio that looked into the garden and lifted up a PaDD. He activated the communications and placed a subspace call to one Jourin Dasca-Fletcher; son to Lieutenant Governor Eela Dasca. As the request made it’s way through subspace, Kenzo looked out over the garden and felt the dry Oed wind blow across him.

Hyrushi, Governor

Someone decidedly not Jourin appeared, smiled and held up a finger. Deep brown eyes gazed back at Kenzo, set in a face with a smooth forehead and deep brown skin. Medium short black curls accentuated their teardrop face and there was no doubt that this must be Jourin’s partner listed on the flight plan as Sibusiso Adegoke. “One moment, please,” Sibu said with a thick rolling accent. If they were surprised that it wasn’t Caridee or someone else familiar, they didn’t show it.

Like his sister, Jourin was a blend of both his parents though he bore a closer resemblance to his father, save for one feature: his eyes. Though slightly darker in shade, his hazel eyes were expressive just like Eela’s. They too were often the first place any hint of emotion would surface in his features. Confusion swept across his face. “Hello? I’m sorry, I saw the call was from Oed and I thought it was my sister.”

~Jourin Dasca-Fletcher

Hyrushi inclined his head and said “My apologies, but no. Although I have had the honor of making your sister’s acquaintance recently. My name is Kenzo B’tren-Hyrushi. I am a friend of your mother’s. And I wish to speak to you… privately… concerning some recent events involving her.” He held up a hand. “She is well, but there have been some… ‘circumstances’… that I wish to discuss with you prior to your arrival.”

Hyrushi

Jourin was not entirely out of the loop. He did know who the Governor was, but he took the cue from the man’s introduction for how this conversation would be framed. Concern touched his eyes as Hyrushi spoke of recent events. Did he mean his father? “Of course,” Jourin said. “You have my undivided attention.”

~Jourin Dasca-Fletcher

Hyrushi waited a moment and then said “I am sorry, but some of what I wish to discuss with you is… while not necessarily classified… is to be considered ‘privaleged’ information. Please ensure that you are alone before we continue.”

Hyrushi

Jourin turned to his partner and then there was a small nod as Sibu moved to the sleeping area of the runabout. While it was highly unusual, Jourin was the child of a Starfleet officer and protocols didn’t bother him. “We’re alone.”

~Jourin

Hyrushi nodded once and said “Thank you. First, I want to be clear that I am not calling to dictate to you, Mr. Dasca-Fletcher. Nor am I trying to discourage you from your trip. My purpose in contacting you is to give you information regarding your mother… and make recommendations on what do with that information. Captain Dasca is both my colleague and my friend; and recent events- some of which you ko doubt are aware of- have put her in difficult circumstances… both personally and professionally. And I know that your relationship with your mother has had… difficulties… in the past. I do not want to leave any opportunity for miscommunication between the two of you. Is that acceptable to you?”

Hyrushi

Jourin nodded. “I’m not gong to pretend that everything will be easy for us, but I assure you Governor that I am looking forward to seeing her. If Caridee did not think it a good idea, she would never have suggested it. I want to be there to celebrate a holiday that used to be very important to my family and that I know is important to her. And if we get to clear the air and rebuild some of the ground that we lost at some point, then so much the better.”

~Eela Dasca, Lt. Gov.

Hyrushi said “And that is the crux of my disregard to contact you. I am sure you are well aware of the events that transpired between your parents. I am also certain that those events have caused no small amount of difficulties within your own family dynamics. But that is not all that has transpired.” Hyrushi stared at Jourin for a moment and then said “Are you familiar with your mother’s extrasensory abilities and something called a ‘canar’?”

Hyrushi

Jourin nodded, his curiosity piqued. “Of course. The canar is very important to many Haliians. While my sister and I are limited to mostly empathic abilities, my mother’s touch telepathy was an important part of how she raised us.”

~Jourin

“She was joined with someone through the canar and a few hours later they were murdered.” Hyrushi said flatly. “Your mother experienced it via that connection. She is fine now… but there was a period of time where she was not. That loss, coupled with the actions of your father, have left her very exposed on many levels.” He regarded Jourin for a long moment.

Shock flooded his face. At best all he could do right now was gave a tiny nod of understanding. He had so many questions, but none of them would come out clearly right now.

“I do not know what transpired between you and your mother, Mr. Dasca-Fletcher. And that is between you and her. What I want to make very clear is that she is vulnerable right now. I want you to keep that in mind when you deal with her.” Hyrushi leaned forward slightly. “I told your sister that I do not consider you an enemy, and that is true. I do not know you yet, but I hope to meet you upon your arrival. I also do not know anything about your relationship with your father. That being said… I do not give your father the same grace as I extend to you. So I am asking you, Mr. Dasca-Fletcher, that if you are planning on acting as an envoy of sorts from him or a defender of him; do not. Leave any such notions at the spaceport upon your arrival. ” He leaned back. “And please do not take this as me singling you out. I am holding your sister to same standard.”

Hyrushi

He held up his hands and shook his head. “My father has nothing to do with me taking this trip, nor is there any defence for what he did.” Jourin blew out a breath and lowered his hands, gazing at Kenzo intently, in a look that was very much Eela deep in thought.

“A lot had happened since my mother left Earth, things that were in play before she left but that I was not in a position to talk to her about.” A tiny smile touched his face. “You know, it’s funny in all my life I never really knew Eela the Therapist. I’m sure if I had let her, my mother would have had some insightful wisdom to share about things of late. That, Sir, is a large part of why I am travelling to Oed. Because while Dee was shocked about my father’s actions there, I was… less so. And that’s only because I’ve been going through my own process of discovery that allowed me to see things from different perspectives I was not able to when my father controlled the narrative. What I understand now is that there is so much about my mother I don’t know, that I missed or was blocked from. I do know she is a multi-faceted and complicated person with so much compassion and love. And I miss her, Governor. I miss the woman I got to glimpse now and again, someone who got overshadowed by her accident and all the other difficult things going on. And yes, that includes my father. I’m not going to lie and say I understand it all, I don’t. Nor have I cut him out of my life- he’s still my father. But with the help of my therapist and my partner, I have done a lot of hard looking at my life and I can see his manipulation. I’m hoping that this trip will help bring clarity to the parts of my life that I have a very cloudy view of.” He tightened his jaw. “I know I’ve hurt her with my distance and I promise I’m not out to hurt her anymore. I also know that there are things she and I have to deal with in order to find some common ground again. I can only hope she is willing. But if she isn’t ready right now because of everything else that has happened? That’s okay too. I will just enjoy Batarael with my family and at a later point the rest will come.”

~Jourin

Hyrushi nodded once. “I appreciate your candor, Mr. Dasca-Fletcher. And I will trust that what you say is the truth. Your mother misses you. Very much so. There is much regret in her voice when she speaks of you. But much pride, as well. I am sure that your visit will yield positive steps towards rebuilding what both of you need.” He regarded the man that reminded him so much of his friend. “She is unaware of your coming. Your sister and I discussed the necessity of informing her… to mitigate the shock after all of the recent events. I recommended that she do not. I believe the surprise of your presence will do her a great deal of good. Are you still on schedule?”

Hyrushi

She missed him too. A part of Jourin knew that but to hear it lifted his mood a bit. “Yes. We are due into the system in eight days. There are reports of a small ion storm along our original route but I’ve already adjusted our course to avoid it and we’ll increase speed to make up the difference. If needed, we have buffer room and I can have us arrive sooner, but up to two days. But I’ll trust your judgement whether that is a good idea or not. I know Dee would say yes, but that’s because she’s eager to have the family together again,” he said with a lopsided smirk. “And if there is one thing I know for sure, it’s that she got her persistence and determination from our mother. I’ve learned to go with it.”

~Jourin

Hyrushi looked away for a moment and then looked back. “Make the adjustments. Earlier will be better, I think. And your presence will, I hope, bring some much needed positivity to Captain Dasca.” He exhaled and then said “I appreciate your time, Mr. Dasca-Fletcher. And my apologies for interrupting time with your partner. I look forward to meeting them as well. Please do travel safe.”

Hyrushi, Governor

Jourin smiled softly and was quiet for several moments. “No apologies necessary. I’m glad you called, and I’m glad you told me what’s happened. It will help me frame us seeing each other again better. And I really do hope my arrival is a good thing. As I said, I’ve no wish to cause her pain. I just look forward to getting to know the real Eela Dasca.” At that he broke into a grin. “I’ll see you soon.” He gave a brisk nod and ended the call.
