Federation Embassy - Just a quick Courtesy

Posted by Civilian Revna Freya McKenzie (Resident) in Federation Embassy - Just a quick Courtesy
Even with all the work Seamus and Ragna had put in, there was still no end of things that had to be done, just to be ready for the colony ship to arrive. Not all of it had to do with temporary housing and foundational essentials. Some had to do with the presence of the McKenzie-Edmans and the people of note among them. So as soon as Revna had the chance to do so, she officially scheduled time and made her way to the Federation Embassy to introduce herself to Ambassador Mathis.

Revna was retired and had no intention of going back to work, but she still held the rank of Junior Ambassador, and it would be most rude to not at least introduce herself to the resident dignitaries. Knowing how busy the Ambassador likely was with the current political happenings, Revna had made sure to schedule her visit.

She approached the building, that looked like it was still having work done and presented her credentials to the guards at the door. “Ambassador McKenzie, welcome. Please have a seat and we’ll let Ambassador Mathis know you are here.”

“Thank you, and please let the Ambassador know if she needs to reschedule I am happy to do so.” Revna moved over to a chair and took a seat while the guard relayed her arrival.

Revna, Lady McKenzie

It was simply a matter of fact that Jean would rather be anywhere else but here at the embassy, this the day after Dash was so cruelly taken from all of them. As she sat in her new office though, she couldn’t tell you where else she should be. The townhouse was filled with grief and her son stormed about expressing an anger the rest of them kept in. She envied him right now.

Mathis sat at her large pale wood desk, heavy but simple in design. Her chair was ergonomic and designed for her body, having spent too many year prior sitting in terrible chairs and refusing to hurt her body any more. The decor was light, making use of the expanse of multi-paned that could be tinted at will for privacy or to block the sun. But there were panels of light blue floral fabric hung between each tall window, softening the hard lines of the window frames. Behind her were a series of light wood shelves with books and a few objects from her travels, each with a story of an assignment or mission she had served on. It was a small clue of her longstanding legacy with the Federation, whose flag stood proud in the corner along with Oed’s.

Her office was much like this former residence, an attempt to pare down the ostentatiousness of its former Treasury owner. They had left some of the touches, like the carved pillars and the decorative mouldings, but she had insisted they make it more neutral and inviting. This main floor of the Embassy was host to offices (hers, Dash’s, Security, and those of future staffers), service areas, and held a large ballroom perfect for hosting events. There were a series of other rooms converted into meeting spaces, some of which were already adjusted to accommodate their Vren guests for the impending first formal meetings. She had spent a long time thinking about this embassy and what it needed to be for Oed. So wherever they could they had brought in Oedvian touches, right done to the art work on walls and the textiles that covered surfaces. Soft colours and textures, warm and inviting. It was a place of business, but it was a place of welcome.

The upper level held more meeting rooms and possible accommodations for visiting dignitaries. A whole wing had been sectioned off under the most stringent security processes that would soon be her and her family’s new home. Dash was supposed to have his own suite here too. She supposed it would just sit empty for now.

She tried not to let her thoughts constantly drift back to the man she deemed family, but it was an impossible feat and she failed constantly. It certainly didn’t help that until the investigation had proceeded enough to have combed through all the digital evidence, his files were all off limits and therein lay one rather large problem she would have to address sooner rather than later: she had a job to do.

Without Dash to coordinate everything, intercede on communications that didn’t require her immediate input, and liaise with the colonial government, it was all on her. She had no staff yet (interviews were on the docket this week) and if the situation were not so dire, she might just laugh. Jeannette looked out the expanse of windows that overlooked the gardens that the former owner had put in that she rather enjoyed. They gave her a nice view.

Her reverie was interrupted by the announcement that she had a guest. Wait, an ambassador? Jean searched her memory, but unfortunately sleep had been elusive after the first few hours and she was running on less than optimal energy right now. She jumped into her computer and sure enough on the schedule was an appointment Dash had arranged. A simple diplomatic meet and greet- a courtesy for them both. She could do that, couldn’t she? If nothing else it would provide her a respite from her worries and the preparation for tomorrow’s meeting with Ambassador Kek that honestly she as looking forward to, but now felt ill-prepared for. She needed Dash.

Pushing herself to her feet, she moved around the desk. “Please show the Ambassador in.”

Jean at least was dressed for work, in her favoured pale blue suit. The open jack showed a navy blouse, and other than that the only other notable accessory was the blank stretchy band on her left arm. Her blond hair was pulled back in a tidy tail, unfortunately removing any barrier to the exhaustion on her face.
